The forums are doing OK, but they're housed on some monster servers at EZBoard that are meant to handle large traffic. The "main" site died a few times yesterday. I'm trying to figure out what the bottleneck is that kills it when traffic is high. EDIT: I'm thinking the bottleneck has to do with the images contained in the forums. Each time an image is requested (usually if someone hits a page for the first time or a user hits refresh), a hit is made at the "main" site. Each image on this page (all of the team names and their corresponding reollover images, the header image, the advertisement image, the support and fansite alliance images) count as a hit. If you get enough people refreshing on a busy day, KABOOM. I'm using an image hosting service's trial membership to host just the top brewerfan.net image (the image with miller park, and the mascot in it). In less than a month, it has been request some 50,000 times, for about 698MB of bandwidth. I cap out there at 1000MB of bandwidth for free, so i'm thinking about paying for an upgrade. The less requests that get made from the "main" site, the snappier performance will be all around.
