  1. I can verify what honuswagner21 posted about the DirecTV coverage, in the Fox Valley, anyway. Channel 162. At least, that's what it shows on the guide. Channel 162 shows up when you do a "smart search" on the DirecTV menu. When I performed the same kind of search for the last WMLW game on April 5th, no alternate channel was returned (aside from Fox Sports South, which isn't a channel on my plan).
  2. Just for clarification: Russell Branyan > Tony Plush's plushness > Corey Hart's toughness > Mat Gamel's toughness > Jay Cutler's toughness > Adam Wainwright's toughness > Ned Yost
  3. I think one Chip Caray quote was something like, "I've seen enough of Nyjer Morgan this series", after Morgan's diving catch in RF today. Made me chuckle. And I'll add in one more echo... what a great interview. EDIT: Homer: Tony, how do you spell your last name? Tony Plush: P-l-u-s-h Homer: Ok Tony: Yeauh Homer: Oh Tony: Yeauh That exchange cracked me up
  4. Based on what we know, this criticism seems unwarranted. But not at all surprising. After all, this is the poster that wanted Hart flat-out released heading into last season. Although I'm sure Bobskube is not only a doctor, but that he's examined Hart specifically. From the game recap story on 8.2.09, the same day Hart went in to have surgery: This info wasn't hard to find. An initial timetable of 4-ish weeks clearly indicates that Hart's was obviously a more severe case of appendicitis than Holliday's or Dunn's. But yeah, he's totally soft. Because you can control how your inner parts heal by being a super tough guy. If only Uecker wasn't soft -- he would've been back after the All-Star break last season!
  5. Wow. Thank you!
  6. Nice! Glad to hear you've started off on your path... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. I swear Freddie Freeman is Corey Hart's long-lost brother: http://projectprospect.com/files/media/content/Freddie-Freeman300x450%20AFL.jpg?0
  8. Really glad that we got our first win, and really glad that Morgan is making the most of his PT, forcing Roenicke's hand in giving him PT. Hopefully it will come at Kotsay's expense now and at Gomez's expense once Hart's back. Yes, and Morgan not only seems to be the exact type of player that fits Roenin' Ron's gameplan, but he's played that way so far too. His "triple" last night made me wonder how Ron couldn't be all about the guy. some hits out of the 4-5 spots in the order will really get us rolling. Fielder certainly has tended to start out slowly -- career .832 OPS in March/April, his lowest other career monthly OPS is .883. In fact, May is Prince's best monthly career OPS. McGehee's career is short enough that you can't really make generalizations about his opening months, but I'm sure he'll start hitting too.
  9. Hmm, well good on you for trying all that stuff out. Make sure you give The New Danger a real chance; like I said earlier, it's really the sound you described in your lead post.
  10. start with Blackstar if you are going to give Mos and Talib a try. Yes. That album is amazing.
  11. Does anyone have a clue what channel this game is going to be on for Fox Valley DirecTV customers?
  12. The only one of those trade scenarios that seems close to plausible to me is #3. #s 1 & 2 are waaaay in favor of the Brewers.
  13. Yeah, no kidding. I swear his arms are even bigger this year than last year. His uniform hardly even fits them. You can't contain the thick arms of the Ugg-law!
  14. Is there anyone with bigger arms in MLB than Dan Uggla?
  15. Seems pretty obvious, doesn't it? I can't figure Roenicke out. On the one hand, he opts for veteran grit in Kotsay & Nieves. On the other hand, he sticks with Gomez's potential over Morgan's proven (veteran/gritty) production. Morgan/Weeks comprising the #s 1 & 2 spots in either order sounds really good to me. It's been really tough having that out-machine in between Rickie & the middle of the lineup.
  16. Mos Def strikes me as a a guy more my style, so i'll have to give him some heavier listening. You won't be disappointed. To the best of my knowledge, here's his major label release genesis: '98 - Black Star (self-titled), incredible duo album with Talib Kweli... another solo artist to check out if you don't know, but he's not rap/rock mix '99 - Black on Both Sides '04 - The New Danger '06 - True Magic '09 - The Ecstatic I haven't listened to his latest album, but I definitely can listen to any of the others regularly & in their entirety/ies. He also put out some large collaborative albums, We Are Hip-Hop (Vols. 1 & 2) in '07. I have those, don't listen to them as much, probably should more. But really for the sound you specifically described in the lead post, The New Danger is what you want for sure. Part of the reason why is i just got somewhat disenchanted with rap over the last 5-6 years or so as kinda mindless bling rap had seemed to have taken over that music form. Oh man, there's so much good stuff out there. I feel like Obi-Wan... "you've taken your first step into a larger world". I know BF.net can get your back here, danzig, & rattle off tons of great hip-hop acts beyond Mos Def & Talib Kweli. Let's see if I can come up with any more... Lupe Fiasco, The Roots, not exactly underground. M.F. Doom, Aesop Rock, Brother Ali ... honestly though I have no idea if anything I've heard of can actually still qualify as underground.
  17. As long as he can get comfortable at 1B, Gamel is a huge upgrade, athletically, over Prince. Whenever I think about what might have been with Gamel at 3B, I remember this play: http://milwaukee.brewers....y.jsp?content_id=4620435 I don't think the team will necessarily be better off without Prince... but if you analyze it as a comparison btw. keeping Prince at $150M+ for the next 5+ seasons, versus having that money available to use on other players, then yes the Brewers might be better off without him in the big picture. Plus he'll probably result in a couple of compensation picks to boot.
  18. I think you're right, I already don't like the small ball he's been employing. .360 OBP guy at the plate with a runner on second? Give up that out -- you've got that ace-in-the-hole .274 guy right behind him.
  19. It's not a rock/hip-hop collaboration, but Mos Def's album The New Danger has a very similar overall sound to the first of the two BlackRoc videos you linked. Besides, Mos Def is amazing anyway.
  20. But he's changed his whole approach -- he's only focusing on hitting line drives up the middle! In all seriousness, I really do hope Gomez can actually focus on better pitch selection & not trying to hit a HR every time up.
  21. Our current starting lineup looks a tick better today. Nyjer Morgan is getting the start in RF. Should be fun to watch Gomez & him run down flyballs today. Naturally, the guy with the carer .360 OBP against righties hits 7th, while Gomez's sparkling sub-.300 OBP is 2nd. Roenicke'd! Nieves appears to be ahead of Kottaras on the depth chart, which is also troubling.
  22. I guess I don't see how either could "live up" or "live down" For me, it's not the stats. It's how they've looked at the plate in terms of approach & swings -- lost.
  23. Adam McCalvy's latest blog post includes links to two videos: - Scoreboard video intro - Time-lapse video of the scoreboard installation process I especially liked the time-lapse video.
  24. How does Doug on one hand pull a fabulous trade like getting Carlos Lee for Scott Podsednik or getting Grienke, but then think it's smart to sign Kotsay and trade for Betancourt because Yuni had 78 RBI's last year? While I agree in a general sense that Melvin's been frustratingly up & down, I have a hard time believing that the Betancourt aspect of the deal wasn't something he really loved. I've just been assuming that the Royals insisted that YunE had to be included in order to pull the trigger. a sweep in the Cincy bandbox, and panic sets in after three games. Actually, if you've been reading the forums for the past month or two, you'd see people have been stating how concerned they are about Kotsay & Betancourt being viewed as solid additions to the team. There's nothing panicky here, and it doesn't have a whole lot to do with game outcome, either. People are rightfully concerned about the fact that Betancourt & Kotsay have lived up to how bad they were expected by some to be.
  25. And yes, it is a joke that Kotsay is playing more than Morgan. Don't worry, BA & Rock noted in the broadcast today that Roenicke is going to play Morgan when superstar Mark Kotsay needs days off. Even though he's amazing, he's older, so he needs more rest. Kotsay is ahead of Morgan on the depth chart. Roenicke is behind Dusty Baker. They aren't scoring any runs unless they hit home runs. No, remember? This team is going to be newly aggressive! Taking the extra base! Generating runs! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Just like was said going into last season. It's not hard to figure out, and it has nothing to do with 'waiting for the home run', when guys don't get on base, teams don't score much. The Brewers haven't been getting on base well, and it's directly related to having bad hitters in the lineup. Kotsay & Betancourt are basically automatic outs -- Roenicke has been giving away 6 or more outs each game by having these guys in the starting lineups.
