  1. end meant from 2007 (752 R scored by Cubs) I might overstate this, but it seems pretty wild & irresponsible to 'forecast' that the same offense will score that much more. The Cubs haven't changed much - if anything - about their offense. Adding Soto for a full season (even if you believe that he can somehow sustain a BABIP of .400) just isn't enough to justify that. I think they'll probably score a few more than last year, but PECOTA's got something wacky going on here imo.
  2. Yea, the Cubs outproducing the Crew in BA, OBP & SLG? I don't think so. EDIT: Also, .281/.351/.449 from the 2008 Rockies? I guess I'll believe that when I see it. They're basically counting on Holliday to hit .340 again, Willy Taveras to bat .320 again, Spilborghs to be around .300 again, and that they'll get a .290-ish/.350-ish line again from 2B. That seems like a lot of hoping to me. Yes, the Rox play in a huge offensive park, but they give them the best BA/OBP/SLG line in MLB, and then pick them to basically finish at .500. I don't disagree that the Rockies won't win that division, but if they actually post that line, they'd pick up more than 82 wins imo. With Jimenez & Morales in the rotation all year, I don't see how they'd pitch poorly enough to negate that offensive line.
  3. I know that, in terms of so-called 'polished'/'near-ready' pitching, the top of this year's class is pretty deep.
  4. Hey, just a tip-off/reminder to anyone interested, a piece on Bill James is the 'cover story' for 60 Minutes tonight.
  5. If they knock off Kansas, it really can't just be called "hype" anymore, though.
  6. Booing isn't classless. It's a sign of passion. Yeah. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Just like humping someone's leg is a 'sign of passion.'
  7. Ryan Braun... #1 Stunna
  8. I'll never forget being at the game where Albert Belle tried to decapitate Fernando Vina. That has forever defined my concept of what kind of time to boo. Booing a Brewers player for me would take something intentional, like Sheff tossing a ball into the seats. EDIT: If anyone can embed that play, it'd be sweet to watch again. All I can remember is fans all around me jumping out of their seats, pissed off.
  9. What sucks about it is how inherently massive any sort of 'rating' would be. There'd have to be so many components of it, and getting them to mean anything when lumped together would be the absurdly complicated part imo. I'm sure we'll start seeing some in the next 5 seasons, as I know the beginnings to this search are already started.
  10. And the funny thing is that I still couldn't figure out if they were saying "slopper", "slobber", or both. I believe they called the person the "two fisted slopper" but then referred to him as a "slobber." Wouldn't it have to be the "Two-Fisted Slobberer"?
  11. Torre has long been a vastly overrated manager. The Leyland pick surprises me, though.
  12. It's an interesting concept, especially when you consider that what a lot of LHB see suffer against LHP is their SLG. This might be a great use of Fukudome's skillset, unfortunately.
  13. Are you signed in/registered at LL.net? That's my first guess.
  14. he is my choice here only because of a lack of better options--and i am presenting it here as a best case scenerio. I get ya, but imo Gabe Gross is a much better option
  15. Dances With Wolves? I really thought he was being sarcastic!
  16. The beauty of this now is that LL, BF, & the BPS are all on the Yuku network. So now, once you register (I think you still have to, anyway), you're 'signed in' on all three sites (& all Yuku sites) once you log in for one. Use the Labeauleap.net Forum Jump at the top of this page, and see if you're signed in, or if you can.
  17. and severely undervalues doesn't understand OBP. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  18. this may be good for him. Of course it's good for him, but it's not going to be good for the Brewers imo.
  19. I think the cubs hatred on this board make people hate Dusty Baker, that and the stupid tooth pick. I bet he makes a big difference for the Reds this year and they scare me as a team because of it. I bet he does too, but of the negative variety. Him coaching the Cubs or not has nothing to do with either my distaste for him, or the fact that he's a blockhead. Gobias - thanks so much for sharing that. Just goes to show you what 'conventional wisdom' gets you. Even before I read about the dreaded "inverted W', I could see the way he sort of snaps his arm to catch up with the rest of his delivery. Thanks man.
  20. For 2008, it'd be incredible if Brewers fans could STOP THE BOOING!
  21. Baker has won manager of the year 3 times and has won over 1100 games in his career. He is a better manager than Yost That's incorrect usage of those facts, though. Derek Jeter has won 3 Gold Gloves - is he a better defender than Troy Tulowitzki?
  22. You may be right on Wood, but Prior was the pitching coaches' dream - flawless mechanics. Baker is a monster on young arms. Yost really hasn't done anything for people to even say he is a good manager. I know what people are going to say, Baker ruins pitchers arms. Yost is a fine manager in many aspects, and the biggest one during his tenure here has been helping to develop young guys into young stars. He's been instrumental in the growth of Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, etc. Sure, he gave Mench some ABs in front of Hart last year, but Yost had an unfathomable man-crush on Mench that I don't think anyone can explain. On the whole, Ned is good with his pitchers during the games.
  23. That has basically been Yost's strategy from the get go, manage to how he hopes things will happen. This is the #1 thing wrong with Ned Yost the manager. Almost literally all of my beefs with him can be traced to this.
  24. Mora will need to bounce back and have a good year, as will Cameron. Neither has been particularly valuable recently and both have had drug suspensions. This misconception of Cameron needs to stop. The only reason people don't understand what a fine player he is is due to basically his entire career being played in pitchers' parks. Go check his home/road splits, especially while he played in PetCo. Mike Cameron is a very good all-around player, and a fine offensive player.
  25. I really like the idea of everyone settling into a defensive groove with TGJ in center. I really like the idea of winning ballgames, which is why I fervently oppose TGJ getting any more than spotty, 'giving off-days' playing time. Gabe Gross's offense far outweighs any slight edge Gwynn has on D.
