  1. Or he doesn't want to pay what either team was asking for either player & is busy exploring options across the rest of the league.
  2. Smoak, maybe. Montero, no. The only reason Montero was ever considered a good hitter is because he was a catcher. His offense at first would be very average-ish. Certainly an upgrade over last year but not worth it. That's not true -- check out his MiLB stats, especially his line of .289/.353/.517/.870 as a 20-yo at AAA. Now, turns out PEDs were involved, but he was definitely regarded as an elite offensive prospect, not just as a catcher.
  3. Ah, I knew those snippets looked familiar. Thanks.
  4. I could easily see from Corey's p.o.v. the situation being that he made that desire to stay public months ago, & the Brewers pursued other options first. But the only thing that likely made a difference is that Seattle offered more money.
  5. Turbo, I love that you've been posting these updates in the Transactions forum -- can you please also include the links for said tidbits going forward? Thanks!
  6. I'll echo the relief that common sense prevailed here for DM. I do find it interesting, though, that it doesn't sound like the Mets are looking to sell low on Davis at this point.
  7. Just to provide a link on Jones, he reportedly signed with MIA for 2 yrs./$7.75MM
  8. BURN! That's funny enough that I don't even think I would've been mad. Sounds like it was a good tour.
  9. It's greater than 0%, but probably not by much. We definitely drew this go-round's Group of Death.
  10. While I can appreciate how you're analyzing the trades, no matter what was traded away, what was returned was all short-term fixes -- and that is always the core of the disagreement in this discussion, not how the players the Brewers traded away went on to do. And at the times of the deals, the pieces the Brewers sent were legit & not simply the fodder they've mostly turned out to be with several years of hindsight. In other words (for an example), instead of trading for two seasons of Marcum, the move could've been to trade Lawrie for a young arm that would be Brewers property for 5 seasons or more. Clearly, to Melvin's credit, in the Aoki deal he did a nice job finding this kind of an opportunity. I'm sure plenty of posters could take the time to go back & find a decent suggestion of a young, cost-controlled pitcher that Lawrie might have been able to return. Frankly, you could come up with a few decent hypotheticals if you're willing to go back & look things over from that timeframe.
  11. I certainly feel the opposite about the bullpen. There isn't one player currently likely to be in it with any kind of moderate to lengthy history of success aside from maybe Gorzelanny. Imo it could wind up being a strength just as easily as it could wind up being really bad. While true, I'm glad we appear to be throwing cheap guys against the wall to see who sticks than sticking millions of dollars into the bullpen for "proven" guys. We have no shortage of guys to turn to if some of the guys we have fail. I agree with this completely. I just hope they don't go out & spend on bullpen arms as the offseason goes on.

  13. Welcome aboard, & awesome first post!
  14. Breathe easier, Brewers fans. Link SERIOUSLY?! Guaranteeing him north of $1M? Why? I just don't get it.
  15. From MLBTR today:
  16. I would just like to add that the Brewers also have a Will West in the MiLB system. For some reason, I enjoy that we now have Will West & Will Smith.
  17. Umm. Not sure how to react to this trade. I don't hate it but I certainly am not thrilled with it either.
  18. I guess I'd roll the dice on Hart at this point if he'd accept 2 yrs./$13M. My (quite possibly faulty) reasoning would be that if he were fully healthy, he could be getting $13M AAV.
  19. There'd be no downside in picking him up... you'd rather continue on the 'Juan Francisco is terrible' merry-go-round? That's quite the leap, TLB. I would rather see the Brewers re-sign Corey Hart, and/or give Hunter Morris the opportunity. Gamel had more than enough chances in Milwaukee. I'm not saying it's his fault he repeatedly got hurt, but that was the situation. Fair point. Guess I've just sort of forgotten about Hart at this point... which is bad on my part.
  20. Semi-related (from the article):
  21. MLBTR link EDIT: Per Bryan Hoch (covers NYY for MLB.com):
  22. This is all you hear about this game. I really need to wake up & go get it. It's not typically the kind of game I'm drawn to, but 1 bazillion people or whatever can't be wrong.
