  1. No wonder why you two guys rip this deal, you think we only got 1 comp pick, when actually we received 2, both much higher than where Inman was drafted. Did you mean to include the "Yes" in there as though I were responding condescendingly? I asked an honest question. I think Melvin got owned on this one, and the draft picks really only can even things out, most likely. Yes, they're higher than where Inman was drafted. But the question isn't 'Inman's draft slot' v. 'these draft slots', it's Inman, a very well-progressed SP, along with two very good 'throw-in' arms vs. 'a reliever clearly not at his peak anymore (making him relatively pedestrian) + two draft picks that the Crew might be lucky enough to do as well on as they did with Inman.' Not only is it unlikely that the Brewers will find as good a pitcher as Inman, it's very very unlikely that they'll be able to draft someone that will be as close to contributing in MLB as Will is. Yes, we might end up getting a player with higher ceiling, but if he can't help in Milwaukee until after some of our young starts have moved on, then I don't think it was a well-planned tradeoff.
  2. If you have access to frozen or flash-frozen fruit, pm me & I can provide a solid ratio to use at least as a starting point.
  3. it's this idea that we owe him something because he came to work every day and did his job. Carlos Lee shows up 'every day & [does] his job.' Geoff Jenkins routinely put in overtime. I'll echo this to you: I can't speak for others, but I will be giving him a standing O. If you can't understand why he deserves one, honestly I feel a little sorry for you.
  4. Maybe not Prince himself, but can we rule out the ominous influence of Scott Boras? Geno, come on. Get over the Boras thing. Yea, an agent wants to make his player less attractive to fans. Oh, but I know! It's really part of some secret computer virus! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  5. I think it's much easier to believe that Prince feels comforatble in the role that he had last year, and is unsure of his role now. Well here's where I lose passion about a player defining his 'role' -- as I mentioned earlier, often times the player doesn't have the best understanding of his 'role' -- but specifically here, what is each hitter's 'role'? IMO it's unchanged whether you're 3rd or 4th -- work the pitcher, wait for a pitch you want to jump all over, and don't give away outs. Prince Fielder's 'role' is going to be the same every season he sticks in MLB. The walks will come, as will the power. A lot of the Yost haters will try to say this is Yost losing control of the team (which is always possible), but I really doubt it. Ok, here's more of the snarkiness aimed at those who criticize Yost -- where is this occurance, OOOverbay? Please do share. The blanket statements getting lumped on 'Tha Yost H8taz' at this point are... to put it most tamely... frustrating.
  6. I'm sure Dempster won't keep his .130 BABIP against all year C'mon though... this is RYAN Dempster! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. It's like he's reached mythical status merely for having played for a team that stunk and not getting arrested. Since when is that a reason to exalt his existence? Understatement of the week. At least be objective...
  8. If he was a real winner, he wouldn't have let Gagne blow the save on Opening Day and he'd be 3-0. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif I dunno guys, maybe Sheets just is getting lucky now... straying away from his true talent! He'z a loozer!
  9. well prince and braun obviously think it will help otherwise they wouldn't have said anything. But players don't always know or understand what's actually best for them. Often times a player 'feels' something is better just like a fan can tell you that it 'seems' like Rickie Weeks sucks. "Placebo" is a great descriptor/analogy, fwiw.
  10. Eric sure did just fine today, even though he just can't pitch on the big stage, under the bright lights, in crunch-time, when the pressure's on...
  11. I've watched Brewer's games where I was confident that the struggling starter was going to blow the game, only to have Yost's confidence in the pitcher pay off. But it's about playing the odds, so sometimes Yost is right, and sometimes he's wrong. My problem is that Ned has shown a serious tendency to not play the strongest precentage(s). Bush, for example, we know tends to do very well earlier on. There's nothing wrong with that. But hoping that he'll not repeat his most common results after 75 pitches is just being optimistic for optimism's sake. Even when Yost knows what the best play is, he still hopes things will turn out the way he wants.
  12. It's not really true that the best hitters make outs 7 out of 10 times. That's for people who don't understand OBP. The best hitters will have an OBP of .400 or higher and will make outs 6 out of 10 times, or less. Yeah, I think the misconception is that you 'have to' be hitting the ball to make impact. Then people have made strange assumptions that since your BA hasn't been .300, you haven't been hitting the ball. In some cases, nothing could be further from the truth. Old 'baseball truths', stuff you hear Dusty Baker spewing constantly, are imo simply assumptions that got repeated so many times no one ever really bothered to check if they were, in fact, true. Rickie Weeks will prove the doubters wrong this year. We've had similar discussions about Hardy, and basically what happened is that people's panic had to be quelled.
  13. It's not that people don't realize that; it's that folks then & now don't like the deal, not the concept/goal. There was plenty of evidence to suggest that Linebrink wasn't the 'star' he was regarded to be by many.
  14. Star Wars: A New Hope ... on Spike TV... didn't anticipate this.. assault on Death Star first scene I encounter... overload pending...
  15. Down side: Jurassic Park was doomed to fail from the start Might have been a goofy/sophomoric chuckle, but I still say 'well played', bbrauch.
  16. for me, he'd get about 5 more months. I have no worries about Weeks's ability to get on-base for 600+ PAs.
  17. (aside from Benny [and Gallardo] of course) Don't forget Yovani! And just for the record... when he's on the ropes, late enough in the game. to me, this doesn't also mean 'has previously shown signs of struggling in a game.' I think at this point, we have a pretty large quantity of Bush starts to see that he tends to surrender more runs when he's thrown 75+ pitches (not too atypical for pitchers). Now I know that doesn't sound like many, but he's been consistent in contributing solid performance over the first 75 or so, iirc. Since he hasn't walked many guys in his career, that 75 can be 5 solid innings. There will be some times this season when the Crew will have a 6+ run lead after 5, and to have Bush to eat up 5-6 innings each start is valuable in its own way.
  18. If this is old news, please to lock or merge. Yahoo story
  19. Welcome back Geoff! I got two returns of Brett Favre, one of Kevin Mench, one of TBow, and 50+ of Jenkins in blue before you get to this: http://images.sportsline.com/images/baseball/mlb/players/60x80/10774.jpg
  20. I remember that discussion, iirc it was in the 'vote on a t-shirt design' thread. EDIT: And I'm way wrong. Sorry! I know you'll get the answer to this sooner rather than later, though. Was it colbyjack or 1992casey that answered the guy originally when the shirt was posted?
  21. I'd be shocked if Vargas doesn't land in the NL Central. Shocked, Briggs?
  22. end did note that in the OP, but the linkage is sweetness. "I'm sensing a trend about selfish players -- they're freaking awesome."
  23. Seriously, give this stuff up. FtJ is very forward about his concerns re. Yost, and the vast majority of the time they are not reactionary.
  24. *Gasp!* Rickie Weeks... on base?! Man, if he has any power, this guy might turn out to be good after all. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. selfish, all-or-nothing hitters such as Carlos Lee So what, exactly, is selfish? Hitting HR or making outs? Clearly Lee is more selfish, hogging all those non-team-aiding HRs, but then also being so selfish by not making nearly as many outs as Podsednik. Lee's such a poo-poo-head!
