  2. When ESPN thinks you harassed someone you get sent to MLB Network, not suspended. He hits it high... he hits it deep... Very nicely played, thebruce http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I don't need a scouting report to tell me that 88 errors in 334 minor league games at third and a career .897 fielding percentage aren't the numbers good fielders put up. He's pretty "Gamel like" in that he was horrendous in 2007, when he made 38 errors in 108 games and he's improved from awful to well below average since. I don't have a link but baseball-reference has the numbers. From NievesNoNO's link: The good news, aside from Bell’s ability to rake as a lefthanded hitter, is that his defense has improved significantly since last season. While there were concerns about Bell’s size and ability to remain at third base coming into the year, scouts have noted that Bell appears to have slimmed down and improved his fielding.Managers voted Bell the best defensive third baseman in the Southern League, as he has an above-average arm, decent range and did a better job of making the routine play this season. Bell has become one of the best third base prospects in the game. All that’s left for him to do is figure out how to hit southpaws, be it from the left or right side of the plate. Relying on errors, especially at the minor league level, is a poor way to evaluate defenders
  4. Speculation is that Kornheiser was also suspended because he & a co-host of PTI joked about Berman's weight: Deadspin link 1 Deadspin link 2
  5. I told my wife that was like the 3rd base coach sending the runner home when the shortstop has the ball...only it's in Game 7 of the World Series. How is that the coaches' fault? Isn't that 100% on the skater?

  7. Bell hasn't hit as well as Gamel and he's nearly as bad defensively at 3B. Could you link to a scouting report on Bell, esp. regarding his defense? I'm really not familiar with him at all.
  8. NBC's coverage has been head-scratching at best. They have most certainly figured out how to attract the fewest number of viewers to their prime-time coverage. It's embarrassing, really, when you stop to think about their coverage. It's really like they tried to plan out how to attract the lowest possible amount of viewers. "And then, right when we've got an audience, we'll cut away from the aerials skiing & show some ice dancing -- that should cut viewership at least in half! Not to mention the fact that the games are being held in the Pacific time zone & we're going to show things on severe tape-delay. There's no way we'll have any loyal viewers... this is perfect!"
  9. Ok -- so today was the first scheduled day of Brewers Spring Training workouts. TH & AW both reported this morning that the rain in the Phoenix area made it questionable as to whether or not the workouts would take place. Now it's nearly 6p CT, and their Brewers blog has provided no update. TH had time to post the entry "Getting to Know: Trent Oeltjen" this afternoon, but neither he nor AW had time to post something as simple as "Workouts cancelled due to weather", or "Despite rain, Brewers get in first workout sessions"? If you're rushed for time, a simple "Brewers open ST workouts, more to come later" post would suffice. But honestly, what would stand in the way of reporting on activities today? You're getting paid to cover ST for crying out loud. Thank goodness we have Adam McCalvy, who apparently recognizes the fact that Brewers fans would actually like to know whether or not their team did anything today. Link, posted at 2:11p CT today (with quotes from Gallardo, Macha, & Hoffman). I realize this discussion has been just about beaten to death, but I do think the JS guys owe it to their readers to get updates like this posted. It just reeks of laziness & lack of attention to detail imho. Maybe it's my own fault for not relying on McCalvy's blog more in the first place, but that is definitely the place I will be heading from now on when I want information on the Brewers.
  10. Brewers.com ST schedule So far, the following games are being carried on FSN -- 3/8 v. SEA 3/15 v. CLE 3/27 v. TEX I'd bet more games will be televised, but for now that's all I can find. I'd guess that the 3/9 game @ CHC will be shown. Not sure about the other two against the Cubs (3/12 & 3/31), since they're split-squad games.
  11. He had me up off my seat numerous times tonight. What an amazing win -- outshot 45 to 22, but fortunately we blocked off our net with a heaping serving of awesome. I still can't believe Canada didn't come up with the equalizer in that flurry on the US end prior to Kesler's empty-netter. Ed Olczyk said it best. Tonight's game was "tremendously tremendous"
  12. 4. Angel Salome - Stout Power. It worked for Prince Fielder... I just want to see him get his BA back to .300+. And I want to quit hearing about his defensive inefficiencies. If Coach Steve is to be trusted (I think he is), you'll stop hearing about it this season. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif LeBat Blue This... I like this a lot!
  13. That's also from April 2008. Not saying he's necessarily done anything to turn himself back into a top prospect (he was available in the Rule 5, after all), just an observation.
  14. The thing we're all forgetting is that this is the classiest organization in professional sports. How dare we pass judgment on the moronic things they say?!
  15. Duh! Maybe that's why they hated untucking -- you can't stash your gun in your waistband if you're ripping your jersey out all willy-nilly!
  16. I don't like how the numbers & names on the backs of the jerseys look (minor quibble, I know). I agree with VLG on the hitting camera angle. It actually gives you some depth perception, which imo baseball video games have almost always lacked. I liked the fans fighting over the foul ball (~ 8:35 mark)... that was a neat touch.
  17. His defense is terrible and his arm is worse. I think he'll be the Tigers' DH. Guillen--Jackson--Ordóñez is the likely OF alignment.
  18. The classy Ryan Franklin has a problem with MLB's no weapons policy. No, that was not supposed to be in blue. Link
  19. I'll echo you three -- not big into hockey aside from the fact that I love seeing UW hockey in person. I have a basic understanding of the game, but nothing special. I'm super-excited for the game tonight http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  20. Did Nankivil get injured? I'm not sure why he didn't play at all the last part of the second half. I wasn't able to watch the whole game, but I'd guess lack of impact is what got Nankivil on the bench. With Leuer looking better, I'd love to see Bo run a unit of Hughes--Taylor--Bohannon--Jarmusz/Evans/Wilson--Leuer quite a bit. I'm not sure what will actually reach Nankivil, but maybe not making his minutes practically guaranteed will help.
  21. I agree with the previous poster who said that a big reason for signing Zaun was to tutor Lucroy at the major league level, and Lucroy should see 2-3 starts/week, which should allow him to continue to develop. With Macha as manager, I have serious doubts that Lucroy could see 2-3 starts per week, unfortunately.
  22. Link Seriously? A no-trade clause for this guy at 36? If I'm a Tigers fan, I'm pretty pissed that Granderson was traded.
  23. The Yankees have. Hughes, Chamberlain, Gardner, Robertson, & even though he's still a year or so away, Jesus Montero.
  24. Could earn $1M more in incentives. $5M mutual option for 2011. Link I like the pickup for the Indians. They'll probably be able to flip him to a contending team mid-season for a useful prospect.
  25. he belongs to the international brotherhood of back up catchers. IBBUC. Awesome. Ned Yost approves.
