  2. Axford should be in right now. By the way, Hunter Pence is officially on the all-time Brewer Killer team.
  3. Wow, a meaningful hit with someone in scoring position.
  4. I find this eerily similar to September 2008....can't get a clutch hit, not scoring many runs, one bad mistake per game seems to kill them...right down to the poor performance against Philly. They had better win today. I'm not really sure that you can rest on 'St. Louis would have to go 13-3' etc. Outside of the Philly games, they have a tremendously easy schedule...not to mention that Philly has been sitting a lot of their big bats this weekend, who's to say they won't rest a lot of guys next weekend? I believe that the Cardinals finish against Houston, would you really want to go into that final series with a 1-2 game lead. There is three weeks left of the season, 2 games a week isn't that tough to make up, especially if these guys start feeling the pressure around their necks.... they've lost 4.5 games since Tuesday.
  5. Troy O'Leary was dumped to keep David Hulse if I remember correctly.... Wunch really surprised me when he made it with the White Sox. From watching him in Beloit, the two things that I remember was the 5K inning and the ears. They had 2 firsts in '93 and two sandwich picks in '93, Wunch was one, Adams Friendship's own Joe Wagner was another. D'Amico and Dunn were the others. I really think D'Amico would have been a good pitcher had his arm not fallen off. Bando and the scouting staff back then really had a thing for drafting college players in the first rounds Off the top of my head, I'm thinking Williamson, Green, Jenkins, Peterson and Sheets. Outside of D'Amico, I'm not sure that regime ever took a high school player in the first round.
  6. Can't stand the guy, he seems like a real tool. The Cardinals organization in general are just sore losers, it seems like anytime a team finishes ahead of them in the standings ('08 Brewers, '10 Reds, etc.) they get their undies in a bunch.
  7. How am I supposed to get over this? http://cmcforum.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/Dean-taylor.png To make the 90's topic fairly relevant, (actually I think it's 2000 but the same difference) since I first saw it, I've been a little nervous about the 'Cowboy picture' becoming this decades ''sweep suits'. Trying a little reverse mojo here to break the hex.
  8. Drafted in 91 before Bando took over. I was thinking that he was drafted in '92 for whatever reason. Just looked it up, and saw the name Kenny Felder. I had successfully erased him from my memory banks until now.
  9. Frankly, I blame that era more on Selig's absentee ownership allowing Wendy and Laurel to run things into the ground. I don't think that it's any coincidence that the Brewer fortunes turned almost exactly at the point where Selig became interim commissioner. It was also at that time that Bruce Manno and a big chunk of the scouting department departed to be replaced by ineptitude for several years (Al Goldis, etc.)- my guess is that the team was cutting corners in that department as well. This doesn't absolve Bando of his ineptitude by any means. The signing of Eldred along with the Bichette trade in particular was the height of idiocy. Allowing Molitor to walk speaks for itself, but my guess is that he was the middle man in those negotiations. I can't blame him for the Sheffield trade either, though he didn't get near enough for Greg Vaughn. I will say that you are not giving him enough credit for the '92 team. His choice of Garner as manager (over Tenace) was very good and he added a few a spare pieces to that team that were big.
  10. I couldn't care less about Morgan's antics last night. Both Pujols and Carpenter are tremendous d-bags. It's about time someone from the Brewers put them in their place.
  11. Last year the DBacks unloaded Edwin Jackson to the White Sox with a year and 2 months left on his deal and got back Daniel Hudson. Now it's hard to imagine another GM dumb enough to give up a young pitcher of that quality, but you never know. I just don't understand the infatuation with Edwin Jackson in general... A career losing record, an ERA under league average and a career WHIP approaching 1.5- plus he doesn't strike out a lot of guys and walks a ton. I know that he has good stuff, but he's basically had one good year and he seems to get flipped for good prospects annually. My guess is that he will get overpaid in a big way this winter, hopefully by the Cardinals.
  12. Braun isn't really that bad in LF. I've seen much worse in recent Brewers' history. Kevin Mench and Carlos Lee spring to mind immediately. Rightly or wrongly, Kemp has no shot because he plays for the Dodgers. That's just the way it is.
  13. I'll take a split... and a sweep one way or the other in St. Louis.
  14. Pitching definitely costs a lot ... the Red Sox traded Hanley Ramirez for Josh Beckett. Would the Sox like to have Hanley in their lineup for the last 5 years. I'm sure they would. But you have to give to get. (Especially when you are the Brewers and you are horrible at drafting pitching) Agreed. Lawrie is off like gangbusters, but he's got a long way to go before they should start casting his HOF bust. It looks like he's going to be a very good hitter for many years, but Marcum has been better than advertised. Going further, Lawrie is in pretty much the perfect situation. There's no saying he would have even been in Milwaukee this season (or next, judging on how they've handled some of the younger prospects). In the end, even if Lawrie turns out to be a superstar, I'll be able to accept it if the team can make a deep run in the playoffs this year or next year- hopefully both. In a way, it's kind of similar to the Sheffield trade which instead of a playoff run I accepted because Sheffield was a major d-bag.
  15. if the brewers win tonight, the magic number goes from 11 to 9 correct? i was really looking forward to tigerbrews rooney pics. Yes. Hopefully, Bob McClure and Andy Etchebarren are skipped in the next few days as well.
  16. I think that Prince and Braun have distanced themselves from the pack by a lot at this point because none of the guys with comparable stats outside of Upton play for contenders. Braun has closed the gap, and gun to my head, I probably vote for him at this point after going with Prince for basically the entire year. I can't see how a split vote could hurt them, because the writers have to vote for 10 places, no? In my view, Upton would be the only legit threat, though I see a lot of the East coast media giving Victorino a top 3 vote.
  17. If Prince can be kept, I'd be OK with Wolf getting moved. If Greinke and Prince can be locked in, I'd be OK with both Wolf and Hart getting moved. I will be the first to admit that Wolf has exceeded my expectations and then some, but I'd rather move him than Hart- but like I said, if Hart needs to be moved to add cheaper pieces and clear salary for Prince and Greinke, I'd be on board. I'd think that Hart has quite a bit of trade value as well since he is basically a insanely cheaper more productive version of Jayson Werth- controlled for two years. As for Wolf, I believe that his no-trade clause is pretty limited if not gone after this year, and I'd have to think that he would draw some interest. Freeing up Wolf's $9.5 million should absorb a chunk of the raises due to guys like Gallardo, Weeks, Braun, etc.. You also have the raises to the arby guys to consider- most notably Marcum- who will get a huge bump, but I would think that there would be some room to give both Prince and Greinke a salary bump and keep Hart for the short term if you were willing to go near $100 million in payroll. In this scenario, you'd have to let Hawkins and Counsell walk, but that's pretty much a foregone conclusion anyway. I think a core of Braun/Prince/Weeks with a staff of Greinke/Gallardo/Marcum/Axford would keep this team competitive for the next several years, no matter who you put around them- which wouldn't be much, since you'd probably have about $20 million or so to spread around for the rest of the roster (assuming a $100 million payroll).
  18. I don't think that Gamel's snub has any bearing on Prince's status in Milwaukee. However, let's say for a minute that the Brewers make the World Series... Look at the prices that they are charging for tickets. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that could add 10-11 additional home games. Add to that the added revenue from the new TV contract, not to mention the 3 million in attendance pretty much guaranteed for a few more seasons, and there is really no excuse for Attanasio not to bump the payroll up to the $100 million range for the next few years.
  19. 283 No-No's in MLB history. Looks like George was the 293rd Cycle. So, it's pretty darn close to 1:1. Thanks for the info, that's interesting. Crazy that the Brewers franchise has seven cycles now and only one no hitter- especially with guys who have done it.
  20. Echoing the comments above, the Brewers have to have the most unlikely cast of characters with a cycle in MLB history. Yount and Molitor are givens, but a washed up Mike Hegan (never known for his bat anyway), Charlie Moore, Moeller (I still say the most unlikely cycle in MLB history), Gerut and Kottaras. Wow. I was talking with a friend tonight, I would guess that cycles are maybe 2 or 3 times as common as a no hitter. Anyone have the historical stats on this? A quick Google search gave me nothing.

  22. Yes, props to the fan. This was probably because some idiot pulled a Bob Boone 'home run' out of Ben Oglivie's glove earlier in the series.
