  1. The ad hominem stuff needs to end with this post. Thank you to all posters.
  2. You know, I wonder if this collision played a role in just *how* much SF & their fans hated the 'bowling pin' Fielder walk-off celebration
  3. Will it be? I actually haven't watched him pitch yet, but from what people have had to say so far, I really don't think it's a stretch to keep a lefty with a FB that operates in the mid-90s.
  4. This is one of my favorite drunkely-stated things ever
  5. I guess the way I feel about 1B right now is that it's not a huge issue as of this moment. Yes, our likely production there isn't good, & there's no internal help coming anytime soon. But there's nowhere to go but up, & no real impending doom timeline. I don't think the team as currently constructed is of a legit deep-in-the-postseason caliber, so it's not like finding that .800-.850 OPS bat there is the difference between glory & pain. If everything breaks in our favor this season, you have a Reynolds who could post an .800-ish OPS, so that upside is at least possible. But at this point, the team can take the long-term approach & look to find a great -- not just good -- option at 1B. And I think I'd much rather see them focus on that, because that caliber of player could very well be the cog that pushes them over the edge from being an also-ran to being a legit contender.
  6. I wouldn't want to add a backup catcher to bump Maldonado. I think he's about as good as you'll get at that position in terms of total value. Sure his hitting is a question mark, but his defense is strong & he's a young hitter with some pop. I think the team should just go with whatever plan their internal scouting reports support -- ST results shouldn't outweigh the larger view. And if Weeks plays well enough that the vesting option becomes a concern, I'm very confident the Brewers could find a buyer around the trade deadline. Basically, I want that to be a problem the team has to face. That'd be a win-win scenario imo.
  7. If people haven't seen it, Ramis is awesome in his cameo in Orange County. Here's the clip: It's not a great film, but the buildup throughout makes this scene even funnier. I'd recommend it overall... Catherine O'Hara is also great in a supporting role. Also has John Lithgow, Lily Tomlin, & Chevy Chase in backup roles.
  8. Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled topic of the 2014 1B position.
  9. I just wish he didn't have that automatic vesting clause in his contract. I can't imagine the Brewers want that option to vest, so barring a Gennett injury I can't imagine he'll be given everyday duty at 2B to start the season. Without the option, an argument could be made for Gennett going to AAA. With the option, I don't see it happening. That said, the Brewers' website had an article saying that he finally made an adjustment to his stance (holding his hands a little higher) and that could be why he's hitting. Of course, you see these type articles every year at this time when a player looks really good over a handful of PAs. I think the biggest effect a hot spring could have for Weeks is that it might up his trade value from "no thanks" to "I'll do it as long as you pay most of his salary." Which is funny, because one of the things that Sveum did as hitting coach that supposedly led to Rickie hitting well was having him lower his hands.
  10. He is absolutely nowhere close to Fielder in terms of hitting ability. He's probably not far away from Prince in terms of raw power, but yikes. Not even close as a pure hitter. Not "yet" anyways. Right, except that Prince was a more advanced pure hitter at a significantly younger age than Roache.

  12. Monty of all people here though you do know that was his 1st pro season after his injury. An injury that made folks concerned of sapping what was his true Plus leading to being draft Power/HR ability. I see 22HRs as being a good sign that Roache can get to the status of being his top 10 predraft ranking in 2012. And yeah the team is built around Braun currently. With Davis, that can all the more reason to make a position change with Roache. Since he's blocked. It will turn in to a reverse Hart. 1b to OF...OF to 1b. Roache is still at least a couple seasons away from MLB, so in general I can't worry about his position at this point. On top of that, as much as I love Khrush Davis, he by no means is blocking anyone right now. He's had a good but not great MiLB career, & doesn't objectively project to be better than solid in LF.
  13. His offensive projection at this point is good but not great at a corner OF spot, & when combined with his defense, he should have a lot of value as a RF/sometimes-CF (unless his development falls apart). I think his value in the OF will be > his value at 1B... and the latter is an easy enough position at which to find solid offense. I'd rather see the team get the most out of his value, even if that means eventually trading him. But who knows -- LF might well not be locked down over the next 5-6 seasons. If Davis doesn't pan out as an everyday player, then you have Haniger for RF & can slide Braun back to LF.
  14. Oh, I definitely remember the fu
  15. At this point, I'd be thrilled if that's what he is -- a more talented Dave Bush would be something like a #3. Another thought on why they might have made that move (though my caveat is that I feel your take on it is more likely) would be to keep from losing Tunnell. Other clubs may well have come calling, & although it's obviously far better for the Brewers to have him at the MiLB level, I have to imagine Lee's paydays are looking a lot nicer now.
  16. Principessa & I bought our tickets yesterday. Should be great. We're actually planning on going to all 3 NYY games, since the Yanks (her team) very rarely come to Milwaukee, & Jeter's on his retirement tour.
  17. Pretty sure I remember reading stuff from last season with Jungmann saying the Brewers specifically had him working on his offspeed offerings. But we should just defer to Law... he never makes broad, sweeping generalizations & always strives to be fully informed before spouting off.
  18. Keep it coming! You're a machine.
  19. Hmmm....I always thought that this was one of the rules anyways? Edit: Found these MLB rules from 2011: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/downloads/y2011/Official_Baseball_Rules.pdf Rule 7.06: NOTE: The catcher, without the ball in his possession, has no right to block the pathway of the runner attempting to score. The base line belongs to the runner and the catcher should be there only when he is fielding a ball or when he already has the ball in his hand. As I understand it, the "fielding a ball" part was always what got interpreted pretty liberally, allowing due facto blocking of the plate
  20. All I have to add is:
  21. I see a lot of talk about this guy, and he sure appears to have a lot of fans on this site, but I see no reason to be all excited about him... Like Gamel, he has a lot of hype, but never seems to be able to get things together. I hope I am wrong, but I have no faith that he will be of any help to this team ever again. I agree Turbo. I like Taylor Green a lot and HOPE he could become a true super utility at 1B, 3B & 2B. Hoping isn't reality though and Green is already in his age 27 season with a whopping 154 MLB PAs to his name. While he certainly has put up the statistics in MiLB, I just have no reason to believe at this time that he will be a significant part of our team. I hope I am wrong though as he may be a better long term option at 2B than Scooter. It's a good example of how relying on MiLB stats as a primary method of judging a player's potential (which is, incidentally, also a reason I've soured on projection systems) is a bad way to go. Not saying that you do that, WTP, just commenting. The scouting analysis is far more relevant.
  22. I just hope the team realizes that this is where he fits. He can be super valuable as a back end guy (if he can command his arsenal).
