  1. The Brewers didn't need a hit in that situation with Segura. A number of scenarios would have worked. If you're referring to the Astro bunting for a hit - I think just the fact that he WAS bunting for a hit is the point. BUT, it was in the 5th inning, too. Not like the 8th or 9th. It worked out for the Astros so, good play. I just don't like it.
  2. Yeah - I let out a few expletives over here. Wouldn't surprised to see that guy saying hello to an inside heater sometime in this series. Now it's a moot point because of the next batter.
  3. Don't worry. They'll say that wasn't a squeeze atempt and the Brewers are really 12-12 on attempts. In reality, RR should be managing a high school. In all honesty it's on Segura to not get a bunt down, but it should start being on RR for not letting his players play and do their job. This constant bunting garbage makes it seem as though he has no faith for his guys to get the job done. Not to mention, he manages himself out of the possibility of a big inning by all these bunts. I swear - runner on 3rd less than two outs with anyone but the 2-6 hitters and it's almost guaranteed to be a squeeze. We get it, RR, and it's not cute anymore.
  4. Ah, good possibility of that. I'd be curious to see the answer to that, as well.
  5. According to Cot's, Corey signed a three year extension prior to 2011. 2011: $6.5 mil 2012: $9 mil 2013: $10 mil I don't think I know how to do a hyperlink on this format. But here's the link, Nottso: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/?page_id=71 *Edit - oh, well.. looks like the site did it for me. Cool. Interesting site for sure (Cot's).
  6. (sigh) Once again, I'm not being dismissive of minor leaguers and the fact that they can produce (at a much cheaper rate) as veterans. What I was NOT in favor of was letting Gomez walk when he has some value and should be flipped for something.. anything. I'm willing to slack a bit on Gomez' OBP because he does other things so well. But, please, don't take that as I want the Brewers to sign Gomez long term. His hot week is likely just that.
  7. I get it, it's easier to dismiss every young MiLB player than try to analyze each guy individually. To each his own. I just prefer to not apply such a blanket policy. I said nothing of the sort. My point was that Schafer has no MLB experience. He could be better than Gomez, and I hope he is, but to Logan who said we should just get rid of Gomez (in favor of Schafer) because Gomez can't hit is about as silly as can be. Gomez hasn't exactly lighted the world on fire with his hitting, but he's certainly not someone that doesn't have some value. He can hit, but he'll never approach what his ceiling may or may not have been. In short, I don't like dumping MLB guys that still have some pretty decent value for a MiLB player that might be a fringe MLB guy. It isn't like Logan Schafer is the second coming of Ryan Braun (i.e. a sure thing). *Edit - Logan said "let him walk". Gomez is highly unlikely to be a net worthwhile compensation if he were to sign elsewhere via FA. If the Brewers were going to give the CF job to Schafer, I would hope they would at least try to get something out of Gomez from another club, or package him in with another player, etc.
  8. I'd like to make a suggestion to the entry music for any and all relievers from here on out: Yakety Sax.
  9. Letting Ax bat with a runner in scoring position really paid off for RR there. Easy to cherry pick but a head-scratcher anyway.
  10. Interesting. Because we've never seen someone hit or pitch well in the minors and come to MLB and fall flat on their face.
  11. And Schafer can? He's had all of 5 plate appearances in MLB..
  12. If I can take off the Brewer glasses and look at it as neutral as possible, it makes absolute sense for Greinke to test FA. Not just to get the most money - we don't know if that's what he wants - but just to be able to decide (between a couple of clubs) who he would prefer to play with. All of us would love to be able to do that in any job, but more importantly when you're deciding between 9 figure contracts.
  13. Misguided? Ha! He proposes the Brewers trade for a Zack Greinke every year and resign the Zack Greinke to a long-term deal. Trade for and sign a superstar every year, win the World Series every year. Misguided? He's living in a fantasy world. I was trying to keep it.. respectful.
  14. The Brewers won't because they can't. They didn't have any prospects left in the system that could likely net a player of Greinke's caliber if they were in position to do so. They're not going to overpay for their players "just to keep them in Milwaukee" when they can be traded for a nice return like we saw today. This team doesn't have the payroll of the Yankees, Angels, Red Sox, etc.. so when fans complain that we never sign our players I usually just scratch my head. We've resigned Braun, Hart, Weeks, Lucroy, Gallardo.. that's a good group of players. I really don't understand your gripe but you're entitled to your opinion. Just don't expect a lot of people around here to see your side of it because, frankly, I feel it's misguided.
  15. Your last two posts indicate someone who doesn't completely understand how a small market team needs to operate in order to prevent from a massive rebuild like what happened in the early 2000's.
  16. I know that is hypothetical and all with Konerko, but in no way would Chicago want to trade one of their biggest run producers in the heat of a playoff race. And I don't want a player that is about 7 years removed from his prime for our player that IS in his prime. No thank you.
  17. I really hope that DM doesn't settle for just 'a nice package'. Just because you get a lot of stuff doesn't mean that's a good thing - it's still just .. stuff.
  18. When your pitcher doesn't get removed for a PH and gets removed the following inning your know your manager has no faith in the team. True, Gallardo is a good hitter and the move worked, but really?
  19. This one made me chuckle. After losses like today, these in-game threads are ripe with great, sarcastic comments.
