  1. And this is fine for me, but as others mentioned earlier, there are several 'ifs' in these scenarios. As much as Carlos seems to enjoy Milwaukee, it might be too many ifs for him - and for the Brewers, for that matter. We'll see. At this point, I don't want to see anyone take at-bats from Broxton until the club is ready to move him or keep him, whenever that might be.
  2. There have to be other rebuilding clubs, or perhaps a contending club, that can allow Gomez a chance to just play and not press to show results and hopefully he figures it out. I'm glad he's got that connection with Milwaukee, but at this point, we've already got a guy on our roster who is figuring it out and is cheaper. Next season, if our regulars get injured, we've already got a few guys who are maybe tweeners, who can be backups and do it on the cheap. *Edit - and I know, the Brewers payroll will already be low, so we could likely afford a cheap flier on Gomez. I don't like the cost of paying him and the cost of putting someone like Broxton on the bench, when a flip of either one could result in a similar player - or in Broxton's case, possibly a better one.
  3. Sounds like Perez has just missed two homeruns tonight? That stinks.
  4. Just listening tonight, sounds like Arcia has already made a nice play at short.
  5. You're not thinking of Doug Davis pitching to Chad Moeller, are you? I seem to remember Davis just taking forever, not to mention, he was a nibbler (again, as I remember - haven't looked up anything on him) so each at-bat would just drag on. Ugh. SHARPIE!
  6. As a rule 5 pickup, I feel like a back of the rotation starter, with perhaps more potential, is a good thing.
  7. Where do you see it that Carlos puts butts in the seats in Milwaukee? It can hurt the rebuild in the long run if we should be auditioning a younger, cheaper, controllable player to see if he can play CF for another season -- and we should be. Broxton likely has more potential value than Kirk and Flores.
  8. I don't think you quite understand the point that is being made. Winning is great, no one wants to lose and fans don't want to see losses. However, as presented, the Brewers are concerned more about rebuilding and evaluating talent throughout the organization: top to bottom. If they were more concerned with how many games they won this year, they would not have been so eager to trade Lucroy, and Jeffress, and Smith.
  9. I think you've covered exactly how I feel about the situation. Thanks for a good post.
  10. For the people talking about his batting stance, didn't you watch any of his videos from being in the minors? He's swung it the same way for a long time, no?
  11. Since the super 2 deadline has passed, how will this move eat more service time than his callup in September?
  12. Meh. But I'd feel better if we send more relievers elsewhere for more top 100 prospects.
  13. You'd better pour me a cup, too.
  14. I didn't see it, so yay! Although I wouldn't mind details. Well, first it was Daron Sutton, so there's your first indication of how over-the-top this was. But what I remember is the camera watching him walk through the tunnels, like up in his face with a bunch of people taking pictures. Meanwhile, Sutton is there saying how "here was our new slugger" and talking about it as if Mench was some sort of elite talent and the headliner to the deal. I get it, trying to drum-up some enthusiasm for a weary fan base, but it was really hard to watch and not have tons of snarky things going on in my head. I think some people were surprised when Kevin Mench turned out to be Kevin Mench.
  15. Are Mench, Nix and Cordero available? Mench walking through Miller Park was one of the most cringe-worthy moments on Brewers telecasts. It still makes me shake my head.
  16. The trade deadline is so great when you have players other teams want. It was exciting to hear what Cleveland was going to give up, now it's exciting to hear what Texas is giving up.
  17. This is unfortunate. I wasn't thrilled the Brewers didn't get an upside arm in the deal but liked the pieces they did get. I've got to think the deals will only get weaker now. Any leverage the Brewers might have had seems to be gone if it's a team on his NTC. Bummer.
  18. Huh. Interesting turn of events. Now what?!
  19. Just trying to keep things a bit more accurate around here.
  20. It's not where we thought it would be other than Hader. There are some nice players but there is no Braun and Fielder. The last 3 first round draft picks all look pretty bad. No, the system is not fine. I'm assuming this trade deadline will being back some real difference makers like other teams are doing. However, y'all here just loved Bruce Seid We did?! And yes, please; there are other threads where we can discuss whether or not our system is as good as we think it is. Every time I see updates in this thread I get antsy wondering if there is news or rumors on Lucroy.
  21. There usually are catchers to be had to help with a young pitching staff. If that were the Brewers' intentions, I'd rather they just keep Lucroy rather than deal him for d'Arnaud. If he's a big part of the return, I'd feel pretty disappointed that our best trade chip was spent acquiring a catcher who doesn't have much team control left.
  22. Thank you for sharing this! Not that I wasn't excited for the approaching deadline, but this restored a bit of that excitement.
  23. I'm not. This is what Dombrowski has always done. Use the farm system to upgrade the major league team. Your sarcasm meter is broken.
  24. I'd love to see a baseball documentary about the difficulties of raising a family as an MLB player. While no one will shed a tear because MLB players can take care of their family financially, it is certainly a difficult way of life to spent time of away from your very young children. Especially a first child, like Ryan's one-year old daughter. It very rarely causes players to walk away from the game, however. (especially players with fat contracts) Disney made the documentary already. It's titled: The Rookie. That movie had nothing to do with life on the road, away from family, as a big leaguer.
