  1. The game *was* actually aired on DirecTV channel 685 last night. That was a welcome surprise.
  2. Is there any compelling reason why Peralta wasn't bumped to Nashville this season? I understand he didn't pitch much in Huntsville last season, but does he really need to repeat it at all? EDIT: To further clarify that I'm not just basing this off one or two games, Peralta was one of the final two players considered for that 5th spot in Milwaukee. He lasted basically all the way through ST until he had one horrid outing, if my memory serves me. So it's not like the Brewers don't think of him as an advanced talent.
  3. Betancourt totally would've made that play
  4. Thanks. Now I just hope the game will actually be aired on the overflow channel, unlike last go-round. Typically when it shows up on the guide it gets aired. I don't remember seeing the game last week that wasn't televised as showing up on the guides any where. Fingers confidently crossed... It was shown in the guide as being on channel 162, and never aired.
  5. Thanks. Now I just hope the game will actually be aired on the overflow channel, unlike last go-round.
  6. It's because he's too soft. He couldn't handle all the emotion.
  7. I'd love to hear an explanation for Gomez batting second against a right handed pitcher. The sad truth is that the answer would be something about sacrifice bunting, bunting for hits, staying out of the double play, and stealing bases to get into scoring position in front of Braun & Fielder. Weeks/Morgan is such an obvious 1-2 (in either order). It's just painful to watch Roenicke continue to get it so wrong. Is he still having fantasies that Gomez can bat over .300 like he did in spring? Carlos has changed his whole approach! Line drives back up the middle & to right field! It's actually to the point where I'm happier seeing Gomez try to bunt his way on. Seems like a higher percentage play.
  8. Awesome, Zach. Have a great time. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Here's an old BF.net thread on this topic with good suggestions: Anyone been to Ireland?
  9. Social Anxiety Disorder /= "lost it mentally". Ask Zack Greinke.

  11. I wouldn't mind Nieves, even if he hit .210, if he truly was a defensive wizard behind the plate. But Nieves' defensive skillset is not enough for me to overlook the bat that Kottaras brings to the bench. I just wanted to point out that Tangotiger's Fans Scouting Report, which FanGraphs has wonderfully incorporated into its player pages, shows Nieves as having a very poor arm for a catcher -- and just in general being a subpar defender. He might be marginally better than Kottaras at blocking pitches, but not nearly enough to offset the vast difference in offensive ability. Yes, the disclaimer about the Fans Scouting Report is that the total career ballots for Nieves is 21, however, the fans that are aware of the Tangotiger FSR tend to be a well-informed subset imo (& there don't tend to be many ballots from fans outside of the giant markets like NY). To explain further why I wanted to post this, I'm just sick of hearing BA & Rock mislead Brewers fans by gushing about how Nieves is such an excellent defensive catcher every time he's playing. It's bad misinformation.
  12. Wouldn't it be Melvin making this decision? Ultimately I think he has the final say, but I know it's been mentioned on this board several times that it seems like Melvin lets his managers handle many of these decisions. I hope Melvin will be the one making the decision, because I have more faith that he'd go with Kottaras.
  13. Agreed, any help in getting Gomez on base is appreciated. Ron is trying his best to get me to like him.
  14. Great video, & thanks for posting that, jazzy.
  15. Nieves doesn't have an impressive CS rate in his career, can't hit, and isn't really an upgrade over Lucroy in terms of blocking pitches. I don't see what he brings to the table, but I have the fear that Roenicke will DFA Kottaras & keep Nieves... call it the Kotsay-effect.
  16. No hail of any real size for me in Appleton. I think I heard some hitting against the windows, but I didn't see any. The lightning was impressive. I've never seen so much lighting with a storm before -- it was almost literally constant.
  17. Doesn't sound like Rogers is fully healthy: I can never get MiLB archived audio files to play, but MassHaas's emphasis probably says enough on its own http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  18. Man, I don't know how I didn't think of him right away, danzig -- Common would be worth your time to check out. I'd pick an album, but you can't go wrong on him imo. Listening to Finding Forever right now, & loving it yet again.
  19. That's painting Rogers with far too broad a brush. 2010 was his first ever professional season over 100 IP. Does his command need work? Yes. Did he flash the ability to harness his stuff in his September callup last season? Absolutely. To say that he's not even on the major league radar is absurd.
  20. Good news all around, but I can't WAIT to see Zack Greinke pitch for the Brewers.
  21. At least early tonight his location was off. But the Cubs kept missing and/or chasing. Not sure if that speaks more to Narveson's stuff or the Cubs hitters' lack of discipline, though. Really great to see Chris get off to such a dominant start this season. Nothing jumps out at you when you watch him pitch, aside from the amount of swings & misses he generates. Can anyone that knows mechanics weigh in if his are a big reason why he's successful? (hiding the ball, changeup arm speed, etc.)
  22. More oblique strains. You have got to be kidding. Hopefully Gindl & Little Pine can get back & just hit.
  23. We should feel lucky you give us your medical opinions? You didn't even know Hart's appendix had ruptured. Questioning a guy's toughness is just lame imo.
  24. Like Principessa said, no game on DirecTV for us. I've been on hold calling DirecTV for almost half an hour now. Of course, that's cumulative, since I've been disconnected three different times before speaking to anyone. For anyone that wants to call in the hopes to pressure them to get something done, call 800-531-5000 & press *822 as soon as you get to the main menu. *822 is the tech support extension... I practically had to twist the cust. svc. rep's arm to get him to tell me that extension. No joke, when I asked for that direct number or extension, his first response was that he couldn't do that. It took me asking twice more, with the final time being relatively forceful & direct about having been cut off three different times & not wanting to sit through the phone tree again. Corporate America makes me want to break things. EDIT: Finally got through to tech support. The first response I'm getting is, "we don't have a 162". Anger. Rising. EDIT2: CWSOmaha, we also have CSN-Chi on 666-1, but it's not a channel that's included in our package. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif So the short version of the story, as best I can tell, is that WMLW didn't get its broadcast feed to DirecTV. The tech support guy I spoke with said he could see the channel I was talking about (& that in my region, the info said Cubs v. Brewers), but that it had no signal. Now, I'm sure DirecTV would want to divert blame if it were their fault, but I can't for the life of me figure any way in which it could be on them. I think it's pretty safe to say that WMLW continues to be the worst possible MLB broadcast in the country. I honestly don't think that's overstating things.
