  1. Well, fair enough
  2. I actually have the day off today... so excited for this US-Canada match!
  3. They're also placing trust in their scouting & development, which allows them to spend a lot on players' prime-aged seasons, as opposed to the model followed by almost every other team -- paying gobs of money to 30+-yo's. The Braves are a franchise I'd look to poach as much scouting/development talent from as possible.
  4. That's some classy stuff, Jack Z. Maybe the Cards will need to add to their scouting personnel when you inevitably get canned.
  5. Wow... seems incredibly malicious on Philly's part. Makes me want to know what went awry in negotiations. They could quite possibly have essentially ended Wetzler's college career, no?
  6. Numbers, from Jon Heyman on Twitter Link Link
  7. This is unquestionably the guy for me, relative to your question in the OP. I have really high hopes for Denson... makes me think of Ryan Howard.
  8. That's the right kind of activity for finding a job, as frustrating as that can be. Glad to hear you found some events!
  9. Seems like fairly classic Jack Z -- Step 1) Acquire bats, regardless of defensive abilities Step 2) ??? Step 3) Profit
  10. Horrible choice!

  12. I think that, for the term of any likely contract extension, Segura's athleticism & plus range will still feature on defense. I don't really think he's the .850 OPS guy he was in the first half of last season, but imo he's definitely not the .600-ish OPS guy he was in the second half. I'd guess he's a .775-.825 OPS hitter going forward. Combine that with what I believe will be plus defense (& obviously baserunning too) for the term of the contract extension, & I'd love to see the Brewers buy out 2 or 3 seasons of free agency. But if Segura & his agent weren't open to it last season, I won't be holding my breath.
  13. Interestingly enough, Devin Williams tweeted about this idea (roughly) just today:
  14. Hey, if he's still available & healthy enough to play 1B, I like the idea.
  15. No -- I definitely remember the same reaction... maybe 3 or 4 seasons ago at this point? Can't remember exactly when that was, either.
  16. I'm guessing many others saw this already, but Derek Jeter announced today that he'll retire after this season. What a career.
  17. He's probably comparable, overall (basically meaning OPS), to Gennett. Gennett's going to hit for a higher average, but Schafer will probably work more BBs. Maybe Schafer has a tick more power... maybe.
  18. His build looks like A-Rod's at a similar age... except that Lara's thicker. Not comparing their baseball abilities, but A-Rod is just the physical comp that I thought of right away in that clip.
  19. Great post, 'Stache!
  20. Heck, he hit 50 twice with that home park!
  21. Who are you to question art?!
  22. Oof. Arsenal just got sliced, diced, & humbled. Liverpool looked sensational.
  23. The article has him pictured attending a movie premiere with Liz Taylor. Apparently the guy did ok for himself.
  24. Are people completely forgetting the numbers he put up with the Brewers last year before being traded? He was pretty awesome, and while he's not likely to be that good again, I doubt he's as bad as the 4.5 ERA he put up in Baltimore. Somewhere in between is going to be pretty good, especially for a guy that can step right into the closers role if need be. I don't condone abuse obviously, but charges were dropped, so we don't necessarily know everything. Though I'm sure he did something wrong, we don't know and are jumping to conclusions that aren't necessarily fair. And the season before, he put up a 4.38 ERA over a full season. Like TheCrew07 noted, his velocity has long since ceased being an edge for him, & his mechanics aren't strong. You just have no idea what you're going to get from him.
  25. I just shook my head when I read that tweet. It really looks more & more like the Brewers are about as bad as it gets in MLB in terms of player development. Depressing.
