  1. That's the name that stood out to me too, but his injury WOAHs made me question whether or not anyone would burn a 25-man spot on him.

  3. I dunno, a career 4.28 ERA with 80+% of it coming in the AL East, and he got $8.33M AAV. Doesn't seem too out of line, especially since the Royals will probably need at least one innings-eater as a placeholder for a season or more. Aren't many Brewers fans advocating giving Ryan Dempster (two seasons older) somewhere in the neighborhood of $10-12M or so AAV for two seasons? This contract doesn't seem too out of line for me given the economic landscape & the Royals' developmental standing. Plus, if Guthrie can pitch to career norms, KC could probably flip him for a decent return if they wanted.
  4. I think that's a logical conclusion from that snippet. But remember Hamilton's camp floated the 5/$175M number, which to me says they're looking for $150M at the least. Still waaaaaay too much money for any team that stays sane. So with that said, maybe he winds up a Dodger?
  5. If he puts in a replica of '12 in '13, he'll probably be looking at pretty similar FA deals. Or at least that's what Boras will be telling him, wrt a hypothetical Brewers extension offer.
  6. For anyone in favor of extending Gomez (I am, but not at what I think it'll cost), watch what Bourn & Upton get as FAs this offseason. If you're willing to beat the contracts they get, maybe then I could see a Boras client not hitting free agency. Otherwise there's no realistic chance.
  7. Commissioner Selig has approved this deal (MLBTR link)
  8. I'd love to see the Barrel Man brought back for ST unis. Nothing fancy to them... Barrel Man on the hat & sleeve, and I probably wouldn't care much about font for the lettering/numbers.
  9. Melvin has gone on record basically saying that he thinks huge FA contracts are way too big a risk. I think the offer tendered to Greinke represents 100% of how far he'd go to sign a player. I think the only reason non-local sportswriters keep pointing at the Brewers is simple: Narron.
  10. Hitman -- LOVE the creativity in that new logo! I just noticed the foam is N WI.
  11. It's a ton of money for a team that's nowhere close to contending. Shedding salary has a lot of value for them.
  12. So maybe contribute to the original thread premise? Where do you think he winds up?
  13. This topic isn't about adding a bat, it's about where people think Stanton will wind up
  14. So far, Segura's defense looks so good that he should have a lot of long-term value. I guess Olt's defensive value is probably comparable, but Segura also looks ready to hit at the big-league level, while Olt is probably at least a half-season away yet. I won't argue that Segura will outhit Olt overall, but Jean will defend at a very high level, steal a lot of bases, and has the kind of swing to rack up lots of XBH. Olt has a great ceiling, but Segura looks to have a very nice floor at SS.
  15. That's a good point on the QO/comp pick. No, I wouldn't take Maldonado alone for him if I'm the Mets. They can do better than that, most likely. Although, I still would rather the Brewers have 6 more seasons of Maldonado than 1 of Dickey plus a comp pick.
  16. Based on what? The best prospect Miami received projects as a #3 starter under the best case. They gave up something like 8 wins next year for maybe a cheap few wins in 2 to 3 years. Yes the money evens it out, but to pretend that Miami received some large talent influx is just wrong. And there you have why I made the comment I did. You can't just gloss over the money.
  17. If the Mets asked for Lucroy for one season of Dickey (who's eligible for FA after '13), they'd rightfully be hung up on. I even hesitate, personally, to consider moving 5+ more seasons of Maldonado for one of Dickey. If the Mets are going to be asking for a valuable piece in exchange for him, I'd rather the Brewers not even explore the possibility.
  18. Besides the fact that I'm predicting LuCroy will make the all-star team this year, aaahh no way in HECK!! Jim are you a Mets fan?? OMG that's an awful deal. http://i.imgur.com/5ffTf.gif
  19. Nolasco's really a good idea for the Brewers as long as he'd be moved as a salary dump (aka not expensive). He's that 'Guy to eat up innings for when the young SPs hit innings limits' that's been discussed in this subforum.
  20. If Mayor Regalado wants to see the Marlins competitive, he should like this trade.
  21. Yeah, the premise of this thread is off. A catcher putting up the numbers Posey did, with a RHB-swallowing park as his home park... there's nothing about this that includes Braun getting "jobbed". Not to mention that Kemp got "jobbed" last season. Just not worth huffing & puffing. Posey had an outstanding season coming off of an horrific injury, and deserves this MVP as much as anyone in the NL this season. Braun had a 'silence the critics' season to show he's not just the product of PEDs. All is well here, folks.
  22. Thanks Ted-whatever & Mass Haas for your AFL & winter league updates!
