  3. The Gomez offer better be really, really good. Carlos & Hardy were traded when their values were about at career lows. Without too much imaging, I can get excited about what some GM might be willing to give up for a minimum of 3.5 seasons of Gómez at a reasonable salary. A bigger-market GM might trade for him with the goal of extending him since he's still young. As an example... if Sandy Alderson/NYM feel Gómez is a long-term answer -- “(Justin) Upton and Michael Bourn interested us last winter,” said one team source, “in part because it’s hard to build an entire outfield in one offseason.” --& they offered some combination (not all three) out of Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard, & Wilmer Flores (Flores probably winds up at 3B), you have to think that over. I think ARZ, BOS, NYM, SFG, & TEX could all potentially have interest, and that's only the immediate contenders. Gómez is young enough & has enough salary control that he'd also fit with any team that felt it was going to start contending. The market for him could wind up being pretty strong.
  4. Sounds Blare In Memphis; Win 7-1 Nashville's Hunter Morris Goes Yard Twice For 4 RBIs http://i.imgur.com/up90nhS.jpg Hunter Morris, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) AUDIO: Ozzie Chavez Hits Deep RBI-Double AUDIO: Hunter Morris' First Homer AUDIO: Morris' Second Home Run MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds belted their way to 7-1 victory over the Memphis Redbirds Saturday night at AutoZone Park, highlighted by Hunter Morris' two-homer game. Morris saved the fireworks for his final two at-bats, tagging home runs off Memphis reliever Nick Additon in the seventh and eighth innings. His first jack opened the seventh and ended his 0-for-14 slump. Then with two outs in the eighth, Morris slapped a three-run homer to the right-field corner to increase Nashville's lead to six runs. The multi-home run effort is Morris' third of the season and gives him 12 dingers on the year. Starting pitcher Mike Fiers (1-1), making his first Sounds appearance since May 3, tossed five scoreless frames, fanning four Redbirds and walking one en route to his first victory in four starts for Nashville. The Sounds scored in each of the first three innings, jumping on Memphis starting pitcher Mitchell Boggs (0-1) for a 3-0 lead. Two Redbirds errors, one each from Ryan Jackson and Boggs, in the first inning allowed Sounds second baseman Hainley Statia, 1-for-3, around the base paths to score after reaching base on a single into right-center field to start the game. In the second, Khris Davis was hit by one of Boggs' pitches with the bases loaded to score Anderson De La Rosa. The Sounds recorded no hits in the inning, but loaded the bases by drawing two walks and beating out a fielder's choice. Finally, in the third with two outs, Ozzie Chavez lifted a double over Oscar Taveras in centerfield to score De La Rosa, who reached on a hit by pitch. Nashville accumulated 10 hits on the night and drew a season-high nine walks. Four Sounds had multiple-hit nights, while Sean Halton and Statia each drew three walks. The Sounds left a season-high 14 runners on base. The Redbirds picked up their lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning, when catcher Rob Johnson touched Nashville reliever Johnnie Lowe for a solo home run into the Memphis bullpen. Lowe logged two innings for Nashville, limiting Memphis to one run on three hits with three strikeouts and no walks. Michael Olmsted pitched a spotless eighth with one strikeout before Tim Dillard finished the game, allowing one hit. The Sounds will look to win the four-game series against the Redbirds Sunday at AutoZone Park. Throwing for Nashville in the 1:35 p.m. game will be LHP Chris Narveson (0-1, 13.50) opposite Memphis' RHP Scott McGregor (1-2, 7.31). 5. I split this topic & created the Draft Philosophy Thread with the good discussion that sprang up in this thread. To keep this thread easy to browse, please keep the discussion strictly about the draftees. If you're on the fence about which thread to post in, check the link to the new thread earlier in this post & read it over. If you think your post might fit better there, it probably would. Thanks!
  6. His build reminds me of Fielder's. Certainly looked similar in that HR competiton video. EDIT: Whoops, he's 6'4"... misread his ht/wt on the MLB Draft Tracker as 6'0"/245. More comparable to a Ryan Howard, but he's still stocky like Prince.
  7. That was a pretty easy swing for 500'+ shot
  8. It definitely was. They cruised along pretty well with the 1-0 lead, so when Jamaica got the 89th minute equalizer, the air went fizzing out of my balloon. Thankfully the same can't be said for the players!
  9. Sounds Edged By 'Birds, 2-1 Nashville's Jimmy Nelson Fans Seven In Triple-A Debut Nashville Sounds http://www.milb.com/assets/images/7/6/0/49981760/cuts/607_statia_pl2iww9o_rzswy2on.jpg Hainley Statia, archive photo (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) AUDIO: Hainley Statia's RBI-Single AUDIO: Gindl's Throw To Home Double Play MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Despite striking out seven batters and allowing no earned runs in his Triple-A debut Friday night, Jimmy Nelson (0-1) took the tough-luck loss Friday night at AutoZone Park as the Nashville Sounds fell to the Memphis Redbirds, 2-1. Nelson, promoted to the Sounds two days prior, allowed Memphis just three hits and three walks across five innings of work. The right-hander threw 87 pitches and fired 55 for strikes. But it was the Redbirds' two unearned runs in the second inning that landed Nelson with his debut loss. In the second, Nashville third baseman Stephen Parker committed a two-base fielding error to start the frame, as the ball rolled up his arm and into foul territory. Memphis outfielder Justin Christian hit a single into right field that scored the lead runner, then with one out and the bases loaded, Adron Chambers grounded to the pitcher to score the runner from third to make it 2-0. The Sounds scored their only run in the top of the fifth inning when Hainley Statia, two-for-five, hit a single up the middle to drive in Josh Prince from second. Prince was aboard via a double he crushed off the top of the 15-foot left-field wall. Prince's run went against Redbirds starter Carlos Martinez, who had not allowed a run for Memphis through his first 11 1/3 innings. Martinez only pitched 4 1/3 innings, not enough to qualify for the win, which instead went to Sam Freeman. Victor Marte notched his 11th save. The Sounds had two bases-loaded opportunities in the contest, loading them with two outs in the second inning, when Nelson reached base on balls in his first Triple-A at-bat. Prince lined it to first baseman Brock Peterson to end the chance. Nashville loaded them again in the fifth, but Blake Lalli, two-for-four with two doubles, struck out to end the inning. Reliever Jesus Sanchez picked up 1 1/3 scoreless innings, before Travis Webb and Clay Hensley each picked up a third of an inning to end the seventh. Kyle Heckathorn fanned one Redbird in a scoreless eighth inning. Caleb Gindl kept the lead at one run in the sixth inning with a great throw to the plate from right field to stop Jamie Romak from scoring and record the Sounds second double-play. Offensively, the Sounds out-hit the Redbirds 10-7, with Gindl leading the way with three hits. The Sounds will look to retake the series lead against the Redbirds Saturday night at AutoZone Park. Throwing for Nashville in the 6:05 p.m. game will be RHP Mike Fiers (0-1, 1.59) opposite Memphis' RHP Mitchell Boggs (0-0, 3.68). 10. Can you please link the source? Not disputing, but I didn't find it.
  11. Reminder via pebadger in tonight's IGT: USMNT play a World Cup qualifier in Kingston, Jamaica tonight. 8:30p CT TV: beIN Sport I know no one here would possibly be interested in this, but I wanted to say that if someone wanted to find a decent stream of this game, that someone could check a site called wiziwig[dot]tv. Naturally, no one here will have interest in doing something like that, though.

  13. A simple, clean delivery out of the stretch there from Hellweg. That's nice to see. Easy cheese.
  14. Not a fan in general of drafting a 5'11"/185 pitcher so high in the draft... not that I know anything about the kid, really, though.
  15. In this case, I actually am glad to hear Law was on-board with the pick. He definitely loves high-ceiling types, and that's exactly what we got with Williams.
  16. Just 10 hits allowed for Hellweg over his last 20 IP (3 starts). He might not be piling up the Ks, but AAA hitters just aren't squaring up his pitches. Hellweg (5-4) scattered three hits over his seven scoreless innings to pick up his fourth win in the last five starts. He walked three batters and struck out three during his 93-pitch effort, his third straight quality start. The Sounds scored first in the low-scoring affair on Blake Lalli's two-out RBI single in the top of the fourth inning. Hainley Statia (2-for-2), who drew an inning-opening walk from Memphis starter Richard Castillo (0-2), scored on the knock to break a scoreless tie. Nashville doubled the lead in the eighth with a run off Redbirds reliever Marc Rzepcynski. Sean Halton led off with a single and went station to station on a Blake Davis sacrifice and Statia single before scoring on Caleb Gindl's RBI single to center. Memphis got a run back in the home half of the eighth against Michael Olmsted. Adron Chambers drew a one-out walk and later scored on a two-out RBI double off the bat of Ryan Jackson. Olmsted left Jackson stranded at second by popping up Brock Peterson to end the inning. Rob Wooten closed out the victory with a scoreless ninth. The right-hander worked around a leadoff Greg Garcia doubled, retiring the next three batters to nail down his ninth save of the year. The teams continue the series with another 7:05 p.m. meeting on Friday. Right-hander Jimmy Nelson will make his Triple-A debut with a start for the Sounds. Memphis will counter with right-hander Scott McGregor (1-2, 7.31). 17. Who? Must be another no-name like that Carlos Rondon guy that Melvin didn't remember.
  18. Any word on what round he's expecting to hear his name called?
  19. Hear hear. Tireless efforts, day in & day out.
  20. Yeah, I'm definitely curious.
  21. Are you saying I'm not hungover? Because I sure feel hungover. Haha, thanks for clearing that up. I read you post like 3 times and was really confused. Thank you... I needed that laugh at this point today.
  22. Yep, same here, and it's almost always to check on MiLB players, to boot
