  1. The pictures in that blog post are really cool. I'm pretty sure that's Melvin in the gray top -- http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/assets_c/2010/03/Dominican%202010-thumb-550x412-1846071.jpg

  3. I wonder if any top prospect will ever go the Brandon Jennings route... go play in, say, Japan for a year. I wonder if Boras (or any other agent) has ever tried to convince any prospect to do that.
  4. Link (likely NSFW language in the linked article)
  5. I agree that he should start the season in AAA. My concern is that if he shows he's ready for the bigs, is he going to get a fair shot with this organization?
  6. I don't know how I forgot Weeks in my lead post. Glad others have mentioned him.
  7. I really feel the comments on Gamel being poor on defense are way overstated. He routinely shows plus range & a plus arm -- I think it looks like he can play 3B & play it well. So he takes a ball off his shin -- so what? Is that different from other defenders? Does it mean something more than McGehee making an error, or simply not having enough range to get to balls that Gamel can? Imo this is something that just haunts Gamel. He was a bad defender, and now that stigma just follows him around -- whether it be from fans or prospect experts (who propagate this kind of labeling of players). Meanwhile, he has actually made fantastic strides with the leather, but I guess he's going to have to shed the label with a full season of solid D. This describes McGehee well even now. The fact that the Brewers want to give the player with lower upside more opportunity is what frustrates me about this situation.
  8. Yep... definitely my biggest concern in not wanting a player. Also some bad character guys on that list, though. He's such a tool... I just can't stand him. I even agree with you that he's a solid catcher -- probably the only guy on my list for whom I value 'toolishness' over production.
  9. The funny thing to me is what a lightning rod the Cubs & their fans use him as. The guy still OBP'd nearly .380 in a down season. But yeah, he was your big problem, not Soto, or Fontenot, or Theriot, or Soriano. Yep, it was the guy with the third-highest OBP on your team. Clearly his clubhouse canceritis caused all four of those guys to suck.
  10. I really don't intend this as mean-spirited, I just found it funny & kinda ironic -- like Pointer noted, it's spelled "Zobrist" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I agree with stoutdude on Napoli, even if he doesn't really have the arm you want from a catcher. Interesting. I think Werth, Kemp, & Tulo are on the verge of superstardom, but not there yet, as I agree with Baldkin that the definition is pretty much 'can you identify this person' from a picture. I think most diehard baseball fans know everyone in this thread, but most baseball fans overall wouldn't. I've never really considered Crawford or Figgins good enough to be superstars. Uggla just plays in such relative anonymity with the Marlins imo... maybe I've just overestimated that. I have to admit one reason I love him is the Marlins' TV guys' home run call for him -- "His name is DAN UGGLA!" That's probably my favorite HR call.
  11. IIRoss's thread got me thinking about this. I realize the non-superstar designation can be pretty subjective, but it should be pretty easy to discern in most cases. My first three: Matt Kemp, Dan Uggla & Troy Tulowitzki
  12. A.J. Pierzynski Gary Sheffield Jason Kendall Andruw Jones Gary Matthews, Jr. Johnny Estrada Brett Myers Livan Hernandez Elijah Dukes
  13. Nice to see MU hang on. I'd love to see them knock off 'Nova
  14. Morales is an interesting nugget, thanks for pointing him out. Aside from the (almost complete) lack of power, he's only thrown out 23% of basestealers in his minor league career -- I read that he's a converted second baseman. He had wrist surgery back in January, & left ankle sprains hampered him in '07 & '08, so it'll be interesting to see how he fares this season.
  15. I may be just missing something obvious here, but what does the Marlins' payroll & revenue sharing income have to do with Tampa?
  16. Didn't see the game, but saw Bogut's massive posterizing-facial dunk on SportsCenter's top 10. That was awesome!
  17. Happened again today... same as last time
  18. Also, is it wrong of me to want Suppan to get hammered in spring so he possibly wouldn't start the season in the rotation? A little, but not really. I feel the same way.
  19. In a perfect world, Bush & Parra would be 4-5... and I think there's a very good chance that happens this season. Although Haudricourt commented that he felt Suppan's contract would mean he'll be in the rotation, I don't think that's how Melvin is approaching this season at all.
  20. It would just take a lot for Suppan to be ahead of him. There's really nothing to indicate that we should be concerned about Dave Bush. I fully expect him to pitch to his career norms this season, which would easily keep him ahead of Soup.
  21. I might be overreacting, but I'm concerned about Gamel. His shoulder soreness has persisted, and the thought is he didn't give himself enough time off. He will be out "a few more days" Link
  22. I like Friedman for more than the Rays' rise from the cellar. Imo he's operated very well so far in both trades & FA. I think that if there's anyone that can sustain success in Tampa, it's him.
  23. I don't think I said it at the beginning of the year but I could see where someone would have said it. Reply #32... it wasn't you, MJ http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
