08/28/2004 - Brewers (Sheets) at Phillies (Wolf)

I'm very concerned about Big Ben's velocity. He's throwing 85-88mph fastballs, or about 8mph less than he typically does. There is always some variation in radar guns and velocity from start to start, but this is a pretty serious (and consistent) drop-off. He's pitching well, but something isn't right.

Call me a worry wart if you want, but I don't like this at all.

I think something is wrong with Ben, too. Just my opinion. Great to see some runs, I'm glad Moeller, Podsednik and Overbay have an RBI or two.

as I said on the first page of this thread, Ben threw his first 75 mph curve of the year. That tells me that it's the gun. I don't think I've seen him below his 82-84 mph range all season until tonight

I'd like to know if there's a place that keeps track of exactly how many unearned runs a specific fielder is accountable for, because it seems like every time Wes makes an error, the guy invariably comes around to score.

And now Ben allowed another hit, and it's 3-2.

REALLY nice to see Sheets shake off Moeller when he called for that stupid HIGH FASTBALL against Jim Thome. And then strike him out with a big curveball.

The Wes Helms Futility Watch:

15 errors (14 at 3B), 13 extra-base hits.

Nicely done, Mr. $4.5 million.

RoCo, what concerns me is that everyone is taking Ben's curve in the 2nd half. He simply cannot throw it for strikes, so if they pick it up they are expecting it to be a ball. The high fastball has been his best strikeout pitch prior to this year. Just shows that he's had command of his curve for half a season, and it's been dominant, whereas the rest of his career it has been nothing special

What was Jenkins thinking????

Though there was no doubt Philly was going to tie it up after the Brewers FUBAR'ed the top of the 7th

If this game is a loss it's the type of loss only teams in double digit losing streaks have.

Double!!! the scorer has to be on crack..

What was Jenkins thinking there? If you're not sure, you let it drop and keep that run from scoring. Now it's tied.

Our defense just continues to suck and suck and suck some more in this 2nd half.

not sure what was up with Jenkins...why dive/tumble since it almost hit him in the chest? It's not like it fell infront of him. Must have lost it in the lights

The game was lost in the top of the 7th when we had runners at 2nd and third with one out and we failed to score a run.

I don't know if we'll win another game this season. We're 55-72, last year's team has caught us, and we very well could finish the season 0-35. Remember a couple of seasons ago when the A's went on a 26-game win streak? The same thing could happen here.

wait, the bullpen can't be faulted when 2 runs should be charged to Helms and 1 to Jenkins. should have been 3-1, if not more like 5-1

I'd hang this loss on our defense, over our bullpen. Jabba the Helms had his nightly error that cost us 2 runs and Jenkins made a poor play later in the game that cost us another run.

Mike Adams should never have been in the position to give up the dinger.

Adams still gave up the home run, though... he shouldn't escape blame.

It was yet another team loss, essentially, with everyone doing the little things to help the team lose.

Bad yuck boo.

Why does Mike Adams and Pedro look like they have been on a diet constructed by a North Korean? Is there any food in Indy or does all of it go to Prince and Huntsville?
