Brewers Narrowing Down List of Potential Managers

MLB Network reports Don Mattingly on the short list of potential new Brewer managers. 

Doesnt make sense how they can do this? Joe is a FA just like Counsell was.

Espada is a candidate for both jobs. The oddity here is that, as The Athletic’s Chandler Rome reports, Espada’s contract with the Astros expired on Oct. 31, allowing him to do whatever he’d like. Yet GM Dana Brown still said Tuesday that the Brewers were being denied permission to interview in Milwaukee.

I mean can they legally do that? With FO executives I thought you couldn't prevent them from interviewing for positions that would be promotions. I believe that was the whole reason we changed Stearns position from GM to POBO so the Mets/others couldn't interview him for POBO roles. Does that rule not apply for coaching staff members?

i am sorry but if he has no Contract they really can't stop him. I getting a feeling it might be Donny if he willing to come cheap.

He may be far down on their list (I hope he is). This might simply be a case of a national network getting the shakes if they DON'T feature a name that played in NY & was coaching in the AL East.

Of the former managers floating around, I'd be more interested in Kapler than Donny Ballgame.

Brewers notoriously are zipper lipped about everything.  We will probably will be 100% surprised again, I just hope it will be a good one this time.  Getting a 1/2 dozed nobodies for Josh Hader is at the top of the list. 

Those 1/2 dozed nobodies got us William Contreras. Maybe Arnold knows what he's doing?

But the initial part for Hader, the Brewers acquired reliever Taylor Rogers, righty Dinelson Lamet (whom they immediately designated for assignment) and two prospects, outfielder Esteury Ruiz and left-hander Robert Gasser. 

None of those guys are or were nobodies.

I should have said so far because 2 are with Nashville Sounds and doing well.

Taylor Rogers 5.48 ERA. with Brewers ... Average, I actually liked him very much at first.

Estury Ruiez Looks awesome in AAA so no comment yet

Robert Gasser also looks very promising in AAA
