  1. Two reasons he's highly unlikely to be a Brewer: - Scott Boras - Money
  2. Don't forget that the whole reason the front office added two expensive OF in the first place was presumably because they didn't trust Santana's success to continue once his flaws were exposed to MLB pitching. They were arguably proven correct in 2018. I think a much more plausible argument is that Stearns leapt at the rare opportunity to add Yelich & Cain when he had the chance, with the plan to be able to flip Santana for a good young SP. I think he expected to be in the driver's seat & have an A+ offseason. Obviously he didn't find the return he was hoping for on Santana, which sucks. I agree with the sentiment that the OF crunch affected Domingo's confidence last season much moreso than his 2017 was a fluke (or that Stearns thought it was a fluke). I think he will return to his 2017 form, & aside from defense, Seattle will be happy they added him. Gamel is a good fit for our roster, and I always like adding OBP-heavy LH bats. If Zavolas becomes a MLB contributor, this trade could wind up looking quite nice in hindsight.
  3. I'm slightly concerned by how much I laughed reading this post. Thank you.
  4. According to Baseball-Reference, Brantley had made about $36M in his career after the 2018 season. Then a 2-yr deal almost doubles those earnings! Good deal for Houston, but that's also pretty great money for Brantley. I hope he's able to sign another big money deal after this one. Nice to see him do so well post-CC trade.
  5. That's not accurate, a lot of posters responded to say they'd much rather see the Brewers spend money on a reliever & keep the draft pick.
  6. He was fine in 54 IP with the Yankees, but his 102 IP with the Twins were pretty bad
  7. Nelson & the Brewers avoided arbitration today, settling at a $3.7M salary for 2019. https://www.mlb.com/news/brewers-jimmy-nelson-agree-to-deal/c-301766368
  8. How reliable are catching defensive metrics? I can definitely accept the judgment, for example, that Grandal simply was off his game in a small sample of the NLCS. But his mistakes weren't bad luck, he was genuinely awful behind the plate. Have catching metrics evolved to the point of being reliable? Not trying to imply they haven't, I'm genuinely curious.
  9. Likes the West Coast, Boras client... nothing to see here for the Brewers. Best no one gets his/her hopes up on this one.
  10. Great trade target, Eye Black. I didn't know anything about Peralta. Even prior to his excellent 2018, his MLB slash line was .293/.345/.468/.813. Playing half his games at Chase has probably aided his numbers, but that career .310/.361/.517/.879 line vs righties would be awfully nice in the lineup. A quick look at defensive stats say they think he's adequate in both corners. As much as I love the idea of Braun returning to a high level of production, I think we're past the point where the roster should be planned around him needing PAs. If the price on Peralta is fair, a mix of Yelich/Cain/Peralta/Braun/Santana/Aguilar would cover the OF & 1B pretty nicely. Thames would be the odd man out, & 1B wouldn't have a lefty swinging option, but otherwise I like that mix of depth & talent. The only hesitation I have is that we'd be buying high on Peralta. So I'd defer to Stearns & the scouts on whether his power increase is sustainable, assuming the DBacks would base their asking price on that being true.
  11. The Woodruff/Peralta discussion has been a very interesting one so far, so let's dial back the agitation toward each other. Please make a genuine effort to keep things civil. Thanks.
  12. ... for the Cardinals, of course.
  13. Or deal LeMahieu once Hiura is ready.
  14. ^^^ This. How many other teams' uniforms' colors are truly about the city -- especially only one aspect of a very large & diverse city -- and not the nickname/logo/mascot/whatever? Pittsburgh comes to mind. Black & gold are based on the Pitt family crest.
  15. I like the uniforms. Cool updated look for the Marlins.
  16. I agree with this. I didn't hate their prior look, but looking forward to seeing the whole uni & branding.
  17. Tunnell's big claim to fame (imo) was being lauded as an exceptional pitching coach when he was the roving pitching instructor for the minors. He also 'fixed Axford', but the reason he was known on BF was his overall work (& pre-dating the Axford' 'fix'). I'm completely shocked that he's been let go. Makes me wonder if it was due to him asking for more money and/or a larger title/role, because it's hard to identify a performance-based reason for him being let go.
  18. This thread was making me feel good, and then this post. Saaaaad feels. Overall I'll echo others saying the future feels bright, and especially agree with homer about this looking like the most pitching-rich Brewers org I have ever seen in my life. Looking forward to Burnes & Wood (& Nelson!) in the rotation next year
  19. TheCrew07. And yes, he was a he. I don't think he still checks in anymore. At least... I haven't noticed him or any posts by him.
  20. Probably, if A-Rod is making the decisions... He's a DUNCE! Are we sure we didn't lose to Colorado? They've got us right where they want us now. We literally can't beat them again for the entire rest of the season!
  21. The Champagne of Bullpens
  22. The challenge for recreating the depth of the 2018 pen is Barnes (& hopefully Woodruff) will be in the rotation. We'll need to find solid mid-game power arms if we want to hope for anything like a repeat of the 2018 pen imo.
