  1. The problem is that Cam was still a top-10 MLB CF last season, and didn't show any real signs of decline. Sheets, otoh, had a very serious arm issue & hasn't even pitched in over a year now.
  2. He contrasted them! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Didn't see it mentioned here, & obviously this is a bit old, but I'm really happy to see Wisco in the top-25 (#20)! That MU-UW game can't get here soon enough...
  4. Great to hear Jeffress saying all the right things about re-focusing & re-dedicating. I hope he's able to stay away from the weed. However, I always detest seeing things like this said about marijuana: ""It is a drug. It will mess up your life, just like any drug. You may look the same outside but inside you're thinking of something totally different from what everybody else is thinking. You're thinking you can do anything that comes to your mind. If you think you can fly, you're going to try to fly. Yes, your mental state is altered, much like when you're drunk. But you don't think you're able to fly. That's absurd.
  5. Unless Melvin steps in & gives a direct order, Macha seems like the kind of manager that heavily prefers veterans. I would hate to see either Angel or Jonathan handled the way Gamel was.
  6. I wouldn't mind them signing Sheets that much, but I'd hate for them to add a top-10 MLB CF like Cameron.
  7. I think Correia would perform quite similarly to a healthy Dave Bush (& I'd gladly clone Bush, given the chance). Not a guy that sets the world on fire, but not exactly easy to find, either.
  8. We can only hope that after each loss, their clubhouse is as harmonious as Toontown freed from Judge Doom & "The Dip".
  9. Thanks for linking that, Jeff. That's good to hear. I really don't expect Counsell to hit like he did in '09, but he's a great IF reserve.
  10. The nerds on the various sites act like teams never get stuck with a guy, yet it can easily occur. You mean nerds like people with their own baseball blogs? I don't understand the name-calling.
  11. Pettitte has actually re-signed with the Yankees (not sure if you knew that or not, tb). I think he got something like $11M for one year.
  12. Well, given the fact that he was a MIF prospect throughout the minors, and only started playing the OF in 2006, you'd likely be wrong.
  13. I know... it's hard to take that seriously, & I doubt teams are. The way I read that from Sheets is that he's saying he's going to be fully ready for the season, but physically isn't capable of pitching as of now. Might as well use the Winter Meetings to get in touch with as many suitors as possible.
  14. I'd read that Soriano's projected to make $7-8M in arbitration.
  15. I could really see the Bucks leaving Milwaukee once Kohl is no longer the owner
  16. I guess it's easy to be a bit down on Green after the wrist injury. I hope he bounces back, but one reason I like the deal is that Correia fills a need right now, and wrist injuries can be tough from which to rebound (iirc).
  17. I can't imagine that we'll see another snowfall like this recent one the rest of this winter, so you might do well to wait. But if you have back problems, it might make sense. For all that I strive to be eco-friendly, there is nothing better than a snowblower when the only other option is a shovel.
  18. I guess at least they didn't throw $50M at Beltre, but there just doesn't seem to be a sound plan in Houston right now.
  19. Yeah, no kidding. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  20. That's from the Hawkins thread in the MLB forum (post #63), and I have to agree with nate that this is a good idea for both sides.
  21. Ah, thanks... I hadn't heard that, & remembered their rumored interest in past offseasons. Even without the interest in Hart, I think Melvin could have gotten this done.
  22. Link That's right, all it took to bring on one of the best relievers in the game (career 3.31 FIP), was Jesse Chavez (4.79 career FIP, for comparison). I can't say I'm not very disappointed in Melvin's lack of action on this one. Soriano, while pricier, would have been a much better addition than Hawkins. Sometimes I envy Rays fans... Friedman really seems to be a very good GM. Chavez isn't a bum by any stretch, but by comparison I have to think Atlanta would've jumped at the offer of Hart (& probably included a prospect or something extra).
  23. Don't tease us http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. I don't think Zaun will turn in much better than a .340 OBP this season, with pretty limited power. He should be an upgrade over Kendall both on O & D, but no way do I want him getting the second-highest number of plate appearances. Fwiw, his CHONE projection is .227/.329/.361. Both Lucroy & Salome have better offensive projections (& Kottaras's is .235/.332/.397). One reason I think Gamel is the better option at 3B is that imo he will be able to turn in the kind of performance at the plate that's well-suited to batting leadoff or second (not to mention the fact that he bats lefty). Even if the Brewers decide McGehee is the long-term solution at third, I'd even rather see him batting second ahead of Zaun. So with that said, I'd go with the following as of today: Weeks McGehee Braun Fielder Hart Zaun Gomez P Escobar Ugh. This lineup does not look very good to me. I think the Brewers are going to need Gamel's bat in 2010, so even though I think his value is greatest at 3B, I guess I'd rather see him in RF & Hart dealt somehow. But I have a sinking feeling Gamel will be dealt instead.
  25. I know this isn't the way you meant it, but Hawkins's stuff is precisely why I like this addition. This is a guy that, even in his age-36 season, averaged 94 mph on his heater. Furthermore, he hasn't lost any velocity on that fastball -- the 94.2 mph average from 2009 is actually the highest he's posted in his career. And in addition to the FB, Hawkins's slider & curve are solid pitches. This is not just another bullpen arm, he can really bring it. I think it's pretty exciting to think about having two or three hard-throwing relievers (Coffey, Axford) on the 25-man this coming season... four if Braddock gets promoted & used in that capacity.
