  1. I'd think the scar tissue will have to break up this time, just like last time. I just hope fans don't jump all over him if he is struggling early on. The timetable for his procedure last time was one year, and his performance really reflected that. He had his surgery last year on May 19th, which should mean he'll be fully recovered come this June. I wonder if he'll need to have a procedure again to remove scar tissue.
  2. My tin-foil-hat theory is that Yo & his representation wanted a multi-year deal instead of a one-year deal, and the Brewers didn't want to commit to that just yet. I have absolutely nothing to back that up.
  3. He was incredible tonight... but Iowa was dreadful. 18 points on 8/9 shooting. Gotta love that. This game & performance by Leuer really makes you feel like the team is getting the gears oiled up very well at the right time.
  4. I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with Boise -- Austin just rocks. Plus, GAME said he wanted to get away from winter http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  5. This shouldn't even be a question... Austin by a mile
  6. That's one thing I always wonder about prospect experts. Even if they'd spend 365 days a year on the road, they'd only be able to see the top prospects a handful of times.
  7. I heard Villanueva lost like 20 pounds this off-season as well. That's interesting -- when I saw this pic of Villy in the JS photo gallery, I thought to myself that he looked like he'd slimmed down. http://media.jsonline.com/images/416*600/carlos022610.jpg That's what all young baseball players used to look like before the 1990's. No, it's not. It's what young baseball players with slender, lanky frames looked like.
  8. I would vote for bumper curling
  9. Link Buys out two of Upton's FA seasons (here's the link to Cot's D-Backs page)
  10. I know from my own experience that sometimes contact lenses don't agree with the wearer. My allergies would sometimes manifest themselves with little bumps on my eyes (not dissimilar to 'goose bumps') that'd make the lenses catch each time I'd blink. I think my eye doctor called the bumps pepillae. What I'm confused about is why he wouldn't opt for Lasik surgery.
  11. I know TheCrew07 has made this point before, but judging from Escobar's frame, he should really be able to put on some more muscle without hampering his athleticism & speed. I'm no physiologist, but another ~15 lbs. really doesn't seem out of the question. While he won't hit for much power now, I don't think projecting him to hit 20 HRs or more down the road is out of the question. http://media.jsonline.com/images/360*600/mjs-brewers-spring-trainingg(2).jpg Some (JS) photo evidence to support my claim -- he really has some broad shoulders
  12. A couple from the JS's photo gallery... http://media.jsonline.com/images/414*600/brewers-spring-trainingf.jpg http://media.jsonline.com/images/432*600/brewers-spring-trainingc.jpg That's the first pic I've seen of Gomez in a Brewers uni (there's another one of him practicing bunting in the gallery)
  13. His career park-adjusted minor league line is .278/.336/.409/.745. Like logan noted, that kind of line wouldn't even really inspire confidence in an 'up-the-middle' player (unless he were young for each MiLB level). Maybe endaround's word choice doesn't suit you, but there's a reason McGehee wasn't considered much of a prospect. To hit well, does he need a .400 OBP? Are you thinking higher than that? You seem to be arguing for the sake of arguing.
  14. How are you defining "hitting in the minors"? Can you provide some examples of guys that OPS-ed in the mid-.700s in the minors & developed into solid, regular performers at the MLB level? Fwiw, year by year, McGehee's park-adjusted minor league OPSes were 2005: .767 2006: .727 2007: .730 2008: .754 He didn't SLG well, nor did he get on base well -- how is anyone off-base to say that he didn't hit well in the minors?
  15. That's from the McGehee thread. I can't quite put into words how excited I am for Weeks this season. Although I'm not sure the context of TH's quote -- did he mean Rickie looks good physically (which is apparent from pictures), or that he's looked good in terms of performance/workouts/BP?
  16. I think McGehee looks just like he did last season too. I don't expect McGehee to be the Brewers long term solution at 3B, but if he plays well all this season at 3B and Gamel stays in AAA, I'm not going to cry about it. I suspect others on here will have a different opinion, though. I'd be very pleasantly surprised if Macha ranks Gamel ahead of McGehee, but I doubt that will happen. I'm certainly not going to "cry about it." The way I expect things to play out this season is for McGehee to be the starting 3B, with Gamel at AAA. I think McGehee will hit closer to a .750 OPS & Gamel will eventually be called up to replace him as the starter at 3B.
  17. Link Those are McGehee's minor league stats. They are not particularly impressive in any way, even when park-adjusted. He was old(er) for most levels, and never posted even an .800 OPS. His UZR/150 in 2009 was -17.7 (with 0.0 being average) -- but he has the reputation of being a solid or average defender, so I'm assuming his knee really limited him on defense. I'd expect average defense from him at 3B when healthy. 2009 was his first season of displaying any kind of above-average hitting ability, so regardless of what his name is, or who might be competing with him for the 3B job, I am wary of believing that 2009 unveiled his true talent level. Link Those are Gamel's minor league stats (be sure to click on "Career Stats" for a direct season-by-season comparison). Even when you park-adjust, he's had far better success as a hitter, and has been younger than McGehee at every level. In a very tiny sample, Gamel's MLB UZR/150 in '09 was -2.7. He has the reputation for having been bad in terms of his footwork on defense, but has a plus arm & plus range. He appeared to show progress on defense from '08 to '09, and certainly flashed both plus tools at the MLB level. The jury is still out on his defense, but I believe his tools will translate as he works more & more, esp. with Willie Randolph. Aside from my opinions on their defense (& the defensive reputations both players have), and my concern over whether or not '09 showed McGehee's new true talent level, everything I posted above is simple fact, and freely available to anyone that wants to seek it out. When *I* examine the two players, I believe Gamel will be the better player because I see a lot of evidence to back that up. It's not about 'hating' McGehee, it's about how I interpret their production to date combined with their physical tools.
  18. I think Escobar will have the better AVG, but Gomez will be better in the other categories
  19. "Odd" isn't the word I'd use. Crass, insulting, and flatout disrespectful would be words I'd use. At least The Marriage Ref was funny, though Good grief... that show was even worse than I'd expected -- and I'd expected "bad"
  20. I think one thing that some are overlooking wrt to "Best Picture" status is that the filmmaking itself has to be factored in imho. I have to think the Academy considers not only *what* the film is as a finished product, but also *how* said finished product was made.
  21. I thought the bit that Witrado had on Dillard's Harry Caray impression in the clubhouse was great -- exactly the kind of nugget the fans don't get to see first-hand. I was critical of them for not getting a post on the blog about pitchers' workouts on the first day of ST, but since then they've definitely been providing a lot of content. With two reporters down there, I expect they'll be able to continue to provide a lot of stuff.
  22. Han: "Hey! Hey!" Luke: "I knew you'd come back -- I just knew it!" Han: "Well, I wasn't gonna let you get all the credit and take all the reward" Leia: "I knew there was more to you than money!" *vomits*
  23. Is that Braddock talking with Salome in the background of the Cappy picture?
