  1. The main problem I see with Lee is that the Yankees will beat any offer. It's just not realistic to expect to be able to outbid them.
  2. It's turning a relatively useless piece in Edmonds into a pretty useful piece in Dickerson. I recognize that you aren't even interested in whether or not Dickerson can be a good player for the Brewers, RockCo, but most around here are.
  3. Just finished watching the MLB Network's The Club spotlighting the White Sox. Awesome series, esp. the final episode -- which focused on the trade deadline. Think The Homestand, but with a bit of a bigger focus on the front office. Anyone that can watch this should. MLB Network's website has some preview clips of the series, but no full episodes: http://mlbnetwork.mlb.com/network/shows/?id=11429344
  4. Only if he qualified as a Type A or B free agent, declined an offer of salary arbitration, and then signed with another team.
  5. Ugh, nice catch robin
  6. Phillips *will* get drilled for these comments... that's the classy way. I just hope Bruce/Edmonds/Votto knocks one out after the Phillips beaning.
  7. Seeing Braun wearing that brace tonight sure wasn't encouraging. I hope the org. doesn't let him rush back.
  8. The Pacific NW is definitely a hotspot of craft brewing. I'm not an expert by any stretch, but it would take a lot for the Upper Midwest to be on a par with the Pac NW.
  9. It's not about 7 innings. Jeffress has been dominant this season. 25 IP, 10 BB, 34 K, and a filthy 0.96 WHIP. Is it a tiny sample? Yes. But do the stats fall in line with the scouting reports on his dominant ability? You bet. Given that he's on the 40-man roster, and a humongous part of the organization's future, I think he'll get called up in September... also as a reward for keeping up good behavior and working hard.
  10. McCalvy has blog posts on the deal here & here. Probably safe to remove the question mark from the thread title. Dickerson will immediately join the big-league club.
  11. I like the move, Mr. Melvin. Dickerson should be a cheap OF reserve, as a LH bat with some pop... as long as he recovers fully from his wrist surgery. The following quotes on Dickerson are from Reds' MLB.com beat writer Mark Sheldon's blog: And Sheldon now has a blog post on the deal: While it was only 55 PAs, Dickerson obliterated AAA pitching to the tune of a nearly 1.300 OPS in his rehab stint. Probably safe to say he's back to full health.
  12. Funny, BUC, I had that thought during yesterday's game, too. He just appears a lot more comfortable & fluid in the field lately to me.
  13. I agree that the season really can't avoid being a disappointment at this point, but it'll be much less disappointing if the following -- "Get Gamel up in September and find as many ways to get him into the lineup as possible" -- isn't too much of a zim-zam for Macha. I'm looking forward to seeing the young arms you mentioned (Rogers, Rivas, Butler, Jeffress) get more than just minimal duty, which again goes back to the zim-zammy-ness of the situation. Hoping Macha proves me wrong for being concerned.

"N" = no decision above, if that wasn't clear.
  15. Covey was compared to Cain; Tyler Thornburg (4th round) was the one that got the Lincecum comp(s)
  16. A week ago, they were 10 under .500. Now they're back to 6 under. Next up is Arizona. Taking 3 out of 4 from them is possible, maybe even a sweep, if the Brewers play as well as they're capable of playing. . . . Sure, it might not happen. But it might. They're in a stretch of a lot of games against non-dominant teams. I think the alternating sweeps by the Astros and now the Brewers is a good microcosm for this season. The team is capable of being a dominant force offensively, but lacks the pitching necessary to truly contend.
  17. What about a Mike Cameron comp.? Not sure if Cain could ever be as good defensively, but he's built similarly to Mike.
  18. Made me smile to think of Hamilton again. I loved him when he was with the Brewers. And like others have said, if Cain can match Darryl's career, we should be thrilled.
  19. I can't wait to see him in Milwaukee this September.
  20. That's just over-the-top. Why the need to be at DEFCON 2 on this? Who has ever posted "there's never any good pitching available in trade", anyway?
  21. Hilarious thread title, well done
  22. And if that contending team were the Padres, it would be the ultimate feel-good story.
  23. The Isom scouting reports absolutely make these "Getting to know..." features. I love his candor & objectivity.
