  1. -You start a post wondering whether or not you have an addiction Dang, I was coming here to post this... forgot it had been revived and not recently created. I'll agree with the avatar's. If TLB ever doesn't have a Star Wars one, I wouldn't know who's post I was reading. I almost feel like changing mine to a SW character to see if I can throw people off http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif http://globalnerdy.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/07/old-ben-kenobi.jpg "You've taken your first step into a larger world" Though I do agree with hawing, your Corey-spiker avatar is sweet! If nothing else, save it... but who am I to turn another away from the Force?
  2. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Wow, that Trenni just has the 'Sconnie boys eating out of her hand. I pity the moronic Cubs fan that chucks something at her or calls her "Tranny" this season. He's going to get a beat-down from at least 25,000.
  3. But the point is you'd end up paying about the same either way, so why risk it? It's just an unneccesary risk. And if you think Braun would even consider a 'hometown discount' with the kind of money he's likely to command, forget about it... just m.o., of course. EDIT: If anything, RyDogg, the way you say you don't want it structured is the way we should want it to be. Why not have him at ridiculously cheap rates when you need the money elsewhere (other arbitration, bullpen, rotation). Once his arbitration years hit, that's when some of the other young guns would have to be dealt off anyway.
  4. Ben Sheets is just as much of an ace of a human being as he is a pitcher. If he doesn't stick around in Milwaukee, I'll miss him just as much for who he is as for what he does.
  5. Is loving the Brewers enough to base a relationship on? Absolutely. If I'm wrong, I don't want to be right. I guess in seriousness, you have to feel something for sure... but then what attracted you to her (& vice-versa) in the first place? There had to be something initally, right? For the BF favorite term, don't use the small sample of one date to skew your perspective. Sometimes a date or even 'hangout' can feel kinda forced... try meeting up with her some night after you've both been doing your own thing with friends. One thing I always found to be a good barometer was to go out in a group setting -- if you can have fun with her & feel comfortable & confident, then there's probably something to it. If being yourself is how you're most comfortable around this girl, I'd say that's a really cool thing. Sometimes it takes more than a date/meetup or two to get to that point.
  6. That shot by Chalmers was one of the great all time shots in a final. Amen. I just hope I didn't piss of my neighbors -- I just flat-out yelled when that shot went in! Unbelievable game, let alone the finish. Poor Memphis... if Dorsey doesn't pick up what was like his 3rd foul taken out trying to hedge the guard on ball screens, those free throws probably never have to be game-changing. Either that, or they don't get slaughtered in OT. Congratulations Bill Self and KU!
  7. Billy Packer: 'Memphis PG Derrick Rose, will you marry me?' http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif I know Packer finds his one 'harping point' & repeats it constantly each game, but I've never seen him have such a man-crush before.
  8. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/8c/Racheldratchdebbie.jpg/250px-Racheldratchdebbie.jpg Hey, sorry to be the downer, but I don't know that the TV deal is going to be so big that we can start throwing around all this money. Braun is under contract for just under $500k for 2008, 2009, & 2010. Then you have 3 years of arbitration. I don't see any way that this type of contract provides value -- and that's ignoring the risk (albeit unlikely) of serious injury. What I don't like about an injury concern is that it's basically random. I don't want to gamble $15-20 mil. over the next three years when he's under contract for less than $2 mil. in that timeframe. That's just bad investing imo. Now if you were getting two or even three years of FA seasons, that's a different story. But overpaying that much for only one season? No thank you. Besides if the TV deal is as big as you're hoping, re-signing him shouldn't be a big deal, right?
  9. These contracts just all scream "unnecessary risk" to me. The funny thing about the Braun situation is that he is locked in -- right now through 2013! Why is it that people gloss over this? Coughing up an extra $X million dollars to me and risk overpaying severely for an injured player or a guy whose career ends on a freak injury or two just isn't worth one more year.
  10. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Yikes... I can't even begin to imagine what his family is going through. Best wishes to them...
  11. Cordero had one of the used-car variety; not sure if it was just the Madison market or not.
  12. Peanut butter jelly on a front porch deck! Anyway... I'm guessing Jaimie could find a use for the stupid white rocks. Finally -- something with which to attack squirrels!
  13. It's like striped bass fishing... you have to keep the viewers guessing!
  14. I'd imagine there have been quite a few pitchers with good velocity and movement on their pitches who can't always throw it where they want it. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/images/2006/04/02/s5ergou2.jpg Mongo like nice fan with good hair!
  15. Sounds like the other interest was what we had interest in doing, and Claudio had no interest in accepting, which was to stash him in AAA. Seems to me that his agent is advising him to hold out & wait for the first slew of arm injuries, when Vargas would probably get offered a one-year/rest-of-year deal by a non-contender. Just a guess.
  16. I've never had any eye issues before so this is a geniune inquiry; should a person expect some significant benefits, going from vision corrected to 20/20 vision with contacts to 20/20 vision after LASIK surgery? I always thought that the greatest benefit was simply convenience. Yea, rluz, I was just about to post this. I've had corrective lenses since I was in 5th grade, and as long as Kendall was wearing contacts with an accurate prescription, the main difference is convenience. If he was constantly getting dirt/dust on/underneath the contacts that could be a big difference (as opposed to just "convenience"), but a good prescription shouldn't be much worse - if at all - than Lasik. That said, I have not had Lasik, so I'd bet those who have can weigh in much more effectively here.
  17. IMO we do have the best tandem for broadcasting out there. I have extra innings and watch other games regularly and OMG some of the announcers out there are just terrible. While there are good ones, such as the p-b-p and color on NESN, a vast majority are increasingly annoying as the game progresses. Thanks for chiming in. Living out of market myself, this is the best way I could phrase it. I don't mean this as a shot at anyone, but it's easy to find what's wrong without recognizing what's right. We are fortunate.
  18. So "f/x" is just the way the ball breaks due exclusively to its english/spin? Or does a ball not "break" without gravity? Btw, the link didn't work for me, but that's essentially irrelevant since your explanation is very good. Thanks, rluz.
  19. Wait until Jenkins comes back... Oh, I'm already waiting on those boo-birds. http://www.militarycity.com/gallery/photos/sniper/sniper1.jpg
  20. If you're serious you gotta pony up even though the risks are greater with pitchers, especially an organization like Milwaukee which has shown zero propensity to develop pitchers on even a semi-regular basis. I think if you look in more recent years (aka non-Taylor/Bando/Selig), there are signs for encouragement. Well, three main ones, really -- YoGa, Parra, Villy. I think I have a lot more faith in the current braintrust than any that've recently come before it. And how many 23-year-old 1B have hit 50 HR? Only one, so Prince is probably more transcendent than is Sheets. This extremism totally glosses over the argument. It's that Prince is easier to replace than Sheets - not replicate.
  21. I know I've asked this before, but I still don't understand what the difference is between the categories of "Break" & "Pitch f/x". Both are utilized during Gameday broadcasts. I think I know what "break" is -- since I assume it's the common concept, but then what it "pitch f/x", and how is that different from "break"?
  22. Has anyone received a reply from FSN yet?
  23. no it was PIT, he ended up getting booed in PIT, it was sad because he wasn't doing that bad, was one of the best catchers in baseball... My fault. Thanks guys!
  24. He took a lot of criticism because the Pirates gave him a contract that was tough to live up to and which became a burden and because he'd didn't have big time power. But you can't blame him for that. Oakland was the team that gave him the huge contract, right?
  25. But his leaving baseball had nothing to do with whether or not he was good. It was just a new opportunity that I'm sure paid much better. I don't mean this as a taunt, but check out some of the other broadcast tandems around MLB. IMO Brewers fans are exceedingly lucky.
