  2. The Sounds's site (top of page) banner primarily features Wily Peralta & Tyler Thornburg. For the T-Rats, my guess is that Taylor is on the site backgroud as the 'current T-Rat', while Nelson is the 'was here not too long ago & is now a top prospect' guy.
  3. The majority of players suspended for performance enhancing drugs since 2005 have been Hispanic players. I am not sure if it has any validity, but I know there is a theory that foreign players are typically caught more often because they aren't as adept at the cover-up given communication barriers they face in the United States. Like I said it may not have any basis, but I have heard the idea discussed. A couple of years ago this is what David Ortiz said. The hispanic players go back home in the offseason and don't know what they can and cannot take. If only players had resources like the players' union & legal/contractual representation...
  4. Sounds Walk Off Against Tucson, 5-4 Two-Out Halton RBI Single Caps Two-Run Rally In Ninth For Red-Hot Nashville Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/XdLjfP9.jpg Sean Halton (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) AUDIO: Hunter Morris RBI Single AUDIO: Josh Prince Go-Ahead Two-Run Single AUDIO: Eugenio Game-Tying Single In 9th AUDIO: Sean Halton's Walkoff RBI Single NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to record a walkoff 5-4 victory over the visiting Tucson Padres on Monday evening at Greer Stadium. Sean Halton's two-out RBI single to left off Tucson closer Miles Mikolas was the game-winner for the Sounds, who recorded their fourth walkoff win of the year and the second of the current homestand. - [July 31, 3-2 over Las Vegas, was the other walk-off on the homestand -- TLB] Trailing 4-3 entering the home half of the ninth, Josh Prince led off with a double to left before Mikolas recovered to strike out pinch-hitter Stephen Parker and Hainley Statia in succession for the first two outs. Kentrail Davis followed with an infield single that put runners on the corners for Nashville, and Eugenio Velez evened the score at 4-4 with an RBI single up the middle. Halton followed by working a full count against Mikolas then fouling off a pair of offerings before turning the right-hander's eighth pitch of the at-bat into a solid line drive to left to plate Davis with the winning run. The victory was the seventh in the last eight games for red-hot Nashville (45-72). Halton went 4-for-5 for the Sounds to continue his torrid hitting. He has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games and is batting .344 (21-for-61) over his last 18 PCL contests. The visitors took a 2-0 first-inning lead against Jimmy Nelson. Padres left fielder Brandon Allen (2-for-3) plated the first run with a one-out RBI single to right before Gregorio Petit added a sacrifice fly. The Sounds jumped out to a 3-2 lead with a third-inning rally against Tucson starter Robbie Erlin. Velez singled, stole second, and later scored Nashville's first run when Allen lost Hunter Morris' one-out single in the lights. With the knock, Morris extended his hitting streak to eight games, batting .333 (11-for-33) over that stretch. The Sounds continued its rally by loading the bases when Robinzon Diaz (2-for-4) singled then pulled in front on Josh Prince's two-out, two-run single to left. The Padres tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the third. Allen led off with a double and later came plateward on Scott Moore's one-out single through the right side of the infield. Tucson first baseman Cody Decker put the visitors back on top in the sixth when he smashed a two-out solo homer to left-center off the scoreboard. The blast, off Nelson, was the infielder's 13th big fly of the year. Kyle Heckathorn (7-3) was the beneficiary of the late Nashville rally, picking up the victory after working two hitless inning of relief. Mikolas (4-2) was saddled with the loss after suffering his fourth blown save of the year. The teams wrap up the four-game series with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Tuesday evening. Left-hander Chris Narveson (3-6, 5.51) will make the start for the Sounds. Tucson will counter with right-hander Matt Andriese (1-4, 3.98). 5. Drama in the bottom of the 9th in Nashville...
  6. The irony, of course, is that you've completely missed monty's approach. He (in fact, I can't think of any posters on this site who are) isn't an advocate of a black or white approach where you either do nothing or trade everyone for the (presumably) numerous offsprings of Ruben Quevedo, Alex Sanchez, & Wes Helms. Monty has repeatedly laid out well-researched, well-thought-out, & well-argued posts on why the Brewers' approach under Melvin & Attanasio has directly led the franchise to this point where a larger rebuild is the best course of action. But, you know, let's keep spinning these wheels where anyone advocating a different approach has to explain it six ways to Sunday in the MLB, MiLB, & Transactions forums... and then those who see it as heresy can revert to the usual retorts: 'You don't get it' / 'This isn't fantasy baseball' / 'You don't know what offers were turned down or what players weren't available ' / 'I guess you didn't like seeing the Brewers make the playoffs' / etc. To contend in the next couple of seasons, all the Brewers need to do is trade for two ace SPs, and upgrade at 3 of the 8 positional spots -- they totally have the prospects & cash assets to make that happen soon! Lather, rinse, repeat. This discussion on BF has gone almost literally nowhere over the course of the last 3-4 years of Brewers baseball. It's not even worth discussing anymore.
  7. I realize I'm not TheCrew, but honestly each time I see Roache in person, the more his swing reminds me of Rickie Weeks's. The HRs I've seen Roache hit are of the laser-beam line drive variety, a la Rickie's trademark shots. Roache also appears to be a bit of a whiffer, at least so far, and like you noted, TU, breaking balls/offspeed stuff still seems to be fairly problematic for him. Now, with all that said, it's basically his 'get back in the groove' year of playing baseball. I expect he'll be headed to Brevard County for next season, and it'll be interesting to see if he's able to improve his breaking/offspeed approach against more advanced arms. Defensively, let's just say... he's a big-time power hitter. He looks like a good athlete, but just not very natural in LF. I've seen him make some really nice plays, and some very Kevin Mench-ian-caliber plays.
  8. Idiocracy..."What's the minus of 30 and 20", "I thought there were 2 of you" 'Water? Like from the toilet?'
  9. Nice pitching menu today, at least by Brewers standards. Pretty much an interesting arm at every level!
  10. Who exactly are the people who are calling for the Brewers to take 'almost any pitching offer' or trade Gomez for the sake of trading him?
  11. What a gut-punch of a loss. Hopefully the Sounds can bounce back from this one... not that they're going to be fighting to get into the playoffs, but still. Sounds Streak Snapped In 8-5 Loss Nashville's Hunter Morris Belts 21st Home Run Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/bLkxoil.jpg Hunter Morris (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) AUDIO: Kentrail Davis Scores On Error AUDIO: Sean Halton's Sacrifice Fly AUDIO: Hunter Morris's Go-Ahead Homer NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds had their season-best six game win streak snapped Sunday night at Greer Stadium, losing the lead in the final inning to the Tucson Padres in the 8-5 defeat. Trailing 5-4 in the ninth inning with the bases loaded, Padres first baseman Cody Decker drove a triple to right field to flip the script on the Sounds for a 6-5 advantage. The Padres added one more run on Chris Robinson's squeeze bunt single to third base. Reliever Brent Leach (0-1) was charged with the loss, allowing the first two base runners on before giving way to closer Jesus Sanchez with one out in the inning. Sanchez walked the bases loaded to set up Decker for his game-winning hit. Prior to the ninth, Nashville had rallied from two runs down in the fifth inning. Sounds first baseman Hunter Morris crushed a home run to dead center field to score three runs and give Nashville their second lead of the game. The homer is Morris' 21st of the season, second-most in the Pacific Coast League, and extends his hit streak to seven games for the team's longest active streak. Nashville jumped out to its first lead by plating two runs in the first inning. Kentrail Davis and Eugenio Velez hit singles to lead off the frame. Tucson right fielder Jaff Decker misplayed Velez's ball to allow Davis to score and Velez to reach third. Sean Halton hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield that drove in Velez. The Padres got on the board in the second inning courtesy of a fielding error by Velez. With runners on first and second Brandon Allen hit a groundball that jumped off of Velez's glove to score the lead runner. Tucson pieced together a big three-run fourth inning off of Sounds starting pitcher Johnny Hellweg, who had not allowed a team more than one earned run in a single outing since May 21. Catcher Chris Robinson got the inning started for the Padres, leveling the game with an RBI double into right field that scored Scott Moore, who hit a leadoff ground rule double. Moore's run was the first earned run allowed by Hellweg over his last 27 innings. Jaff Decker added another Padres' run in the fourth inning with a ground rule double scoring Robinson for the 4-2 lead. Hellweg was in line for his ninth consecutive win and league-leading 11th of the year, allowing Tucson four runs, three earned, on seven hits and four walks. He fanned four Padres before reliever Travis Webb entered the game in the sixth. Webb and Johnnie Lowe combined to deliver 2 2/3 scoreless innings for Nashville with three strikeouts. Leach closed out the eighth inning for Lowe prior to the troublesome ninth. Miles Mikolas (4-1) picked up the win for Tucson, holding Nashville scoreless in the final two frames. 15. Sounds Win 4-2 Over Vegas For Series Sweep Nashville's Blake Lalli Leads Offense, Going 3-for-4 With 2 RBIs Nashville Sounds http://i.imgur.com/wVdhqen.jpg Sean Halton (Mike Strasinger / Nashville Sounds) NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds downed the Las Vegas 51s by a 4-2 margin in front of 8,993 fans at Greer Stadium Friday night to pick up the team's first series sweep of the season. The win extends the team's season-best winning streak to five games. Tied 2-2 in the fourth inning, Sounds shortstop Josh Prince dropped a triple into right field to lead off the frame and came around to score on a Blake Lalli's double. Lalli recorded three of the Sounds 10 hits on the night, while Prince and Sean Halton each recorded two knocks. In the fifth, Prince scooted a ground ball through the infield for an insurance run, scoring Halton from second for the 4-2 lead. Reliever Zach Kroenke (5-13) picked up the win for Nashville, his fifth, after delivering 4 1/3 scoreless innings for Nashville. The lefty limited Las Vegas to two hits, fanning four and walking one. Reliever Jesus Sanchez notched his third save with a scoreless ninth inning. The Sounds took the initial lead in the contest when Hunter Morris and Lalli each connected for two-out RBI singles. Morris' knock scored Halton, while Lalli singled in Prince. Right-hander Marco Estrada started on the hill for Nashville, making a scheduled 50-pitch rehab start for Milwaukee. The nine-year-pro walked Eric Campbell in the second inning and allowed a two-out single to Juan Centeno for his first of two earned runs. In the third inning, Estrada picked up a quick two outs but then allowed his next two batters on base, before leaving the runners for Kroenke after 47 pitches. Kirk Nieuwenhuis touched Kroenke for a single to left field that allowed Wilmer Flores to score. Estrada finished with a no decision, allowing two runs on three hits across 2 2/3 innings of work. He walked two and struck out two. Relievers Kyle Heckathorn and Brent Leach also saw work from the hill for Nashville, combining to pitch a scoreless eighth inning. Las Vegas starter Jacob deGrom (3-2) was charged with the loss, allowing Nashville four runs on nine hits and two walks. The Sounds begin a fresh four-game series with the Tucson Padres (Padres affiliate) Saturday night at Greer Stadium. Throwing for Nashville will be LHP Aaron Laffey (5-5, 5.31) opposite Tucson's lefty Jason Lane (2-0, 3.86). 16. Keith Law is never a good source on prospects imo. He probably hasn't even ever seen Williams or Roache play in person... everything he seems to 'report' on prospects usually sounds like hearsay to me.
  17. Hawing, the Twitter celebrity!
  18. Great point, Patrick. And if anyone needs an example, Wily Peralta is a perfect one. Most times it takes a prospect failing numerous times (think Segura in the first half of his big-league games last season, too) before they begin to succeed at the MLB level.
  19. .300 OBP? I think that's an exaggeration. For all we know, a non-PED using Braun could easily still be a .350-.375 OBP guy. Heck, for all we know, his 2012 season line is what a non-using Braun can do.
  20. Whether this was the case, or (and/or?) clubs simply aren't willing to offer much in return for Lohse, the Brewers are stuck with his contract on a team that doesn't forecast in any reasonable sense to be a serious contender in 2013 or 2014. And the longer Lohse stays with the Brewers the lower his trade value is with each day that passes.

The victory, Nashville's sixth shutout of the year, extended the Sounds' longest winning streak of the season to four games. Las Vegas advanced only two runners into scoring position all evening. Narveson (3-6) logged his third quality start in his last four outings to earn the victory. He faced three batters over the minimum while scattering three hits during his seven scoreless frames and struck out a season-high eight batters. The left-hander's solid outing gave Nashville starting pitchers 22 consecutive scoreless innings dating back to Monday's series finale in Omaha. Johnnie Lowe (0.2 IP) and Brent Leach (0.1 IP) combined to work a scoreless eighth before Michael Olmsted closed out the shutout in the ninth. Sounds hurlers retired 15 of the final 17 Las Vegas batters on the night and faced only one batter over the minimum through the final six frames of action. Nashville (42-71) finished with an 8-1 record while wearing its 1980s-style jerseys on Throwback Thursdays at Greer Stadium this season. The Sounds are just 17-32 in their other home contests. In the bottom of the fourth, first baseman Hunter Morris (2-for-3) broke a scoreless tie when he snapped his longest home run drought of the season by leading off with his team-leading 20th big fly of the year, a solo shot to center off 51s starter Giancarlo Alvarado. It was the slugger's first homer in his last 72 at-bats and gave the Sounds a 1-0 lead. Alvarado (4-1) suffered his first loss of the year in hard-luck fashion after working a quality start for the visitors. The right-hander allowed one run on six hits over 6 1/3 innings of action. The Sounds upped their lead to 4-0 in the eighth inning with three unearned runs against Las Vegas reliever Jack Leathersich. Robinzon Diaz (2-for-4) led off with a single and moved to second on a Morris walk before scoring when 51s third baseman Brandon Hicks was unable to handle Hainley Statia's two-out ground ball. Stephen Parker (2-for-3) followed with a two-run double off the base of the right-center wall. The Sounds will look to nail down their first series sweep of the year when the teams wrap up the four-game set with a 7:05 p.m. finale on Friday night.
