  1. MU 23-29 at the foul line That's why UK just suffered its first first-round loss since 1987. Well done Golden Eagles!
  2. "Bad gamble by Dominic James!" -- Jay Bilas I think you can just apply that to so many different plays with James...
  3. Dominic James - while you were flopping & sitting on your butt on the court, your man just hit a 3. Play some real D.
  4. Thank goodness for cbs.sportsline's webcasts of these games! I actually like it better than watching on TV, bc you don't get bumped from game to game. Go Marquette!
  5. Where you get paid way too much because you used to be really good! "The Reds offered Lofton a minor-league contract, but he wanted a major-league deal. The Rays offered him a major-league deal for more than $1 million, but Lofton wanted a salary more in line with some of his peers. Maybe he should just sign somewhere and prove himself again, but in Lofton's view, he has been there, done that, too many times throughout his 17-year career. 'From what I've done in the past, it should warrant me getting a real offer, a real understanding about what I've done on the field,' Lofton, who turns 41 on May 31, said in a telephone interview. 'I feel like I went out last year and did what I was supposed to do to show people that even though I'm at a certain age, I can still get the job done. Do people respect what I do on the field? It seems like maybe not.'" Umm, Kenny, you're 41, you can't hit LHP to save your life, your range is a shell of what it used to be, and your arm's a wet noodle. We need to get this guy a reality machine.
  6. Yes, he started to turn it around towards the end of last season, after what I think was a much needed AAA stint. But it wasn't that he spent time in AAA, it was that the scar tissue was cleaned up/out of his wrist. Rickie's health returned exactly when the doctors said it would over a year ago. This was a physical issue, not something Rickie magically figured out in his approach... which gives great reason to be excited about him entering 2008 healthy - the first such MLB season in his career. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  7. Happy 25th! I hope you enjoy your annual day off from normal duty... http://www.flixya.com/thumb/lexor63806.jpg
  8. Al Albequerque is losing to Baron Frost? That's almost as absurd as their seedings, which imo should have been reversed (Al is a #1, Baron a #16). Also, the fact that there isn't a 'submit all' voting button is exasperatingly lame. You have to go click each of the 32 'submit' buttons. Weak.
  9. Sure Roberts doesn't have the monster upside Weeks has, but we haven't seen it yet from Rickie Rickie healthy over a full season. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif All I can think of with the Weeks concerns is almost the exact same stuff about Hardy last offseason. Rickie's coming, of that I have no doubt. In fact, I'd argue that he's already here - Aug. & Sept. '07 were no fluke.
  10. But we don't have any real needs for the MLB roster, so flipping a SP for prospect(s) is a great idea imo. The Wayne Franklin trade always pops into my mind - though I realize the entire way that played out was a tad extreme.
  11. Gross out-SLGs and out-OBPs Gwynn. Yes they both bring different things to the table, but Gross brings a t-bone steak and mashed potato while Gwynn brings tofu dogs and grits. Bravo... bravo. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif gwynn doesn't really need a platoon partner. I don't know what he did last year, but I seem to recall his splits were not extreme at all. Gwynn has had extreme BABIP numbers in both 2007 & 2006 at AAA - especially against LHP - 2006: .406 (& .360 overall), 2007: .383 (& .321 overall). I think the only thing we really know from that is that Gwynn can consistently carry a solid OBP/BA when he gets a BABIP somewhere around or north of .350... which is obviously not something that's going to happen at the MLB level.
  12. "I think I've been called, indirectly at least, a small sample size Nazi. I don't have the patience to discuss with anybody who insists on using small sample sizes as the basis for their argument. It's dangerous, it's wrong, and you should never, ever do it. Let's talk about why that is. ... ...for any player, you have "true skill" and "actual performance." We too often think that "actual performance" is "true skill." That's incorrect. A player has a true skill, and he utilizes that true skill to accumulate actual performance data. But those data are only random samples from his true skill." This should be posted as a banner atop the forums... especially the bold part. Forecasting performance based on regressing to the major league mean is actually remarkably accurate. Projecting a player's performance by simple regression to the league mean is almost as good as systems like PECOTA, Chone, or ZiPS. Who knew? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Great read; thanks for sharing that rluz.
  13. And Gwynn's improving. I'd think that's also beyond debate. Gwynn has improved just about every year. Sure, he may marginally improve/regress from year to year now, but I think it's pretty safe to say that what you see is what you get with Gwynn by now.
  14. Were there concerns with Wood's delivery as a prospect? I know Prior was always lauded for good mechanics, so obviously injuries can slam you anyway, but I'm just curious about Kerry.
  15. I'm not sure that I agree that Davis would have been just as bad as Vargas... both give up lotsa baserunners, but Claudio gets hit harder. Doug averaged 5.84 IP/Start last year, which has to have a more positive effect than Claudio's 5.30. I understand that defense plays a role in how long you can stay in a game, but could IF defense alone account for a gap as large as .54? I know DD would've signed elsewhere had he pitched 2007 with the Crew, but I think he would have helped us more than Vargas did.
  16. No one's panties are in a bunch as far as I can tell. That trade with AZ is not a wash imo - and saying that is certainly not 'doom & gloom' time. It's just not an even deal - as some (not me) feared at the time.
  17. That wasn't political?
  18. By the way, at the end of this article, take a look at "Chelsea Lilly's" mugshot, she is near tears. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Jennifer Reik, on the other hand, took the opportunity to make it more of a glamour shots moment. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif "A nude person grinding on top of another person simulating sex is sexual contact, the [Police Chief Neil Mahan] said." Is that really going to hold up in court? Seems fairly flimsy.
  19. once again, remember that folks that retire from Wisconsin tend to move to AZ. Folks from New England tend to retire to FLA. Frankly, there's so many here w/Milwaukee connections that it'd hurt their attendence ? Why was this re-stated?
  20. All this talk about 11. Why don't you just make 10 louder, and make that the largest number? But Suppan goes to 11. *chews gum* Isn't it relatively clear that when a pitcher is just throwing one or two of his pitches, MLB-caliber (& just below) guys can hit him? I honestly don't mean that in a mean-spirited way. I'm not sure why there's confusion/worry.
  21. What about this comment? And Gwynn's young and still improving Right up there with '[Catcher X] sucks at hitting, so he's gotta be good on defense'. Gwynn's a decent choice as a 4th/5th OF, but should not be in any type of starting role imo.
  22. I was just trying to compare the pitchers involved, but you're right - not quite fair the way I framed it.
  23. I know literally nothing about Malkmus, but it was really cool to see just how well-known the Brewers have become! "Yvonni Gallardo from the Brewers, too. He's a great young player, too. I guess he's hurt until late April, but still." Well, come on - that's a tough spell. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif "I love Corey Hart. I drafted him last year and I [cough!] traded him because he didn't play for the first half of the year." "I traded Jason Schmidt. I got Adrian Gonzalez for him right away, which was smart. But then some guy who didn't have any pitching wanted to trade me Hanley Ramirez for Ben Sheets and I had just made that other trade and decided I needed Sheets. Sheets had just pitched that first game of the year and was on fire. It's so hard to trade when someone does that." "He's a bad man. He's a bad redneck. There's this guy that I did an interview with who covers Philly. He's friends with the whole team, and he says they're all awesome - except for Brett Myers. He says he's a dumb redneck." That's a cool read, and he's pretty clearly well-informed & a sports lover.
  24. But doesn't the question just boil down to... Davis + Eveland > Vargas? I don't think I need to type out my answer to that one.
  25. Nope - I totally agree mlccrispy. It's funny, I was checking this thread to make some dumb post about how Pedro needs a cape or something. Giving away all that great memorabilia & ensuring it gets to super-die-hard fans? Superhero.
