  1. This is complete....
  2. Updates to this page: www.brewerfan.net/ViewAcq...ain.action From a historical point of view, until I get more of the old traded players entered into the database, this is as far back as I can go with the transaction tree. I'll add more data and tweak the layout a bit when I have more time, but the base structure and most of the data is there now.
  3. Here's a preliminary version of this feature: www.brewerfan.net/ViewAcq...ain.action I still need to do the database work to wire acquisitions together to form the chain.
  4. This feature is now complete: www.brewerfan.net/ViewOrg...ats.action
  5. No need to bump, it's already on my to-do list. See the above pinned thread.
  6. Brewerfan's Toby Harrmann has decided to step down as Minor League Guru, as increased responsibilties in his school, work, and outside interest life have left him very little time to commit himself to the site as he used to. For those of you who are newer, Toby joined up with Brewerfan.net within days of its inception (along with Colbyjack), and his Power 50 helped put Brewerfan.net on the map, so to speak. He has contributed many quality articles, interviews, and discussion pieces since June of 2001. He's reported for the site from spring training, and has done radio interviews for the site on several occasions. He's been a reliable member of the staff, and Brewerfan.net would not be where it is today without his contributions. Toby's hoping to stay on in a "part-time" role, hopefully doing monthly Power 50's. In the wake of this news, I've gone ahead and re-organized our current resources to hopefully make a seamless transition: Brian Kapellusch - President / Director of Site Operations Patrick Ebert - Graphic Artist / Director of Amateur Baseball Operations Jim Goulart - Director of Research Bill Batterman - Director of Major League Operations Michael Clifton - Director of Minor League Operations Toby Harrmann - Power 50 Editor Todd Troha - Photographer Michael will be basically stepping into Toby's role (minus the power 50) and hopes to start cranking out articles on a regular basis. Again, thank you Toby, for all your hard work.
  7. This is something we can look at implementing, sure. It's actually easier for them to do it, because it's all static text. Brewerfan.net is database driven, so i'd have to build something onto the site to get the information and and out. It shouldn't be THAT hard tho.
  8. If you go to \Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins (or wherever you may have it installed), you can delete the plugins (there are two files normally for each plugin, a .src file and a .png file). When you close down firefox and re-open it, the plugins will be deleted.
  9. The Brewerfan.net search plugin has been added.... I will be updating the search functionality going forward so more parts of the site are indexed.
  10. Currently, firefox makes up 7.28% of our hits.
  11. Search functionality now available at: www.brewerfan.net/ViewSearch.do It currently only indexes players and articles, but soon i'll have it index daily brews and much of the rest of the content on the site. The Mozilla search plugin should be forthcoming tonight or tomorrow....
  12. That's correct, it's being hosted by the same service (unfortunately). I've got an email out to the guy who runs the site (imagelink.org) to see if the site's just down temporarily, or if he just took everyone's money and ran.
  13. As far as the header images, it would seem that the company that hosts my images on the message forums has either been down for a couple of days or has completely vanished. I can't tell. That would explain why you're only seeing images in non-forum pages, and why the page may never think it's done loading. That doesn't explain why only 1/2 of people's pictures under their name show up. Some people's images perhaps may be broken links, but I don't think it would be as high as half of them.
  14. Not yet, but I can add it to my to-do list. That shouldn't be too hard for me to create. EDIT: ..but in the meantime, you could use the leaderboard page (under Brewerfan.net features) and jack up the number of players shown option.
  15. That's really clever, Bill. I'll go ahead and add the "i'm feeling lucky" version to our plugins page here.
  16. I would have done them for Baseball Cube and Waymore Sports, but there are limitations as to which engines you can integrate (sites that only allow POSTs, not GETs to retrieve search results).
  17. A new page is available which will allow you to install different search plugins for the Firefox and Netscape browsers: www.brewerfan.net/ViewSearchPlugins.do These plugins will show up as new options in your search box dropdown. For those who are interested but are currently using Internet Explorer as your browser, why not give firefox a try?: www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
  18. [ 1. When I search the forums, I run into a situation with white text on a white background. I know the text is there because it appears when I select it. Is there a CSS issue with the search results? I know it isn't a matter of reloading the page or clearing my cache; this has gone on for a while. I'm getting the same effect in three different browsers (Firefox, Safari, and IE?all Mac). ] I'll look into it.... Although i'm really displeased with ezBoards's search functionality in the first place. The results it produces seem inconsistent to me. [ 2. Is there a means to search the articles, transactions, etc. on the Brewerfan.net portion of this site? I thought there used to be one but I'm not finding one now. Maybe I'm just crazy or blind? ] There used to be a search box on the site, but in never really functioned properly. Maybe i'll add that back to my to-do list, as I don't think it'll be THAT hard to implement. [ 3. Have you ever considered writing Firefox/Mozilla plug-ins to search this site? It'd be really cool to see Brewerfan.net drop down from the search box, one for the forums and one for the rest of the site. ] Wow, looking at those two source files (if that's all there is to it), it does look pretty easy. I'll add that to my to-do list as well....
  19. [ "Home" is a crime ridden dump...time to move on. ] To many people, family and extended family is more important than escaping crime.
  20. Hey, if you sign up for article updates, and I feel compelled to write countless articles about Khalid Ballouli, you have no one to blame but yourself. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. [ This looks very good and to the point. Are first and last names shared anywhere on the site? Can we opt in and out of that via the profile? ] The only place first names and last names are shared on the site are when people submit articles, since we tie a user account to an article. Other than that, the only person who can see names is me.
  22. I've added a privacy policy to the "create user" screen. It's very short, but to the point. Basically, it says you will NEVER receive email from Brewerfan.net unless you opt in. Yeah, you can definately do the RSS thing with Firefox, but that entails you looking at a subfolder in your bookmarks directory and see what's updated. I use Mozilla's mail client called "Thunderbird", which allows you to monitor RSS Feeds. It goes to those feeds at specified intervals and notifies you as to what's new. It's pretty sweet, as it eliminates me having to go to different sites to see what's new, and is active so that it shows me a list of folders and tells me how many articles are "unread", just like most email clients do with email.
  23. [ 1. Is there a privacy policy posted? Actually, this would be a site that would be among the least of my concerns, but it's always nice to see one. ] Can you give me an example of one? I'd surely put one on there, so no one gets scared off. [ 2. What does this offer in comparison to your RSS feature? Is the RSS feature still around? Right now, I'm not seeing the RSS thinger down in the corner of my Firefox browser. ] If you go to the home page, the RSS feature should appear in firefox. I think it must have gotten removed from the EZBoard pages. I'll put it back there.... The email notifications will also notify people of transactions, which we aren't doing through RSS. We'll also be sending out newsletters every now and then which will only be available via email. Also, many people don't know what RSS even is, or how they would go about setting up an easy way to receive feeds.... not to mention the fact that many companies either completely block port 80 (the web port) or perhaps web access to Brewerfan.net. It's an easier way to push content via email than to have users pull content via RSS... not to mention, it's less demanding on the server.
  24. You may notice if you're on the home page (or any other non-message board page), a "login" link exists in the maroon nav bar (or a "logout" link, if you are logged into the non-message board portion of Brewerfan.net). Up until now, the Brewerfan.net site accounts had pretty much no use, as we didn't have any features that required personalization. We are now pleased to offer the ability to email you upon new content being updated on the site, including: - Articles - News - Daily Brews - Power 50s - General Site Updates - Transactions (which can be filtered by the team(s) in the Brewers organization which you care about) If you've created a Brewerfan.net site account in the past but don't remember your user name or password, there are now facilities to retrieve them which are available from the login screen. Once you're logged in, click on the "profile" link in the maroon nav bar. You can edit which email notifications you'd like to receive there. The "profile", "login", and "logout" links will show only on non-message board pages. IMPORTANT: Your ezBoard message board account login is a _different_ login from the Brewerfan.net site accounts which are stored in the Brewerfan.net database. Since our message boards are hosted by a completely different service on a completely different site, this is unfortunately the case. In the future we hope to add new features which utilize personalization such as this. Hopefully, those of you who can't browse at work but can receive email can benefit from this new feature.
  25. [ Teams do not have to trade anyone to claim a player who is DFA'd. ] If they think someone else is planning on trading for him or has a better waiver position than them, they do.
