  1. Yeah, I heard that the Dodgers are looking at giving up a fringe arm for him. Ramon Martinez' little brother. He has decent stuff, but he's pretty frail.
  2. I'm down with this, especially since it likely means no Pedro Alvarez.
  3. Exactly why I'd have zero interest. Even in the off chance that he was able to put together a decent half season for the Brewers, his trade value would be minimal. I'd say that there'd be a much higher probability that he'd take the one year deal and put things on cruise control. He looked seriously out of condition last year with the Dodgers.
  4. I don't have much interest in dealing with the Rangers as I believe that most of their prospects are overrated. The majority of their minor league system plays in extreme hitters parks, so their stats are inflated.... reminds me of the Brewers situation in the mid to late 80's. I wouldn't even consider Lucroy for Gallo.
  5. I wasn't a huge fan of Rogers, but I'm somewhat livid that he has been moved to seemingly open up a spot for Pedro Alvarez. Alvarez is just a brutal ballplayer, can't field a position and can't hit. Basically the second coming of Bob Hamelin. The only reason the Brewers are going to sign him is that he's the son in law of the bench coach.
  6. NO. Good grief, sure hope that this doesn't happen due to nepotism. Alvarez is steaming garbage in every way. I can just hear the apologists talking about the 'former home run champ'.
  7. I can't see them making a trade for a long term guy. Don't see them opening the wallet for someone like Span or Jackson either. I'm guessing that we will see a someone like Jordan Schafer picked up as a NRI to compete with the internal candidates (Santana, Reed) as a placeholder.... Hopefully Phillips will be ready in a year or two.
  8. When are people going to realize that K-Rod has zero trade value due to the domestic issue? In this day and age, no team is going to trade anything of value for someone that carries that kind of baggage. It would be like an NFL team trading for Ray Rice last year. There is a reason that he has to come crawling back to the Brewers every time he hits the market and that's it.
  9. Wow, forget about Murphy. Talk about playing out of your mind at the absolute perfect time... I have to think that this tear he's been on has made him eight figures.
  10. There is no way that the Brewers will just dump Garza at this point, considering that they owe him two more years. I've been thinking about one possibility where the Brewers could dump Garza and fill their gaping hole at third base. You have to think the Twins would do just about anything to rid themselves of Ricky Nolsaco, who has pretty much the same contract (signed, I believe after they 'missed' on Garza). How about trading Garza/Khris Davis for Nolasco and Plouffe? The Twins needs to clear a spot in the lineup for Sano, and they look to be a bit thin in the corner outfield (Davis could also be hidden at DH). Plouffe is nothing to write home about, but would be a better option than anyone on the free agent market. This would also clear a spot for Santana. Nolasco is pretty much trash, but I wouldn't expect Garza to be much better.
  11. Agreed on Dominguez. I cannot for the life of me figure out why the Brewers let him walk without even giving him a chance in September. I'm not sure what they see in Perez, but I must be missing it.
  12. This is a given. He was Counsell's college coach and they are buddies. Not sure why Sedar and Coles were kept around.
  13. We will see if Stearns gets to 'do what he wants'. For me, the bellwether will be if Gord Ash, Reid Nichols, etc. keep their jobs. As I've stated before, I'm not a fan of a rebuild with both a GM and manager learning on the job.
  14. Morrison has been a major bust. I'd give him a NRI, but that's about it.
  15. That would be my pick as well. That said, he's probably going to get a decent payday, and I'm not sure it makes sense for the Brewers to give a guy like that eight figures for a couple of years at this stage.
  16. They should move anyone not named Arcia or Phillips that brings legit value back. In particular, I think they have to move Luc. I don't see his value increasing as his contract time shrinks and he ages, likely playing for a bad team. I don't want to see pure salary dumps, but guys like Lind, Smith, Davis, etc. may surprise with what they'd bring back. I'd love to see Garza moved, even for a similar bad contract, but that is likely a pipe dream. Plug the holes in the lineup with make good type free agents on no more than a one year deal.
  17. I will agree to disagree on the dues paying issue. This is his third organization in the past three years. All jobs have been in an administrative role. Has he ever gotten his hands dirty with demonstrable results in player development? I keep hearing how smart he is, but I haven't heard any specific example. Simply put, I think that Attanasio sees him as a protege. Hopefully, he doesn't turn out to be a yes man. I'm also not sure that I like hearing how Melvin will be serving as a mentor due to the lack of experience. It sounds to me like turnover is going to be minimal. If you ask me, this organization needs a major shakeup in the front office. In particular, I think the entire scouting/player development department needs to be blown up. If that doesn't happen, they are just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic as far as I am concerned. Again, hopefully I am wrong. He might start to win me over if I see members of the old boys club (Ash, Nichols, .etc) being shown the door.
  18. Read up on him. He's been involved in pretty much everything. Contract negotiations, arbitration, scouting, analytics, player development. Why would you want a former player to be a GM? Dave Stewart is a former player and he doesn't look like a good GM at all. I'm not dead set on having a former player, but it would be nice having someone who paid their dues at some level. I don't think that Harry Dalton played a lick either, and he was a great GM, but he had a tremendous background and track record in player development. Stearns seemed to start out right at the top in 'manager' roles. I just worry that he is not going to have the experience and Rolodex necessary to put together a winning organizational front office. I sure hope that this is not a situation where Attanasio is going to be able to push him around on personnel decisions to the point where he becomes a defecto GM himself. I'm not sure that I like the GM/manager combo we have right now for a rebuilding team, and Attanasio's finger prints are all over it.
  19. Once the Brewers joined the NL, I began to understand why Cubs fans have hated the Cardinals and their fans so much over the years. My favorite team in the playoffs will be whoever is playing the Cardinals.
  20. I hate the move. We have a guy who basically is going to learn on the job. Houston is having an OK season, but is that enough for this guy to ride in to this on their coattails? No background whatsoever as a player either. Time will tell, I guess. Hopefully I'm wrong.
  21. That pic of Ilitch must have been taken at Mark the Bird Fidrych lookalike day.
  22. I had an interesting discussion last night. Assuming that the Brewers place everyone on revocable waivers this month, what if Braun was claimed by say, the Giants? Do you think the Brewers would pull him back? Three years ago, it would be unfathomable that the Brewers would let someone have Braun for nothing, but now I'm thinking that they would let him walk.
  23. We can thank the stinginess of the Mets for allowing Melvin to dodge a bullet here.
