  2. What concerns me is that the Badgers' perimeter defenders look like they can't keep guys in front of them. I hope that's coachable, but for now it looks like it's down to athletic ability.
  3. This team is in a rebuilding phase and 4th is their ceiling in the division for the near future. The cold hard truth is that we simply don't have the farm system to gain ground on the Cardinals, Reds, or Pirates. They're already better, and their reinforcements are better. The Cubs also have a vastly superior farm system so it'll be tough to even stay out of the cellar. Barring some sort of bizarre circumstance where Braun plays like an MVP, Ramirez, Segura, Lucroy and Gomez all play like all-stars, Gallardo re-emerges and young starters like Thornburg and Peralta dominate, it's unlikely to expect us to contend this year. It's painful to me how much I agree with this. I think this perfectly sums up the Brewers' chances this season.
  4. The part in bold is what I was referring to. I agree that if the underlined supposition is correct, then WS contention likely is quite the long shot. That perspective -- that the fans have to be coerced about the potency of the team or have the wool pulled over their eyes -- is what I would argue has gotten the club into this mess. It's appeared in recent seasons that the club is fooling itself about the state of the team too, & not just the fans. When a club is run to appease its fanbase, it typically leads to bad times. Since the Brewers unfortunately don't have the luxury($) to contend for the WS without going through cycles of tearing it down & building back up again, I wish the organization would be run like a baseball operation first (as opposed to a straight-up business venture). The obvious focus has been on what the current or next season's ticket sales will be, & imo has been a big part of leading the club down.
  5. So many people here keep saying that over the past year. But where's the perspective on this? The perspective, to me, is that their 25-man really looks like it's less than 50% of the way to seriously contending. I get that you don't have to have 100% of your positions as strengths, but the Brewers (imo) aren't close.
  6. Yah, it's not brain surgery. Sorry, couldn't resist. http://i.imgur.com/sD6p9TJ.gif
  7. The one thing I want to see from the organization is to recognize where they stand, talent-wise. I think the Brewers have 9 or 10 players that would typically start for a serious WS contender. That's a long way to go to contend.
  8. Meh, it's minor league baseball -- sponsors change all the time. Money is money, and imo it doesn't sound any worse or better than Time Warner Field.
  9. Not sure if this qualifies as a transaction or not... Link
  10. Golson's MiLB stats (career MiLB OPS: .709; 2013 MiLB OPS: .705)
  11. Aside from Drew & Morales, are any others guys that'd cost their signing team its first round pick? I'd have to guess Garza would... but am too lazy to look at the moment.
  12. I don't mind the Brewers not spending just to spend in Free Agency. But I do think this team isn't going to be good again in 2014, & I wish there was more that could realistically be done to improve them asap. The pitching just isn't good enough, and imo the offense isn't going to be that strong, either. This has undoubtedly felt like a lonnnng offseason so far.
  13. That poster has him visually represented as at least 3" taller than he was on draft day. Strange. And that was a sick block.
  14. I definitely didn't expect them to roll Illinois like that. What a performance.
  15. Sounds like a fine idea for its own thread!
  16. It's not crazy. The difficulty of position changes tend to be drastically overrated by fans. I remember many fans here wringing their hands about whether or not Corey Hart could handle the 'move' to 1B... even though he'd played the position as a younger player. Now, I'm certainly not of the mind that Weeks could handle 3B -- in fact, the thought of him trying to make some of the throws required at the position makes me shudder -- but I don't think it's crazy to discuss players changing positions. This is a fan message board, after all
  17. Why discount the > 50 % of his performance that was great?
  18. I just am not as high on Thornburg. When I watch him pitch, I see too many similarities to post-elbow-injury Dave Bush. That said, I still wouldn't want to see him dealt for Ike Davis.
  19. MLBTR Link
  20. Translation: no club was willing to overpay for Davis, & the Mets will now quietly continue to shop him, but with a lower asking price.
  21. That doesn't really help the Braves at all. Why would they trade Uggla for Weeks? That is like trading a rotten orange for a rotten apple. It doesn't really do much for the Braves or the Brewers at all. Disclaimer: I don't disagree with your larger point here However, fwiw Uggla is owed a guaranteed $26MM for 2014-15, whereas Weeks is only guaranteed $11MM (2014). So it could make sense from the Braves' p.o.v., but definitely not from the Brewers' (esp. because Uggla is 3 years older than Rickie).
  22. Good to hear this. Good luck, GAME!
  23. DHonks loves this guy!
