    This is exactly what I was talking about when I say Yost can do nothing right. This is the kind of attitude that detracts from debating Yost -- an 'I told you ya'lls just some haters' approach that seeks to find the instances in which Yost was unfairly blamed. Certainly from both sides there's unfair blame/praise, but to just seek out these instances, and then go, 'See? This is why I'm right' just takes away from objective analysis. A manager can be right & wrong... doesn't have to be one or the other. When you say "Yost can do nothing right" -- you always take a very specific argument made by one poster, and proceed to apply inaccurate generalizations that may be have been made by an entirely different poster Bingo.

    So, like, what's your point, trwi? This veers OT, sorry... Am I the only one that's really annoyed by Good Morning America now attempting to go by "GMA"? What's next, the local news at 10pm trying to pass as "TLN @ 10"? Am I just Andyrooneying it up?

    So when we lose, Yost bashers do use both of these and either way they are correct. From now on when you make comments like these, please provide who you're describing. My biggest complaint about being called a 'Yost critic' -- with which I do not inherently disagree -- is that I get lumped in with this supposed huge collective of people who only criticize him, and make sure to set themselves up with an out in either direction. I'm sure I'm regarded as a critic of Yost, but I also have defended him on numerous occasions. I strive to be objective, and statements that lump people all together in one coveniently obnoxious group don't do anything to further actual analysis. I think with almost any controversial Yost decision, you have people who dislike aspect A, others that dislike aspect B, those that hate both A & B, etc. This, imho, leads to comments like, "Yost bashers just want him to fail, so they make sure they cherry-pick anything he does wrong"... which is wholly incorrect imo. The biggest thing to keep in mind is that it's not that bashing Yost is cool, therefore lots of people do it. It's that Yost makes so many questionable/poor/non-most-likely-to-succeed decisions that there has been a lot of Yost bashing. I just think lots of people have the causality flipped around.

    This is true, but I'd argue that using a player's rookie performance as being predictive of future success isn't reliable, either (Fielder's rookie season is a perfect example). On the whole, through college & the minors, he's been right around the 1 BB / 10 AB ratio that's sort of the target range for MLB guys. I don't think he'll necessarily ever be a 80-100 BB/season player, but I just don't think we have a good idea yet, and don't believe that either his rookie season or the first 10-ish games of this season provide much on which to base anything.

    The first few weeks of a season are a really poor way to judge a guy's approach, imo. As Ennder mentioned, guys take a while to settle in on timing, etc... things that you can't practice & only come with repetition. I think it's way too early to start critiquing anyone's approach -- regardless of good or bad results thus far.

    It's like their new master strategy for seeing more pitches is to watch a fastball strike go through the heart of the zone No, it's to not make outs on first pitches. The odds leap largely in the batters' favor if the first pitch is a ball, so taking pitch #1 is just fine by me. Yes, the pitcher gains a nice advantage with p#1 being a strike, but it still makes him work. Even if you start 0-1, the number of times an 0-1 count goes right to 0-2 is pretty small, I'd guess... especially considering that a pitcher will be less inclined to throw a strike at 0-1.

You know, most of the thoughtful Yost critics I know here are way more than willing to have an objective discussion about the 'whys', but for whatever reason most times it devolves into this crud.

    For those of us who are eligible bachelors and interested in meeting women who truly appreciate and share our mutual obsession with the Brewers and baseball, does anyone have any good advice to offer? The more I think about it, the more I think its a must for a girlfriend of mine to really enjoy the thing I enjoy most. Any thougths? You might need a bit of good luck your way, but don't give up hope. My advice is to go watch some games at a bar & see if there are any nice-lookin' ladies there actually watching a game. Is it a limited search? Yes, but inherently so, given your desire(s)/goal(s). This is how I met my gf, though admittedly I wasn't out cruising for ladies... just sorta happened.     Agreed on the combo, but it really was more the physical side imo. AAA pitching just isn't that much worse than MLB pitching. Rickie got healthy, that's why his power returned.

    No, but given all the pending sanctions against IU, the last thing they need to do is not play by the rules and at least ASK. The rules dictate they do so, and I wouldn't be surprised if this does get added to IU's growing list of infractions Ok, I didn't realize that programs simply accepted sanctioning in not asking permission to hire guys. Thanks for clearing that up. Fwiw, imo, the MU - IU comp. is nowhere near the UW - Nova comp... though I realize now I'm just debating semantics.

But that isn't too uncommon in NCAA D1 hoops hires, is it? I understand and relate to your beef, but it just seems to be more 'sour grapes' than a legitimate sense of improper conduct. Don't take this as an insult, but when the choice comes down to MU or IU, that just isn't too close imo. I think Crean may rightly be called a douche, but IU didn't do anything wrong, and Crean certainly took a step up the coaching ladder imo. Of course, as a Marquette fan, I'd be hoping to see Crean bomb out at IU, and then be relegated to a job like The Citadel, or something. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

    If Badger fans didn't all but burn him in effigy if he left in that fashion, then I would really question the passion of the fan base. But again, I'm sure they would all but riot. Sorry don, but that's ridiculous imo. Especially that you would question the "passion" of a fan base for understanding the realities of the NCAA basketball coaching profession.
