  1. He's got the reputation (confirmed to me via a Giants fan) of being a stellar defender, too
  2. Alright, I'll play. I included my own guesstimated OPS ranges. -W/O Braun: -W/Braun: LF Morgan .700-.800 LF Morgan 1B Gamel .800-.900 1B Gamel 2B Weeks .800-.900 2B Weeks 3B Ramirez .825-.900 LF Braun .900-1.000 RF Hart .825-.900 RF Hart C Lucroy .675-.775 3B Ramirez SS Gonzalez .650-.750 C Lucroy CF Gomez .600-.700 SS Gonzalez And what I think Roenicke will do -- -W/O Braun: -W/Braun: RF Hart RF Hart LF Morgan CF Morgan 2B Weeks LF Braun 3B Ramirez 3B Ramirez 1B Gamel 2B Weeks C Lucroy 1B Gamel SS Gonzalez C Lucroy CF Gomez SS Gonzalez EDIT: Serious formatting problems with the 'code' feature
  3. Furcal cannot hit a ball (outside of Brewers pitching to him) Aramis is almost always good for 140 games I didn't mean that they were similar hitters, just very talented players with similar drawbacks or risks. Furcal's greatest talents are on defense, while obviously A-Ram's are on offense.
  4. You know what really irks me (beyond the obvious) about this Braun fiasco? Aside from that, I've been loving this offseason. Gonzalez for SS, Ramirez for 3B... if I didn't know any better, I'd think I was a fan of a big-market team. I've even been enjoying following Prince's FA journey. Not enjoying that he's leaving, but just that I wish him the best & look forward to seeing where he winds up.
  5. The glove might have a better arm.
  6. Given the obvious caveat that they play different positions, Ramirez seems a bit of a similar case to Furcal -- very legit talent, but aging & with durability concerns. I don't like that the contract's a three-year deal, but I really like the addition of Ramirez. Third base is such a weak position around the league right now; the Brewers could well wind up having the best 3B in the NL next season.
  7. Yes, let's hope the Brewers throw one more curveball at Gamel & make him learn another totally new position, right after he's gotten comfortable at 1B. No way should they be blocking his defensive & overall development with an old, expensive downgrade like Lee.
  8. Players change agents. This is not a big deal. Melvin said on the radio that Greinke called him up and they spoke for 15 minutes. This is more shocking than anything else being reported -- not only did Greinke call Melvin, but 15 minutes? That's gotta be about as long as ZG ever talks on the phone.
  9. Would TRT amp up your testosterone levels that far?
  10. "Is Prince still possible?" asks Jon Heyman, for Scott Boras.
  11. That's an automatic strike, right?! Mentioning Erick Almonte without any cause or justification!
  12. I was referring to Pittsburgh back in the day. Hmmm, my reading comprehension fail. I won't use a bad trade to label someone as a problem, though. The guy played for one org. after that trade, clearly any issues you're implying here are at best way overblown.
  13. Why do you think that they gave him away? Because they're beginning a rebuilding process & it would make zero sense to keep around the guy with durability questions who's entering his age-34 season. They weren't serious contenders for the past however many seasons & obviously wanted him. I also don't want to hear that there is not money to keep Grienke next year because they signed Ramirez. While I'm not sure how likely or unlikely it'd be that a Ramirez contract would preclude the Brewers from signing Greinke, I definitely agree with this sentiment. I tend to doubt it, but like I've said before, I can definitely respect you (or anyone) saying they don't want to see the Brewers sign A-Ram.
  14. You guys are like a pathetic guy in denial.........even though your girlfriend is boning everyone in town. This is exactly like that!
  15. Aside from innocent-until-proven-guilty, how is any of the 'blind mistrust' different from your blind faith in Braun?
  16. Brew Crew Ball's take on the signing. This gif is also courtesy of the BCB post -- http://cdn0.sbnation.com/imported_assets/896484/Yuni1B.gif.opt_medium.gif I can't say it enough... GOODBYE
  17. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi...011/12/09/SPBE1MAROQ.DTL Parker was the #9 overall pick in the 2007 draft; heading into 2011, Baseball America ranked him as the #33 prospect in MLB. I realize we have some... other... news that's preoccupying BF.net right now, but this is a pretty major trade. Also, it led to this Tweet from Breslow: http://i.imgur.com/2oE5L.png
  18. If it makes anyone feel any better, I'm sure Ryan has played with many teammates over his career who've juiced while Brewers.
  19. Nothing has ever come out (that I've read or heard) about his work ethic or anything like that. His highest games-played total (which is kind of an absurd qualifier to use, but oh well) was in 2003, which was by no definition a contract year. So yes, coincidence most likely. I get it, you don't want to see the Brewers invest in him -- but please stop with "he's not that good". He's been an elite third baseman over the course of his career.
  20. I think a visit back to the threads here for Big Papi's & A-Rod's cases would be interesting.
  21. I don't question there are other guys capable of leading, that really wasn't my point.
  22. Ramirez isn't that good. He's a butcher afield, and no spring chicken who has been known for having big contract years. "I dislike and/or don't want player x" is quite different from "player x isn't that good". By your logic, I could arrive at the conclusion that Aramis Ramirez was in the last year of a contract every season from 2004-2009. He's been one of the best 3B of his era, even with defense factored in.
  23. I know, just more about his overall career arc... to think that at one point in time I was expecting him to have the 3B job fulltime by 2009.
  24. Obviously Carlos Gomez will play LF & bat 3rd, because that's where the LF bats!
  25. Neither did Alex Sanchez. But it sounds like this is still very fluid, nothing is known for sure yet. The way news breaking/leaking has evolved with the internet is equal parts amazing & scary.
