  1. The odd part with TBow, though, is that his stats are skewed in terms of ERA. His struggles have largely been allowing inherited runners to score, which doesn't show up in ERA. Same goes for scoreless appearances, doesn't it? That counts earned runs iirc.
  2. NDOGG, my only guess is that the housing situations they're investigating haven't given them much hope to keep her. I really don't know, and have been pretty mad/upset about this. Hang in there bud. Thanks Sam, thanks. I'm doin' my best.
  3. Isn't Kapler's a split deal? It's pretty clear imo that it'll be Parra and Kapler/Gwynn.
  4. Thank you for all the responses. My parents were married for 20 years and all of a sudden I come home and my mother tells me she's divorcing my father. I did not see it coming at all. I was also in college at the time 225 miles away. That's my situation, except a bit farther away (not that that really matters). I think that's one thing that stings so much -- it's not a mutual desire to split, though at this point it may as well be, since there's nothing anyone or my father can do. My best advice would be to let them have their space and not try to get involved, because in reality it isnt your place. I've really been staying away from all this, probably to my own detriment. I still have yet to talk with my mother about 'things', because I am trying myself to work away from just lumping all blame on her. And geez, your dog even. You are really hitting the "loss" trifecta (not that you need to be told that). Is there no way she could join you in Portland? Would it be worth your moving to a place that allows dogs? Or is it at least possible for you to get back to Wisconsin for a chance to say goodbye? I really don't see how we could take her here, sadly -- but believe me, I've wondered any possible way for this to happen. My sister is living in Madison right now, and voluteered to take our dog... I haven't been able to talk with my father yet to find out why he feels he needs to make this decision another way. I guess I'll have to think about how or if I can get home to see my dog, and on a certain level, I guess this equates to jwill being 'more' pissed about his game of Commando. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Thank you again. It has been very helpful to read through your kind & thoughtful remarks. I will probably take you guys up on the PM offers, but perhaps not today.
  5. I recently found out that my parents (married over 25 years) are getting a divorce, and am at an absolute loss. What really kicked me in the gut is that they're now looking to sell 'our' house -- my childhood home. Along with this is that our family dog, an absolute joy, and one of the true loves of my life, is going to be given to some other family. I have no idea where she (the dog) is going to go, nor any idea who the people are that will be taking her. To boot, I'm hundreds of miles away from all this & feel even more helpless and without control than I would if I were still in Wisconsin. I've really held off on posting something here, as I don't want to drop my problems on other people, but I'm really feeling bummed right now. I'm sorry for starting a thread on this, but I'm hoping that even if no one has anything to say the mere act of me typing this out will be therapeutic. I honestly don't know what I'm looking for, but perhaps to just let this out. BF.net has always been a place I can go to help calm my nerves, so that's probably what's brought me here now. I know I'm not the first person to have their parents split, but it's the first time for me & I guess I don't know what to do.
  6. Was my post deleted? Sorry if it bothered anyone or was obnoxious. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/embarassed.gif
  7. Prince Fielder is too gifted & powerful a hitter to not hit at least 35 HR over 500+ AB. They come, but when they don't in the first 6 or 7 games, you get people freaking out. I gotta laugh at your comment. When Dusty came out and said that he didn't like walks "because all it does is clog up the bases" I thought our board at Redszone would come unglued! I think Dusty says a lot of things before he really thinks about he said. As long as he keeps coddling our young pitchers (so far so good) he can say what he wants. If you don't already, you should check out red-hot-mama.com. Really well-done Reds blog, with some awesome humor about Dusty from 3/31/08 -- this is by far the funniest exchange I've seen on Baker there: "Here is a verbatim transcript of the Reds' lone scoring effort in their loss to the Diamondbacks to start the 2008 season today.
  8. But it doesn't tell you anything about what's likely to happen in the future, like his good location/velocity/stuff do. Gagne at $10 mil. and not 4 years >> Cordero at > $10 mil. and yes 4 years
  9. Really? -- I think the gap between the Brewers/Reds is much smaller than the RedSox/Rays. I have a hard time seeing how the comparison works. Ok, but your comment was based on win projections. I think 96 for the Sawx is a tad optimistic (not by much), and 66 for the Rays is probably worse than a worst-case scenario for them this year. The gap btw. the two examples is much close imo, but now I'm just debating you because I hate your guts. Has anyone else noticed the title of the article at Brewers.com? "Cordero to Brewers: No Hard Feelings" http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Oh, ok, Francisco, it's good to know you aren't mad at us... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif
  10. Did you know 3 years ago that someone like Howard would get $10 million in his first arbitration year? I think it was pretty plausible that it'd happen. I certainly wasn't shocked, but no I didn't know what he'd get. If you wait a year or two and then do a deal with Ryan to buy out a year or two of FA, then the deal imo makes sense. To do it now as mostly a feel-good move doesn't imo. I think one thing that gets lost a little bit here is the non-monetary value of avoiding arbitration. Arbitration is not fun. The act of demonstrating a player's weaknesses to suppress their value isn't good for team relations. Teams are (and should be) willing to risk spending a few extra million over a contract to avoid that process. Doug Melvin has a stellar track record so far of avoiding arbitration hearings & going year-by-year with our players. I don't see why his plans would change all that much, unless you're getting a year or two of FA seasons bought out.
  11. Ann Carroll was horrible and thankfully she was not only replaced, but replaced with someone who knows what they are doing and can actually form coherent sentences. What about Jeff Grayson? Did Trenni have both of them whacked? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  12. How about 'seeing' Brewers-related things around your neighborhood/city? Mine are mostly names. For example, on my commute to work this morning, I did a double-take when I saw a van for "Parr" drywalling... or seeing a bottle of "Gallo" wine at the grocery store...etc.
  13. I don't think I'd ever heard this, but I think it's pretty funny. Does that make me a bad baseball fan? All I can think of is that scene from Apocalypse Now -- "Know that last tab of acid I had?" "Yeah" "I just dropped it."
  14. vaunted rookie Joey Votto is struggling badly Dusty was right! All those walks mean he doesn't know how to hit! (welcome, visitorsdugout -- great name -- and know that blue = sarcasm)
  15. Focus is on the pitcher, not his own offense. Kendall gives his advice on opposing players in coaching meetings. Glad SCY04 posted on this. I basically read this as, 'Good riddance, Johnny.' And I can't say I disagree.
  16. Hey, I want to share something I encountered over at the MadFriars.com forum. This is a quote from site co-founder John Conniff, paraphrasing Padres director of scouting (iirc that's his title now) Grady Fuson: "This spring, according to Fuson, [[inman's]] velocity picked up quite a bit [[from the upper 80s to]] where he was sitting at 92 to 93 pretty consistently [it's in the opening part of the San Antono preview]. Fuson believed the reason was he was simply fatigued because the Brewers had him throwing too much last year." The double-brackets are my inclusions for clarity. I have to say that seeing this made me both upset and curious. I'd love to hear some others weigh in on this. I can't post a link to this excerpt, bc it's in the 'subscriber' forum of their site, but I know they won't mind me sharing this.
  17. I love Ben Sheets because his personality matches his talent matches his class matches his sense of humor.
  18. Tampa Bay, a team with far less revenue than the Brewers, did essentially this several years ago with Carl Crawford and not only did they keep a premier player at a below market rate through most of his prime years But to use Braun as the example is totally irrelevant. He's already controlled at well below what you deem well below market value already, and would be almost no matter what he gets in arbitration. It's just pointless.
  19. You could just call her 'T-money'... it kinda rhymes...
  20. and the Reds are not a 66 win team. Neither are the 2008 Rays, hence the example. I actually thought it was a pretty accurate comparison.
  21. Congrats to Jimbo! Well-picked.
  22. http://www.cinemablend.com/images/sections/1722/1722.jpg Bad [turkey] -- mess you up! This is crazy. I've never heard of turkeys being so aggressive.
  23. I know Coca-Cola can be used to dissolve grease out of clothing threads**, and rust from metal. When dentists warn you about drinking soda, they ain't kiddin'! **I could not recommend this more. This is an amazing way to get food grease out from clothing -- just trust me. Soak the grease-splotched item in Coke for a while (I usually like to do it for an hour-plus, just to be on the safe side... I bet a chem. major here could help clear up how long is actually necessary), then just throw in the wash as you would any other clothing item. No scrubbing required. Oh, sorry for hijacking, aracko. I'd be concerned too, in your position.
  24. I am BIG on recycling and bugs me that some people don't. Nothing ticks me off more then when I throw all my paper products into a bin and I see plastic and everything else that doesn't belong in it in there, when the garbage bin is 4 feet away?!?!? Really, is it that hard? Hear hear! It's sad to me that recycling often comes down to people being lazy or not. It's embarassing. IIRoss, I don't think what you're doing is wrong. Many times, "legal" or "illegal" can be a poor method of evaluation. If it's biodegradeable, and you're being smart about the situations in which you're doing it, there's nothing wrong with it imo. sorry to the smokers out there, but throwing out cigarette butts out the window, or on the ground is disgusting and should be ticketed. Disgusting, self-centered, and evil. I could not agree more, j21. Obviously there are situations in which you don't have anywhere to trash the butt, but I think that goes without saying from jason's/our gripe.
  25. When you're at the game and something happens, and the first thought in your head is how people are reacting to it in the IGT. lol http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif ....wow, that was fun! Congrats!
