  1. I know what confirmation bias is, I don't need a Wikipedia link. Unfortunately you've firmly dug in your heels on this and no facts are going to get in your way. That's why I call Braun & Hart bad defenders -- the facts bear it out. What are your facts? You're bringing nothing but condescension & a holier-than-thou attitude imo. I know you're quick to assume all I'm doing is going to FanGraphs & regurgitating UZR & the like, but that's not the case. And if you think that only two posters are calling Braun & Hart bad defenders, I think you need to read more threads on the ML forum. Those types of comments are all over the place.
  2. Rock summed the Dickerson ejection up well by saying something like, 'Any ump would've tossed him there'. Duncan is really the only non-fan that might not have deserved to have been run, but he was probably barking at Davidson from the opening at-bat.
  3. I'm pretty sure you could hear that fan all game long, and he frankly was obnoxious even over the TV broadcast (and I swear I've heard him at other games). I really wasn't disappointed to see him ejected, but it does seem a bit much.
  4. But he doesn't call players up unless they're going to play. Just ask Mat Gamel & Jeremy Jeffress.
  5. It might be neat to do some sort of honoring of the 600th save, a la Ueck's 50 yrs., but honestly retiring his number would seem a little sad/desperate imo.
  6. I wouldn't compare it to 3000 for robin as dan o'donnell on am 620 did, but it was great and I had goosebumps. Yeah, it doesn't come anywhere close to comparing to Robin's 3,000th hit, but it was a very cool moment for Trevor. He's a class act all the way, and I'm glad he's been a part of the Brewers for the past two seasons.
  7. Oh my... I deserve the shame. I deserve it. I'm sorry Chris DICKERSON. Yikes.
  8. Macha got tossed, then Duncan, then Patterson, then the fan.
  9. The problem is that I like my Gillette Mach 3 way too much. I'm only somewhat embarrassed to admit that, in high school, my friends & I came up with a Sammy-Sosa-esque hand salute in honor of our beloved Mach 3 razors. I still use the Mach 3. For me, I swear the blades shave best on their second, and not first, use.
  10. Ortiz has been pretty good this season, with a .893 OPS to date. Fielder certainly carries a better OBP, but he hasn't been all that much better than Ortiz this season. I think Al's got a good idea in shifting Youk back to 3B to clear room for Prince. That would be a huge addition for the Red Sox.
  11. When Braun makes an imperfect throw and the result is a play that essentially loses the game, the immediate judgements were how AWFUL he is despite the fact that the video contradicted the claims made. At least in the IGT and chat, nobody started kvetching that Lucroy botched the play severly or that Braddock failed or that Casey might have cut the ball off other than one poster who said that the play should not happen without discussing blame. I was really ticked at Lucroy on that play, but I didn't happen to be chatting or posting in the IGT. I'm sure there are many others like me on that one. I went back & read the IGT, and I can see appx. 4 comments that rip Braun, and about 4 that either don't rip him or rip Lucroy and/or Braddock along with him. And one of the posters that ripped Braun clarified that his beef was that the throw was weak, not offline. Declaring Braun, Hart, McGehee and Fielder AWFUL or HORRIBLE doesn't make it so no matter how many times its repeated. Relative to their MLB counterparts, yes they are poor defenders. McGehee is the best of the bunch imo, but even he's not that good. Declaring that everyone else is wrong about these players doesn't make it so, either. Braun & Hart really might be the worst corner OF combo, defensively, in the entire league. They're brutal. Braun has just started to look like he doesn't even care out there this season.
  12. And they are just that - prospects. There is no guarantee that they will be successful at the major league level. While that's true, there's also no guarantee a 26-yo SS coming off an .821 OPS season will continue to be a good hitter, either. "Prospects" or "Proven MLB Performer", they're all just baseball players. I want to be able to trust the organization's scouting & projection of players as opposed to demanding a Proven Commodity™. If the best talent available isn't yet in MLB, I don't want to see the Brewers scared off. While I agree that a player like Prince isn't the kind the org. should hypothetically target in a trade right now, I'll play along pretending the salary situation isn't as great a burden as it realistically is. If Prince Fielder was that guy that I believed would be the final push over the hump into the postseason, & the team was strong at the other positions, I think I'd be willing to give up something like Rogers+Rivas.
  13. And before anyone says it adds time to the game. That would literally take less than a minute to do. Right when the play is questioned, time is called, judge immediately watches the replay, phones down to crew chief who confirms the call. Easy, should take no more than 1.5 minutes and probably less than that. This is part of what I meant when I said I'd like to see MLB get away from demagoguery. The 'It's going to make games longer!' argument drives me insane. Lord knows we'd rather have games be 2 minutes shorter rather than get calls correct.
  14. Rooting for Chelsea isn't? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  15. Not true at all, since Fielder is so likely to be traded this offseason. Werth would be a good acquisition, but I worry about the money & years it'd take to bring him in.
  16. They were never given a chance to match the Yankees This almost made me actually laugh out loud.
  17. Poor defense should be tolerated only by our best performing hitters. Those are basically the guys that are guilty of poor defense, aside from McGehee.
  18. Umps are human, and will make mistakes... which is why MLB should ditch the demagoguery with instant replay & start really planning how to implement it more thoroughly. You just can't win in a job where you are regarded as always having to be right. You don't see fans out there celebrating great calls that umpires make, the only things that get discussed are the blown ones. It's a completely hypocritical stance that we as fans take. I think more instant replay would not only help correct missed calls, it would underscore just how good the umps usually are.
  19. Maybe this seems like a dumb observation, but most of the interactions we see players having w/ Sedar are at 1B when they've somehow gotten on base. That's usually going to foster a positive interchange anyway, along with noticeable words of encouragement from Eddie Sedar as the 1B coach to those players. Not at all, that's a good point.
  20. That's strange, since there are questions as to whether or not the Brewers even made a realistic offer to CC
  21. Here's a guy I've thought of recently with the Katin discussion -- John Lindsey. If Lindsey can spend his entire career in the minors, it's entirely possible Katin could too.
  22. I'm not basing this off anything aside from the fact that, to this outsider, it appears the entire team has an awesome relationship with him. What about Ed Sedar for manager? I know nothing of his strategical approach to the game, and he could well be just another 'baseball guy' retread. However, the players really seem to love the guy, and he's been with the team long enough that he has to know just about every player pretty well. If he's comparable to Macha in terms of strategy, he would seem to me to be worth a look -- someone the players would appear to want to play for might really be a nice change of pace.
  23. I know everyone was getting worried, but fear not -- the Rays have another studly-looking pitching prospect in their system. LHP Matt Moore, an 8th-rounder from '07, has continued to put up ridiculous strikeout numbers at high-A ball. He's also improved his BB rate significantly this season, and looks well on his way to AA in 2011. Here's the take on Moore from the Baseball America Prospect Blog:
  24. Witrado's recap of today's outing by Randy Wolf... maybe Dave Bush. Details, details -- it's only the blog! Witrado is embarassing.
  25. I think you're severely undervaluing how much younger Castro is than Escobar, even though they're obv. both still young. Luck or not, Castro has produced better results in the bigs while three years younger than Alcides, and Castro was clearly the superior hitter in MiLB.
