  1. Nashville Game 1 Sounds Drop First Game of Twinbill Nashville's Sean Halton and Khris Davis Homer In 5-4 Loss Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/dIrVd1u.jpg Sean Halton, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) AUDIO: Stephen Parker's RBI Single AUDIO: Sean Halton's 2-Run HR DES MOINES, Iowa - Despite cracking two home runs Friday night, the Nashville Sounds were outslugged by the Iowa Cubs in game one of the clubs' doubleheader at Principal Park, losing the seven-inning contest, 5-4. After Sounds outfielder Khris Davis belted knotted the game in the fifth with his seventh home run of the year, the Cubs pulled back out to a one-run lead with their third homer of the game. Infielder Brad Nelson knocked a deep shot to right field off of reliever Jesus Sanchez (3-1). Sanchez took the loss, his first, allowing just one run on one hit over 1 1/3 innings. Reliever Greg Holle also saw work on the hill for Nashville and served up a scoreless sixth, allowing two hits. Offensively, the Cubs got on the board first when infielder Logan Watkins opened the game with a solo home run. It is the second game-opening home run the Sounds have allowed this season and second in June, having also suffered an opening blast from Round Rock's Engle Beltre on June 1. The Sounds leveled the game in the second on Stephen Parker's RBI-single, which scored Sean Halton from second. Halton singled to reach base and advanced on a walk delivered to Hunter Morris. In the third inning, Nashville took the lead on Halton's two-run homer to right field. The blast, Halton's ninth of the season, scored Khris Davis, who singled to reach base. Halton finished the game two-for-three with two runs and two RBIs. Sounds catcher Blake Lalli also singled prior to Halton's homer, but was picked off at first base by Iowa's catcher. The I-Cubs pulled to within one run in the home half of the third inning when left fielder Dave Sappelt lodged a sharp grounder up the right-field line into the Sounds bullpen for a stand-up triple. The hit scored Logan Watkins to make it 3-2. Iowa tied the game with their second home run of the night: a lead-off dinger off the left-field wall from Junior Lake. The shot came against Sounds starter R.J. Seidel and was the first of Lake's Triple-A career. Donnie Murphy drew a walk off Seidel following the home run, before Iowa outfielder Brett Jackson drove in Murphy with his double to right field to give Iowa the 4-3 advantage. Murphy had reached scoring position on a steal. Seidel allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk across 3 2/3 innings of work. He fanned three Cubs before being relieved by Sanchez. Iowa starting pitcher Guillermo Moscoso (3-5) logged six innings to pick up the win, his third, while reliever Michael Bowden notched his second save. The nightcap, starting 30 minutes after game one, features RHP Johnnie Lowe (0-1, 3.72) against the Cubs' LHP Jeff Antigua (2-1, 2.70). Nashville Box K. 2. Back on the 2nd DSL game of the season on June 2nd, we saw this: DSL Brewers Top of the 4th Carlos Belonis strikes out swinging. Juan Ortiz walks. Sthervin Matos pops out to first baseman Victor Ovalles in foul territory. Yunior Santana grounds into a force out, third baseman Francisco Contreras to second baseman Domingo Leyba. Juan Ortiz out at 2nd. DSL Tigers Bottom of the 4th Defensive Substitution: Yerald Martinez replaces center fielder Carlos Belonis, batting 1st, playing center field. The Brewers have confirmed for us that Belonis broke his thumb, and that he is likely out for the season. It's unclear whether the injury occurred on that strikeout, Belonis did handle a fly ball the prior inning. Quite the similarity to Orlando Arcia's broken ankle in the spring of 2012, in terms of prospectdom and scope. Belonis had just begun a transition from SS to CF. Crap. Hopefully Belonis can bounce back equally as well as Arcia has so far.
  3. Exciting to see Dicent & Rizzo, formerly international men of prospect-status-mystery, bumped stateside!
  4. 132 pitches, mostly FBs... gotta love college coaches.
  5. I'm not very familiar with Larkin, but if the talent pool in that 10-20 range is in fact weak, then at least you know you are getting a player with one elite tool (speed). I sure hope the Bucks can trade up... or at least not trade away picks.
  6. Profar plus another prospect for two years of Yo & a so-so outfield bat? That's just not a very realistic price tag imo.
  7. I'm bushed again tonight, apologies for the simple post Sounds Edged In Iowa, 6-4 Nashville Reliever Greg Holle Makes Triple-A Debut Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/kh6rs7x.jpg Frankie De La Cruz & Blake Lalli, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) DES MOINES, Iowa - The Nashville Sounds twice pulled to within one run of the Iowa Cubs Thursday night at Principal Park, but never got over the hump, losing by the final score of 6-4. Sounds pitcher Frankie De La Cruz (1-7), in his first start since May 24, allowed a quick 3-0 lead to the Cubs in the first inning. With runners on first and second, infielder Junior Lake pushed a single past a diving Blake Davis to score Iowa's first run. Shortstop Donnie Murphy, 3-for-3, followed with a double down the right-field line to plate two more runs. Nashville scored its first two runs in the fourth inning. Sean Halton hit a towering RBI triple off the centerfield wall to bring home Blake Lalli, who singled, before scoring on the next ball put in play: a ground out by outfielder Cole Garner. The I-Cubs got one run back in the home half of the inning with a two-out RBI-double from right fielder Brian Bogusevic, 4-for-4. Bogusevic's extra-base knock ended De La Cruz's night. The starter took the loss, his seventh, finishing with four runs on seven hits and three walks across 3 2/3 innings of work. De La Cruz fanned five Cubs, before being relieved by Travis Webb. Webb entered with one runner on base and got out of the inning with a fly out to snap a stretch of five games in which Sounds relievers had let in their last nine inherited runners. The lefty worked 2 1/3 scoreless innings for the Sounds, retiring seven of his eight batters. Blake Davis, 2-for-4, led off the fifth with a double to right field, moved to third on Webb's sacrifice bunt, and scored on a single from Hainley Statia to pull Nashville to within one for the second time. But once again the Cubs pulled away, scratching two runs on four hits against Sounds reliever Michael Olmsted in the seventh. Outfielder Khris Davis scored Nashville's final run in the eighth, driven home on a Hunter Morris groundout. Davis reached base on a lead-off single to right field and moved to third with Blake Lalli's double. Sounds reliever Greg Holle made his Triple-A debut in the eighth inning, joining Nashville after 26 relief appearances in Double-A Huntsville. The 24-year-old fanned pinch-hitter Brent Lillibridge and walked Bogusevic before retiring the side in his hitless debut appearance. Halton, 2-for-4, helped keep the Cubs off the board in the second inning by gunning down Iowa catcher Luis Flores at home plate on Bogusevic's second single of the game. Cubs starting pitcher Yoanner Negrin (2-2) picked up the win for Iowa, allowing four runs to Nashville on nine hits over eight innings. Brian Schlitter netted the save, his fifth. The Sounds conclude their Iowa six-pack with a doubleheader Friday night at Principal Park. Throwing for Nashville in game one will be RHP R.J. Seidel (1-3, 5.45) opposite Iowa's RHP Guillermo Moscoso (2-5, 4.88). The nightcap will feature RHP Johnnie Lowe (0-1, 3.72) against a Cubs' pitcher still to be announced. 8. He's posted a .961 OPS since coming back from injury, & I'm not sure he's someone Texas would be looking to sell low on. I also don't get the sense Texas as a franchise would be very inclined to sell low in general... they seem too well-run imo.
  9. Ok, thanks! And... uh, wow. I don't know how I missed this, but in doing a quick Google search for a picture of Yo's dad, I found this piece from Mothers' Day 2013. I had no idea Yo's mom passed away last November.
  10. It is, yes. It'd be greatly appreciated if anyone can go back, take a screenshot of Yo's dad, & post the picture here. Since brwrsfan noted he looks a lot like him, I'm curious to see.
  11. It was a hypothetical which I didnt really think was that hard to figure out. In any case, if the Cards offered a trade like that, would you take it if you were Milwaukee? It would give the Brewers a frontline pitcher with 5 more years of control. As someone put it earlier, would Segura + #5 Starter > Shelby Miller + Replacement Shortstop? I don't know the answer to that. So a strawman. I think it's a pretty relevant question. I didn't read it as an attack or argument from Surhoff5, maybe I'm missing something.
  12. Well spotted and exactly what was needed to resolve this. TooLiveBrew, I have fixed the topic you linked to. If we are linked to these funky topics they can easily be repaired. Ideally links to the individual posts are best, so we can double-check things. To get a direct link to a post, just click the post number on the top right of the post. This sort of thing does happen and perhaps it occurs more when the board is busy? This board certainly pushes the limits of the server at times. There is a tool provided to repair these topics (Moderators check out the resync topic option in the MCP), therefore it is a known issue and likely one that will not be resolved. As a one-off, I am going to check and repair all topics on this board as necessary within the next 24 hours. I may have to pick a quieter time to do this though. After then, please do not hesitate to report occurrences of this and any moderator can resolve it in under a minute. Thank you! Sorry I forgot to check back in on this thread, but TC07 & 1992casey summarized things accurately.
  13. It's an Ariel Speedwagon night! He's been quite good for a while now -- 2.26 ERA over his past 10 starts. Won't be much longer before he heads to Nashville imo.
  14. Nashville Game 2 Sounds Held To One Hit In 1-0 Nightcap Defeat Thornburg Takes Hard-Luck Loss For Nashville Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/etnpqyr.jpg Tyler Thornburg, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) DES MOINES, Iowa - Three Iowa Cubs pitchers held the Nashville Sounds to only one hit -- an Anderson De La Rosa single -- while recording a 1-0 victory in the second game of a doubleheader on Wednesday evening at Principal Park. The game featured a pitchers' duel between Tyler Thornburg and Barret Loux as neither team scored over the first five innings of action. Thornburg (0-9) took another in a series of recent hard-luck losses for Nashville, allowing one unearned run on five hits while striking out seven batters over six innings. The game's only run scored as a result of his own throwing error. Thornburg threw 91 pitches and received credit for a complete game. With the clubs locked in a scoreless deadlock, Iowa finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth, plating an unearned run follow a throwing error on the Sounds hurler. Logan Watkins led off the inning with a single. Later, Steve Clevenger hit a one-out comebacker to the mound which should have been an inning-ending double play but Thornburg misfired to second, leaving runners on first and second. Former Sound Brad Nelson drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases for Brent Lillibridge, who fanned for the second out. With pinch-hitter Donnie Murphy at the plate, Thornburg uncorked a wild pitch to allow Watkins to race home with the game's only run. Brian Schlitter came on for the bottom of the seventh and retired the Sounds' 2-3-4 hitters in order to secure his fourth save of the year. Hisanori Takahashi (1-0) worked one scoreless inning of relief to pick up his first win of the year for Iowa. The teams continue the series with a 7:05 p.m. meeting on Thursday. Right-hander Frankie De La Cruz (1-6, 7.77) will toe the slab for the Sounds. Iowa will counter with right-hander Yoanner Negrin (1-2, 3.67). Chris Narveson (1-2) made his fifth rehab start for the Sounds and held the I-Cubs to two runs on four hits over five-plus innings of work, tossing 80 pitches to earn the victory. He walked one batters and struck out two. The Sounds got off to a quick start against Iowa left-hander Brooks Raley (5-5), plating two runs in the top of the first inning. Nashville loaded the bases with no outs on a pair of walks followed by an opposite-field Blake Lalli single to left. Sean Halton was subsequently hit by a Raley pitch to drive home the first run of the contest. Hunter Morris followed and grounded into a double play, with Khris Davis (2-for-2) scoring from third on the play to make it a 2-0 contest. The I-Cubs responded in the home half of the opening frame. Logan Watkins led off with a triple to right off Narveson and scored on a Donnie Murphy groundout to cut the Sounds' lead to 2-1. The Sounds increased their lead to 5-1 in the third with three two-out runs off Raley. After Nashville loaded the bases on a Khris Davis double and a pair of walks, Cole Garner plated a pair of runs with a two-out, bases-loaded single up the middle. Stephen Parker (2-for-3) followed with a first-pitch RBI single to center. Iowa rallied in the bottom of the sixth inning against Kyle Heckathorn, plating a pair of runs before leaving the bags full in making it a 5-3 contest. The I-Cubs loaded the bases with no outs as a result of a single, walk, and throwing error by Parker before former Sound Brad Nelson cut the Nashville lead to 5-2 with a sacrifice fly. Junior Lake followed with an RBI single and Brett Jackson drew a walk to re-load the bags with one out. Heckathorn recovered to retire the next two hitters to escape the inning and protect the two-run lead. Closer Rob Wooten took over for the Sounds in the seventh. Watkins greeted the right-hander with his second triple of the night and pulled the Cubs within a run at 5-4 when he scored on a Murphy groundout. Wooten retired the next two batters in succession to close out the win and record his 14th save of the year. Nashville Box Hainley Statia: 1-3, BB, SB K. 17. I know. I was just kidding. The part of your previous post I quoted has probably been in dozens of TC07's posts, verbatim, over recent years. I think you'll find you agree with him quite frequently.

  19. Sounds Blanked In Series Opener In Iowa, 7-0 Nelson Hurls Quality Start For Nashville But Takes Hard-Luck Loss Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/N7RBwhj.jpg Jimmy Nelson, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) DES MOINES, Iowa - Three Iowa Cubs hurlers combined on a four-hit, 7-0 shutout of the Nashville Sounds on Tuesday evening at Principal Park in the opener of a six-game series. The shutout was the fifth suffered this season by the Sounds (24-46), who left eight runners on base in the contest. Iowa has won nine of its last 12 contests, while Nashville has dropped four of its last five. Iowa right-hander Nick Struck (4-4) squared his record on the year by earning the win with 6 2/3 frames of scoreless, three-hit ball. Casey Coleman worked 1 1/3 innings of relief before Eduardo Sanchez closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth for the I-Cubs. Right-hander Jimmy Nelson (0-2) worked a quality start for the Sounds but took a hard-luck loss for the second time in his three Triple-A outings. The young right-hander allowed two runs on six hits over 6 1/3 innings, walking four batters and striking out three. Iowa grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Donnie Murphy. The two-bagger, which came on a 3-0 pitch from Nelson, plated Dave Sappelt, who led off the frame with a single. After managing only one hit through the first six innings against Struck, Nashville threatened in the seventh but missed an opportunity to get onto the scoreboard. Red-hot Sean Halton, who has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 contests, reached on a one-out bloop single to right and moved to third on Hunter Morris' double off the right field wall. Struck popped up Josh Prince for the second out before Coleman took over on the hill for the Cubs. The right-hander walked Stephen Parker to load the bases before retiring Blake Davis on an inning-ending fielder's choice. Iowa stretched its lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the seventh by batting around and plating four runs against a trio of Sounds hurlers. After an inning-opening single by Brent Lillibridge and a sacrifice bunt, Nelson was lifted in favor of left-hander Travis Webb, who failed to retire any of his three batters faced. The southpaw issued a walk and hit a batter to load the bags before Lillibridge raced home on a passed ball charged to Blake Lalli. Iowa catcher Steve Clevenger followed with an RBI single to right that chased Webb and made it a 3-0 contest. Tim Dilard was summoned from the Nashville bullpen and the sidewinder was greeted by a two-run double off the bat of Sappelt. The Sounds put two runners on with two outs in the eighth against Coleman but the veteran hurler caught Halton looking at strike three to end the frame with the shutout intact. Iowa added a pair of unearned insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth against Dillard to extend the lead to 7-0. Brian Bogusevic and Sappelt contributed RBI singles in the frame. The runs scored following a fielding error at first base by Morris. The teams continue the series with a 5:00 p.m. doubleheader on Wednesday evening that will consist of a pair of seven-inning contests. Left-hander Chris Narveson (0-2, 8.31) will make his fifth rehab start for Nashville when he mans the bump in the opener to face Iowa southpaw Brooks Raley (5-4, 4.22). The nightcap will feature a matchup of Sounds right-hander Tyler Thornburg (0-8, 6.29) and I-Cubs right-hander Barrett Loux (4-2, 5.66). 21. Ugh, great. I was worried he fell as far as he did because he's going to be a trickier sign. I'd hate to see power potential (esp. from the LH side of the plate) like that slip away.
