  1. Hmm... interesting. If this is the case, I have to imagine that Melvin plans on dealing either Lucroy or Salome (not that I'm the first to say that). With Kottaras either sharing time in MLB or in AAA, there just wouldn't seem to be room for both catching prospects. Do folks think Melvin already has a team or group of teams that are interested in some kind of offer involving Lucroy/Salome? Just seems odd that he'd potentially clog up the PT in Nashville so much without having some other kind of plan... but then again I'll admit I don't know what's considered 'regular' playing time for a catching prospect in AAA.
  2. Wow, Beerambassador hits basically everything I would've said. I have to disagree on the Book of Kells, though, since it's such an amazing work of art. In fact, I didn't do a guided tour of Trinity College; we went there mainly to see the BoK. Newgrange is amazing, as are the Cliffs of Moher. You really can't go wrong in Ireland. One 'tip' I'd have is to be sure to try the pubs in the smaller towns (if you're traveling in that manner). Dublin is an awesome city, but you really get a nice feel for the country outside of it. Sbrylski is right to ask, though, where you're going on the Isle. If I'd call anything overrated, though, it'd be Blarney Castle. You basically just wait in a long line to go up to the top level of the castle to kiss the Blarney Stone... which kinda loses its appeal & luster when you're number 100+ in a long line http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif But it's definitely still something I'm glad I can say I did. I have to share this story from my trip there (even though it's not going to be helpful in trip planning): I went with my family (dad, mom, sister), and we were eating in a pub -- I sadly can't remember in which town -- just enjoying dinner. It wasn't very busy, with mainly locals in there. We seemed to be the only Americans or tourists there. They had some TVs mounted on the walls around the pub, all on the same channel, which happened to be playing their national news program at that moment. Well, the lead story for that day happened to be a kidnapping. Did I say kidnapping? I meant horse-napping. Complete with interviews with the owner(s) & groundskeeper... it was really reported as if a child had been abducted. My mom & I only lasted about 3 or 4 minutes before we were just busting out with laughter, even though we were honestly doing our best not to. We got some dirty looks & unfortunately fulfilled the stereotype of the 'ugly American'... but to this day, I still smile when imagining Peter Jennings or Brian Williams leading off the nightly national news with a horse-napping story. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  3. I really don't agree that Anderson talks all the time/too much. All you have to do is listen to the other teams' regular pbp announcers around the league to realize how fortunate we are to have BA.
  4. Glad to hear there's momentum for expanding the first round to 7 games. There's obviously plenty of time to fit the extra games in.
  5. Am I reading this correctly? TH is essentially mocking people for speculating on a signing... but he's instead wording it as a "rumor", which implies some inside information? In short, does TH consider a discussion board thread a source for rumors? No one here said it was rumored, people just are guessing. Get a clue, TH. But hahahaomgz that Brewers official & your snarky style sure shot us moronz down!
  6. Can she come in & work whenever, & leave whenever? Or is it a set schedule?
  7. Hah. Hughes was just on fire, and Bohannon played a nice game even without scoring a lot. Hughes's teardrop fall-away jumper in the lane made me just shout nonsense. I really love Trevon, even though I get the impression he's a streaky shooter. But my goodness, did he put some moves on Duke's guards on the perimeter & driving the lane tonight. How about his crossover from the right wing, finishing with the left-handed layup after slashing through the lane? He's just a special athlete, and I couldn't stop thinking "sticky feet" was the best way to explain Hughes. Plus, as guards go, he's pretty strong. The ability from Bohannon to competently man the point will be huge, since Hughes is so quick & able to get open off the ball, or in case of an injury to Trevon. I'm ok with Taylor as depth, but not a fan yet overall of him getting a ton of minutes. I really loved to see Nankivil & co. down low asserting themselves so well. Didn't hurt that Bob Knight kept raving about the Badgers' post play, either. I really don't think I'm exaggerating when I say that I think there are probably only about 10 teams in the country that are notably more talented than this team overall. And most of it would have to do with having legit, big, post players. Bucky's defense tonight overall was just sensational. Don't know how many people caught the Illini's astounding comeback, but their defense was tremendous as well. The Big Ten is just ridiculous this season. I think the teams that wind up making the Big Dance will do very well, since seemingly every conference game this year should be against top-64 talent. Am I remembering it wrong that Singler was absolutely torching Leuer tonight? Bo noted in his postgame comments that (paraphrasing), '[singler] got some points in the first half, but I thought Evans & Jarmusz played him great in the second half.' I think I'd remember Evans's flat-top covering Singler so much in the first half, but of course memory is faulty. I wish Leuer could shore up his defense, because I love what he can do on O.
  8. Whoa, if the Braves viewed this as an either/or situation with Soriano & Wagner, I'd just feel bad for Braves fans. I didn't realize Soriano was hitting FA.
  9. I don't know the rest of the field well enough to do my own top 10, but I personally would have Arnett at #1. I love that we were able to get an impact bat like Davis, though (& get him signed), in addition to finding some nice arms.
  10. I wish we could get some info on how Butler's work with his secondary pitches went. *cough, TH/AW, cough* And, you know, other stuff that we can't just read ourselves or in MH's awesome daily posts.
  11. I took an intro mythology at UW-Mad. with (iirc) a Prof. Powell. He was kinda aloof, and it made for your stereotypical huge campus huge class. Given baldkin's comments, I must have had the same guy. Totally remember him spending time trying to make others look bad & himself good. But I love mythology, so it was totally worth it. Did I mention I love mythology? Well I do. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Like drezdn noted, if you would like to discover how much of an impact the Greeks had on Western Civilization, and dig hearing crazy stories about Zeus turning into different animals to seduce women, the class is for you. Zeus was one horny god-king. Ya gotta respect that. I mean, turning yourself into an animal? That's messed up.
  12. I can't believe the number of blantantly 'missed' calls that went Duke's way. Usually I roll my eyes at that kind of moaning (which often is aimed at Duke), but not tonight. The refs were so 'bad' down the stretch that I wouldn't doubt payoffs. And yes, I know that sounds wacko. But imho they were that bad. There wasn't really any one big call as much as there were (just based on my memory) 5-10 calls down the stretch that were either called against Bucky, or not called against Duke. Really got my ire up at certain times.
  13. My problem (as others have noted) is that I don't want to do another Sabathia trade. I just can't see any way the Brewers could retain Doc, and no way do I want to see the team pay through the nose in prospects for one season. I agree that the asking price has to be dropping, though.
  14. I wonder if Doug thinks keeping McGehee and Gamel gives some depth at 2B. I know most don't like Casey at 2B (I don't, personally), but as injury depth I wouldn't mind him. I think he can hit enough to make it work, as long as someone like Counsell's there too.
  15. I haven't seen much of Duke, but I think Bucky is versatile enough to give any team in the country a good game this season. The only teams that should really worry Bo a lot are the ones with legit bigs (like Kansas, for example). This will be the second game I've been able to watch (other was AZ), so of course I'm psyched.
  16. I sure think so. It seemed he was the #2 pbp announcer to Caray this past postseason, so unless TBS wants to hire another 'name' guy, I think BA is the logical choice. I'm glad to see it -- he definitely deserves it. I'll be one of those fans that'll miss him if/when he leaves. That's a really good idea. What kind of contractural things would stand in the way of that with Ueck/Provus/WTMJ?
  17. Oh, I wasn't doubting you... just saying that if he is (in regards to Replay/Officiating changes), it's not a good sign for someone like me that wants to see the game updated. You're obv. right on the MLB owners being resistant to change. I think if Henry's idea from kramnoj's post is seriously considered, it'll mostly be due to the closing sentence from the last paragraph.
  18. I'd personally prefer Harden over Wolf, but those are the three I'd identify too, MNB. I also think there's a pretty good chance Davis winds up with the Crew... as long as he's added along with a legit #1/#2 SP, I couldn't get too upset.
  19. I wish Melvin would've offered at least to Cam & Lopez, but maybe this is some orders coming down on the budget for '09 that doesn't leave Doug wiggle room. To be honest, keeping all money available when trying to add two solid & better SPs makes a lot of sense. I agree, though, that at least Cam & likely Lopez, too, would've been easy to deal. For me, it's the tools coming together. I personally don't feel that '09 was necessarily an aberration for Weeks, even though it's a small sample. He's kind of the opposite of McGehee at this point. Weeks is a player that was a top-tier prospect in the minors, and has the kind of pedigree where a strong OPS falls in line with minor league production & his tools. I'll freely admit Rickie's '09 isn't conclusive by any stretch, but I think he's definitely 'arrived' if you want to use that phrase. I can't wait to see him once he's fully healthy next season.
  20. razzzorsharp: As some other posters have mentioned, to hear Selig speak about baseball, you don't notice a lack of charisma. Or, believe it or not, even a lack of humor. I saw him speak at the Hillel chapter at UW-Madison a few years ago, and it was great. Definitely not what I was expecting http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I hope you're wrong, but my fear is that Bud was the progressive one of the group and all the owners were the ones who didn't want to change. Maybe if W comes in he'll be able to ram things through just as if he was still in office.... Sheesh, I hope Bud wasn't the progressive one. He made several comments that he had no interest in expanding instant replay beyond what it is now, so that's what I was referencing.
  21. Sounds great, Lodi. Wish I could go. What a moron
  22. Had the NG Snowshoe -- good, but very filling/heavy. Even for a winter ale. The Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale is heavier than I recalled. It's a hoppier winter ale, which is a nice change of pace. Not overly hoppy, even by midwest standards (west/NW brews tend to be hoppier in general)
  23. Sierra Nevada's Celebration Ale is as good as I remember it. Hah -- yet another that I just picked up. I haven't dipped into the 6-er yet, but I've already had some of this year's Celebration Ale, & like cj noted, it's awesome as usual. I hope you like the 2-below, Patrick, but I can't imagine how you wouldn't, given your comments. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Sierra Nevada is a brewery that seems (to me... definitely a 'seems like' here) to get overlooked. It's not a new craft brewery, it's not local to the midwest (obv.), and it's relatively widely-available. I know that combination has led me to overlook it at times, but it's really a good brewery. Their ESB is one of my favorite seasonals, and the Celebration Ale has rapidly shot up my 'Favorite Winter Warmers' list over the past two years.
  24. Tough to see MU lose like that last night, but it was great to get a chance to see them play -- and fire on all cylinders at times. I think LE is right that Buzz had better find at least a serviceable big with that last '11-'12 scholarship... but if he does, wow, watch out. I can't wait for the UW-MU game this season!
  25. I think you missed his point, LE. Basically everything 804 had to say about McGehee was spot-on. You're talking a sample of less than 400 PAs last season... I know you're aware of the problems inherent in that.
