  1. One of my favorite Onion articles of the year. http://www.onionsportsnet...ter-2ndhalf-col%2C21073/ Looking at things six months later, their analysis was pretty much spot on. Derrek Lee was the type of player that Sal Bando would have brought in back in '99. I'll pass.
  2. I'm not sure why Pujols and wife figured that he deserved a ten year deal. That's a tad preposterous even if you believe that he is 31 going on 32 (I don't). We will see how good this deal looks after year five.
  3. Wow. Way too much money for this guy. The Brewers seem to be cornering the market on thirty-something free agents that no one else really wants. We are looking at upwards of 30 million for Ramirez, Gonzalez and Rodriguez. Terrible.
  4. Postseason? You're talking about postseason? Believe me, after the past month, I'm not looking ahead. Let me rephrase that.... 'who will pitch to lefties this season'. All the lefty relievers currently in the organization seem to be pipe dreams at this point. We'll probably see a lot of Cammy Loe against lefties again next year.
  5. I don't get the need here. With the Brewers apparently keeping Loe, Veras will be the fourth righty out of the bullpen at best. I would have rather non tendered McGehee and signed Saito, who is better situationally against lefties and would have often supplanted Loe as the 7th inning guy.
  6. The more I think about this, the madder I get. Yes, Saito is old and was hurt last season- but when he was pitching, he was about as effective than K-Rod. Not to mention that he was the go to guy against lefties in the post season. Who will that be this year? Manny Parra? The thing that really ticks me off is that Parra will likely be making about the same.
  7. As I've said elsewhere, the Brewers seem to be a little penny wise pound foolish this offseason.
  8. No way would I give this Veras guy more than a million. He's been bouncing all over baseball, so I'm assuming that he has some limitations. I hope that this guy isn't given chance after chance to justify the trade, when it is obvious that this was a pure salary dump. If that's the case, I would have rather they just non-tendered McGehee.
  9. If nothing else, this just belies the lack of class that Mr. and Mrs. Pujols have. Molitor was truly low-balled by the Brewers in '92 but he wasn't harping on the radio throwing around numbers. She was just trying to justify their greed because of an insulting nine-figure offer. At any rate, they are just following God's will, right?
  10. I had no idea about the 'hillbilly racist' thing, so I Googled it. I must have missed it since I avoid ESPN like the plague. After reading the story, I would still go after Scott. Unfortunately, I think that he will draw a lot of interest.
  11. So, what is the status with Loe? I'm assuming that the Brewers are unwilling to give him $3 million in arby so they are probably trying to negotiate a deal with him. My guess is that those talks aren't going well, so Veras is the replacement. These moves look like salary dumps to me. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pay either of Loe/McGehee what they would get in arby either.
  12. For the life of me, I could never ever figure out why fans criticize how much money a ball club is paying someone. Is it your money?? NO! I shared this attitude back in the day. Then the Brewers started talking about giving Jeff Suppan an eight figure deal, and actually went ahead and did it. Ever since then, I've been living vicariously through Attanasio's wallet.
  13. Since when?He looked like a natural righty last season when he was hitting left handed against the Brewers. I'm still trying to figure out why this guy declined arbitration.
  14. Not a fan of this. Obviously the Brewers didn't want to give McGehee a raise. McGehee still has some value as a backup infielder, but I'm not sure that they got much in return. Veras looks to be a poor man's Guillermo Mota. If they were going to trade for a middling reliever, at least they could have gotten a lefty.
  15. Scott was non-tendered by the Orioles tonight. I think he would be a perfect target for the Brewers to fill in for Braun and provide some left handed power off the bench as well as Gamel insurance. He's coming off an injury, but seems to be the perfect candidate to fill the 'Kotsay role'.
  16. My sources say the explanation for the absurdly high testosterone is quite simple. Braun shook hands with Chuck Norris before one of the playoff games. Photographic evidence will exonerate him.
  17. I agree. He's better defensively probably, but I'd rather take my chances with Gamel at the plate. Pena wouldn't come cheaply, either. For some explicable reason, he turned down arby with the Cubs, so he's looking for big money. I don't know about anyone else, but this off season is starting to shape up a lot like '92/'93, only with a ton of money spent. This team is losing a lot of key contributors. I sure hope that they don't start plugging holes with older guys that were once fringe all stars but now are clearly past their primes like Pena (back then it was guys like Brunansky, Doran and Thon).
  18. Lockout or not, a Michael Jackson tribute act, the Admirals and Monster Jam should take a back seat to the Bucks. Outside of maybe Monster Jam, which I'm sure will be packed, I'd bet the downtown businesses would agree. On another note, do they even have non-country concerts at the Bradley Center anymore? I haven't seen one that I would consider attending in at least five years, and I get e-mailed all the announcements of shows.
  19. Carlos Lee in Left? wouldn't that be the same defensively as just laying a glove on the ground and hoping the ball will land in it? No. It'd be like laying a glove in front of those mini-golf windmills with a fishing net attached to the top http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif That said, beggars can't be choosers. This team needs another bat if Braun is gone. I like Hart and Weeks as much as the next guy, but based on their history, I wouldn't bet my paycheck that both will be healthy on Opening Day.
  20. I will clarify. I'm not on board with moving Gamel to left. I want Lee to cover (yes, poor choice of words, I know) left during Braun's suspension, and then serve as insurance for Gamel/play first against lefties/power bat off the bench. He is my Plan B for a Braun replacement if Luke Scott is tendered by the Orioles.
  21. I think some are reading too much into this, but it will probably table any extension talks for this off-season. How long was Rickie's extension delayed? Almost a year if I recall correctly. On the other hand, Weeks lost his agent unexpectedly, Grienke probably already has an agency picked. Let's hope that it's not Boras.
  22. My concern is not is ability to hit. I'd probably expect something between 2010 and 2011 from him (25 homers, low to mid 800 OPS) moving forward, and that's fine... but that's IF he stays healthy. That's my concern, along with his ability to continue playing third base. I hope for everyone's sake that he gets off to a decent start, because he's a prime candidate to be a target of the bandwagon boobirds (high team expectations, high salary, former Cub, de facto replacemet for Prince, etc.). If he gets hurt in Spring Training, or is hitting .232 in mid June, he will be a prime target.
  23. If the Astros pick up 80% of his salary, I'd trade for Carlos Lee. I'd play Gamel in LF and Lee at 1B until Braun returns, then platoon them at 1B the rest of the way. I'd be in for this. El Caballo seems like the type that may retire after this season, but if not he will be playing for a contract. I posted this idea before, but some people seem so dead set against bringing back any ex-Brewer for any reason, it was summarily shot down.
  24. I'm hoping for a Luke Scott non-tender tonight. He would be ideal for the Brewers in the Kotsay role.
  25. Exactly. A lot of people here hate Yadier Molina. I'd be absolutely thrilled if Molina became a Brewer!!!! I'm drawing the line there. Can't stand that Garbage Pail Kid. I'd rather have a Mike Rivera/Eric Munson platoon behind the plate than cheer for that guy.
