  3. While that's true, I think you can also argue that, under Melvin, the minor-league depth has been sound (pardon the pun), and we're poised to absolutely restock the farm. Once the June '08 draft goes down, I think we'll have a much greater appreciation for DM the GM. He's set up arguably his best weapon with an abundance of party-time on draft day. Think Zduriencik isn't excited? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. Just threw my first perfect game, ever. Kazmir w/8 Ks @ Washington's new stadium. I only played the game to check out Nationals Park. Neato.
  5. Watching seemingly every Badger sucking wind 5 minutes into the 2nd half was embarassing, frustrating, and completely disappointing. Ever seen a press, guys? Yeah, they played their asses off, but it looked like they were gassed WAY too early. What happened?
  6. If Curry can learn even average PG skills, he's a lottery pick without question. Also, Davidson: 1... FtJ: -0,000
  7. He has had exactly 200 at bats in the big leagues. I dont think any one here knows what he is capable of. besides if he gets into a slump, he can call the best hitting coach around And there we have it. 'He's good/can become good because his dad was good.' Gwynn Jr. has done nothing either in the minors or majors to suggest that he's due for a huge improvement. He is what he is, basically a one-tool player (maybe 2 if you're feeling generous on his glovework)... a decent choice as a 4th or 5th OF, but not close to being a good starting option.
  8. Why does everyone on this board think he is not capable of being a big-leaguer?? First of all, it's not even close to being "everyone" - there are many posters here who have faith in TGJ. Why, though? A .272/.350/.344/.694 career line over 1850+ minor-league ABs. That doesn't translate well to MLB equivalents at all... which makes his MLB career line of .260/.317/.315/.622 completely unsurprising.
  9. Big Reed... utilizing stats to reinforce his opinion... OBP, no less... getting dizzy... need to lie down http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  10. I noticed nobody included cappy. he's injured now, but he may return later this year. Cappy is on par with Marquis. Ennder noted Capuano toward the end of #32.
  11. I guess that's why TooLiveBrew refers to ERA as a team stat. Not really - moreso that ERA is influenced by defense (or lack thereof). Determining whether or not a baserunner was "earned" or not can be a very inexact science, especially when there are suspect fielders behind a P.
  12. A 12-9 record in which he had 3 games blown by the bullpen. So that would have been 15-9. And you guys want Bush's 180+ innings and his 5.12 ERA? Using team stats like W-L & ERA will lead you to a lot of confusion.
  13. what the heck are you talking about? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Gee, I'm such a moron! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. P.R.O.C.R.A.S.T.I.N.A.T.R.O.N. 8000
  15. "Choate" is the correct spelling, says Mr. Nitpick. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Good point, Ennder. If I have to guess on Lee, it'd be .290/.375/.525/.900. I could see him lower, but also higher.
  17. Does anyone have a feeling that Derek Lee will significantly regress? I don't know what it is but he is on the wrong side of 30, hasn't hit a lick in Spring (not a big deal), and he really has seen his power numbers drop after that broken wrist. I actually agree with Ennder, and to (I think) a stronger degree. Lee's now past the one-year general recovery time for a wrist injury. I'm concerned that his power might spike back up into the 25-35 HR range, as opposed to the 15-25 range that last year might hint he'd slipped into. I don't think Ramirez's production will decline much, but I also don't think it's very reasonable to expect anything more than what they got from Aramis in 2007.
  18. Wang is the only sure thing pitcher they have right now, the rest is a mess. It might work out it might not but I could easily see that rotation missing the playoffs given the division they play in Sure, but Pettitte had similar back/injury problems last year and was still solid. I get your reservations about 3 pitch-count SPs, but to call it a mess is off-base imo. A mess would be what's happening in StL. Moose should be a decent innings-eater for them even though you're 100% right on him declining.
  19. I'd be tempted to go with "Deus Ex Machina" Couldn't do much better than that. Maybe "Arcadia"? "Foreplay"?
  20. I really don't agree with that assesment of the Brewers' staff. This year's version will be a nice improvement over last year's, imo, and 2007 saw pretty good production from our SP.
  21. Dickey looked pretty sound last night in the M's exhibition @ SF.
  22. There is no doubt that Milwaukee has more power than Chicago, and I think it's on the Cubs to prove they can score with Milwaukee, the same way it's on the Brewers to show they can outpitch the Cubs. To nitpick, the Brewers did outpitch the Cubs last year, they just didn't out-defend them. I don't have problem with people taking the Cubs. Now the Cubs winning more than 90 games is another matter. Yeah, that was my first thought on seeing the records "projected" (and let's use that term VERY loosely; there's absolutely nothing more than random guessing going into those records). The Yankees starting pitching is a complete mess. That's not an accurate way to phrase it at all. Wang/Pettitte/Hughes/Kennedy/Mussina/Chamberlin. That's roughly the same amount of depth that the Crew has this year, and probably more talented overall - or at worst, a wash.
  23. If the Cubs pitchers all perform like they did last year then they have the better rotation on paper. But the reason why they look better on paper is because of the Cubs' defense. For the factors a pitcher controls most, the Brewers were better in 2007, and barring some major regressions, will be in 2008 too.
  24. I didn't get to hear that - thanks for sharing. I'm kind of surprised the concept of "clutch" isn't yet more widely regarded as simply straying as little as possible from normal production. Sure, there are guys like Simmons who for whatever reason actually performed better (depending on how you calculate what "clutch" is defined by), but for the most part "clutch" simply means you don't suffer from the added stress of higher-leverage situations.
  25. I'm not sure why. I guess if you look at the grip he does make a circle with his index finger and thumb but that is about where the change-up similarities end. So it's kind of a splitter where he reinforces his handle on the ball using the thumb/forefinger circle? Would that have anything to do with having short, stubby Canadian fingers?
