  1. This is a great topic for discussion. I know I cringe when I hear people 'explaining' things using their baseball 'knowledge' at ballgames. That said, I also don't chime in unless asked//question goes unanswered//question relates to play(s) on field. But, oh! do I want to turn around and explain why a BA 6 games into the season isn't the kind of thing to get all excited about!
  2. I used to be on the "Get rid of Bill" bandwagon, but I made a point to check out some of the other teams' TV crews during the Extra Innings preview and Bill blows most color guys out of the water I admit it, I just go out of my way to agree with the 'I've watched Extra Innings, and Bill + BA is great, comparatively' comments. I love the Brewers' broadcast duo.
  3. To be fair to Daron, the home setting down in Phoenix doesn't hurt.
  4. The only thing holding Rickie back has been injuries in my opinion. The average leadoff hitter last year had a .277/.341/.427 line, and the average 2nd baseman had a .272/.341/.418 line. I'll take Rickie's .234/.374/.418 from his injury plagued 2007 over both of these, and we haven't seen the best of him yet. And the lawd said you got to believe! http://weblogs.newsday.com/sports/basketball/knicks/blog/revbrown.jpg Wow, great to read a new post like that one. Welcome, Darnell Jr.
  5. Cinnamon Toast Crunch rules because of how great the milk tastes (I use a lot of milk in my cereal) after you eat all the cereal. Wow. You win. I don't know what, but you just win. I couldn't agree more. If I have to list some (can't rank; would take too much time): Cinnamon Toast Crunch Honey Nut Cheerios Frosted Flakes Wheaties Oatmeal Crisp Cheerios Special K Cocoa Puffs (see Bret's reasoning cited above...mmmmm) Man, I love cold cereal!
  6. X -- No, Inman wasn't going to help in 2007. However, we found out the hard way that Thatcher was likely capable of contributing what Linebrink did. Thats what we're reducing the work of Jack Z, the true savior of the franchise, to. Luck? As I showed earlier, its almost routine that he selects a quality player with picks this early. Obviously we all love Gollardo, and I know you are extremely high on Hardy. To think 1 of these 2 selections will be a stud, and the other a decent player, is just being realistic based on history. No need for luck here http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif We couldn't agree more on Zduriencik's acumen, but honestly -- yes, it does come a lot down to good luck... even with a very gifted scouting director. The problem as...others have noted going all the way back to the trade forum last year I want to emphasise the "others" part. At the time, I was really geeked about getting Linebrink, mostly because I didn't do my due diligence in checking up on him. This trade, however, taught me quite a bit about trade value of RPs. I think Garrison + Thatcher would have been a fair price for Linebrink.
  7. I didn't know about Turnbow's injury, and I actually mentioned that I wouldn't mind seeing Derrick today. That said, it was very encouraging to see Gagne succeed today, after pitching the day before.
  8. Remember, we win, Ned is lucky, we loose, he is a moron. See, this is the kind of crap that prevents objective discussion from occuring about Yost. I'll just put it out there right now that I've been able to have many constructive & objective discussions with Yost 'backers', unfortunately all via PM. My guess is that I can/could with JJ7, too, since he at least takes the time to understand what I'm saying.
  9. Yes..everytime he is right he is lucky and everytime he is wrong it is because he is incompetent.. thanks for the clarification.. Thank you for clarifying that you have no understanding of what I posted. ... JJ7, I hear ya, but it's beyond maddening for someone that doesn't like Yost (me) but does his best to be fair about what Ned does or doesn't do, to be lumped in with some mega-group that only cherry-picks on Yost's failures. I've given Yost credit for numerous things he's done in his tenure here. So if Larry K draws up a play for Michael Ruffin to come off a screen and take a 3-pointer with the Bucks down two and 1 second left...and the shot goes in, that's great coaching and the coach should get heaping praise. Cause that's a lot like what Yost just did. Thank you. While it is a bit of a stretch (JJ http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif ), it captures the concept. A pitcher that should be able to handle in inning and he pitched in a very, very hostile environment based on his history. But Mota was showing every sign of not being able to 'handle' things.
  10. But the 'always wrong & never right' is the thing that drives me batty, jj. It's just not that simple imo. This could be a huge step in Mota having a productive year. I highly doubt that nearly blowing the lead for the Brewers will mean much by Sept... but that's just me, and I guess I'm wacky. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif the previous 2 pages were all about how if he doesn't take out Mota he is an idiot and in fact it worked out.. that is all I am saying... it is pretty bad when he gets ripped when his strategy works out. The problem you fail to see is that when Ned gets lucky, that's no reason to praise, just as if he were to make the strongest/stronger percentage play and experience bad luck, it's no reason to blame him.
  11. So complaining that Yost makes poor decisions is now akin to berating refs & coaches in 4th grade bball? Please.
  12. Phenomenal managing.. if everybody is going to jump on Yost when a player doesn't do his job I guess we have to give him all the credit when a player comes through. That comment is absurd. People prove they criticize the strategy, real-time, and not just the result... and here's a response. EDIT: And, fwiw, I think now is a great instance in which to utilize TBow.
  13. I just wish this team didn't have to win in spite of its manager. Sure, getting some help from the Mgr. spot would be gravy, but at this point, I'd take just non-harmful contribution.
  14. So does Ned have anyone even close to being ready to go? Btw, for anyone that loves to gloat how "Ned hataz just uuze hindsite!", tune in now.
  15. Ned Yost = has yet to show he learns from mistakes
  16. 3 HR through the first 12 games. What a bum. Clearly, he's a bust.
  17. already a thread that got moved on this. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. Prince is more likely to be IBB with Braun ahead of him than behind him. Yea, whoops... I meant that order, not what I typed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  19. Oh, and after the 3B ump incorrectly called a Mark DeRosa foul flyball a HR, Eric Bruntlett just came up in the bottom of the 6th... first pitch off Wuertz he went yard. It's now 4-3, Phils trail.

  22. With a 4-2 lead & no one out in the top of the 6th, Piniella just had Ryan Theriot steal. The Phils pitched out, and Theriot was out by two full steps. I think, on balance, that I'd take Lou over Yost, but one thing Brewers fans have working for them is Lou's belief, er, 'knowledge' that putting runners in motion > outs surrendered by putting runners in motion. He loves to hit-&-run, to 'get things going.' I have a feeling that wasted outs such as the Theriot example today, could help play a role in deciding the NL Central. I have many beefs with Ned Yost, but fortunately he at least values his outs. Sure, he'll mix in the rare double-steal or hit-&-run, but imo he does that crap much less frequently than most MLB skippers.

  25. I'm sure there will be counter-examples, but one reason to keep [[Prince ahead of Braun]] is to reduce the IBBs to Prince. Braun getting IBB'd -- imo -- has less of a negative impact than a free pass to Fielder. Prince has no trouble taking/working BBs, while that's one area in which Braun has a long way to go, and will likely not ever be better than Prince. EDIT: [[Fixed order of Braun/Fielder]]
