  1. Are we really going to go into another season with Kottaras as our late inning power threat off the bench? I have the same concern, but I think it's still a little early to worry about that.
  2. I'd have to guess you're right on that, burnzy, especially since Nolan Ryan has been quoted at least once this offseason saying the Rangers weren't in on Prince... I just assumed it was a smokescreen, turns out not.
  3. X-Men: First Class had me with Michael Fassbender, superpowered James Bond. He's great and James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence are also very good. I was pretty underwhelmed by this incarnation of the X-Men saga*. And I have to vehemently disagree on Jennifer Lawrence -- she nearly ruined the entire movie for me. 'Cringeworthy' only scratches the surface for me of how painfully bad she was. * However, I agree with your assessment that it's good blockbuster/popcorn-chomping fare
  4. Finally, don't forget about injuries. Braun missed about 10 games last year. Hart about 30. Morgan and Gomez both went on the DL. This is the main reason I love the depth. That, and because an NL team can always find a way to use another good bat, like you noted at the end of your post.
  5. Right now I'm actually just loving the depth this team has. I'm in no hurry to see Morgan traded, but agree that if you can maximize his value you go for it. Even if Braun has to serve a 50-gm. suspension, how can you not love the OF of Braun/Plush/Aoki/Gomez/Hart?
  6. I believe so, yes. EDIT: all I could find via Google search was a comment from his father: "If the bid amount is too high, it's going to influence contract negotiations," he said last week in an interview with Japan's Sports Nippon newspaper. "It will worry me if it's over $40 million." ... but I thought I remembered reading comments specifically from Yu Darvish himself, and like you said, about the posting system exploiting players or something like that. Oh well. Also, I commented yesterday that I'd be surprised if it wasn't the Yanks who signed Darvish. Well, I'm surprised.
  7. I think BF has done top-... 10? 25? user-submitted lists before.
  8. If anyone is familiar with international soccer club player transfers, this is basically the exact same process. But it sounds like people in general aren't familiar. It's really a sensible process for player trades/transfers. The purchasing team has to pay the selling team enough money for it to make sense to move the player, & then the player & buying club have to agree on a contract. And if the purchasing team can't agree on a contract with the player, their bid is refunded. There may be technicalities beyond that, but that's the general idea. I don't think you can assume that MLB wouldn't be happy with a club, sometimes the player is the reason talks break down. I think if talks do break down with Darvish, it'd be on him more than any signing team, just since he's still so young & has expressed a measured approach to this posting process. But I agree that it's great PR for everyone involved for the player to sign a deal. I'll be surprised if Darvish isn't a Yankee relatively soon... just seems like Cashman's style to keep it completely quiet. How much do you think the BoSox are kicking themselves for spending all that money on Lackey now?
  9. Reminder that ramssuperbowl99 did his own mock P50 -- http://brewersfandemonium...11/My-Knock-Off-Power-50 A user P50 could be fun. Open voting for the next two weeks or something & then just post the results.
  10. I think this thread's premise is great. I agree that Hart has been & will continue to be a nice piece of the puzzle for the Brewers. And honestly, if he wanted to sign another multi-yr. contract & move to 1B (I know he's mentioned he doesn't want to play 1B now... just conjecturing about the future) eventually, I think he'd be a good player to sign long-term. I think he can be counted on to maintain his production well into his mid-30s. He may not have aged well as a fielder or athlete, but he's aged pretty well as a hitter.
  11. isn't it possible that at least there has been some very bad reporting on this subject? I think it's pretty clear that that's been the reality, not just a possibility, thus far http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. If that's the case, a NRI would be fine by me
  13. I might look into asking if I can "job shadow" for a bit or something and see if I find any openings with that. The lack of experience is the main thing holding me back, even with applying for jobs that "only" require a Bachelors degree. I can't really get a job without experience but I can't really get experience without the job. It's kind of a chicken and egg thing. Volunteering is the best way (only way) I've been able to come up with to avoid having a huge gap on my resume, & get past the chicken & egg conundrum. But I also haven't had the problem of a place turning away my offer to help, that seems surprising to me. The job shadowing idea's a good one, it shows your interest is genuine.
  14. I don't know if the Brewers can afford Hall unless he takes a discount to play for them. If he would, I guess why not?
  15. I think I'd rather see the Brewers wait out the ST decisions & potential waiver-wire acquisitions than have to pay Theriot for two seasons. He's probably the best utility IF guy left, but that's not really saying much.
  16. Shut the thread down. Nothing will top this. It was about to become mine. Rats.
  17. You could also put in some volunteer work with any kind of charity; that'd look very good on a resume, & you might wind up making some more contacts from it too. Given your comments/situation, if there's anywhere you could work to help provide pro bono or significantly discounted legal services, maybe that'd be worth exploring. Sorry if I'm just saying things here you already know http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Fwiw, herpes isn't automatically a STD. There's a simplex of herpes that's passed genetically, not sexually.
  19. I think the reason not many are willing to project 30+ for Rickie is the durability concern. I agree that over a full, 700 PA-season, he'd hit 30-35, but I think it's more realistic to guess like 25 or so. But I think it's pretty clear that the point reillymcshane was getting at in his o.p. is true -- the Brewers' HR tally, and perhaps even offense, shouldn't be expected to be much different from last season.
  20. The guy they grabbed in the MiLB phase of the Rule 5 draft might be a candidate for that role down the road: Domnit Bolivar Obviously that's just my own speculation, I've never seen the guy play.
  21. Their best response would be to announce that he has not failed a drug test and any rumors to the contrary are inaccurate. If Braun is found to be free & clear, under any circumstances, I fully expect MLB's response to be this, almost verbatim. They will never admit their testing system is flawed in any way. Way too much egg that'd be on faces.
  22. I think Ish was signed as depth & nothing more. Nashville needed an everday 1B now that Gamel's up with the Brewers, and in case of a Gamel injury you have Ishikawa just a plane ride away.
  23. Yeah, having Plush & Gomez out there to cover >2/3 of the outfield will definitely save a lot of runs.
