  1. So most people on here basically say Segura is 'replacement level' and really not good. Yet Flores improves the team? Only thing it helps is to be a 'replacement level' player at 3B through the next couple crap years instead of whatever else we have. Really could get about the same from Sardinas and not have to give up our best asset. If there is concern on Gomez's hip and not great play this year. Hold him, let him get healthy and/or play well the last couple months and trade him in the offseason. Need to get more back than a TJ pitcher and a middling IF, which we already have a few. If he was a FA this year then yea take what you can get but there is no rush right now. Well, Flores (at 3b or 2b) is likely to be better than Segura. He's just a better hitter. And it's not out of the realm of possibility that a 23 year old player who raked as a too-young-for-his-level minor leaguer could improve is it? He's oozing potential offensively and if he can handle short at all, he should be able to handle 3b adequately.
  2. A year a half of Gomez leading us to under .500 ball and a hit or miss pick is better than a pitcher that would automatically be or best pitcher and a hitter who is 23 and was a top 80 prospect most of his time in the minors. That makes no sense. The draft pick wod be lucky to turn into flores. When you trade your number one available asset and your major league roster wasn't improved in 2016 and your top 10 prospect list hasn't changed, you didn't make a good trade. Flores doesn't improve the 2016 team? Nonsense. My guess is you'll be underwhelmed by what they do end up with.
  3. And I thought I was a Rose hater.
  4. When was Matt Dominguez ever considered something special? I mean, seriously? I don't care about this move much because Wang is junk too, but Dominguez is garbage. Always has been.
  5. High horse. Gimme a break. He's trash. WRT baseball, meh. Not great, not horrible. Probably an overpay, but not an egregious one. I agree with other posters who think this smacks of meddling by Attanasio, which I don't like at all.
  6. Love this deal. Diplan is exactly the kind of guy we should be going after. Knebel is a high velocity reliever. Sardinas could be a valuable piece on an NL team with his versatility and switch hitteredness. I didn't think we'd get much of anything for Yo, so I'm pleasantly surprised.
  7. Good deal for st louis. Neither player they gave up will be missed.
  8. I completely disagree. The manager is involved with every decision made during game time. Some managers are better game managers than others. I will never understand how someone can say that managers don't matter when we had one start Mark freaking Kotsay in the NLCS in CF, which cost us the game, and possibly the trip to the World Series. Managers matter a lot in my opinion. It seems easy to dismiss their importance, but in reality, every decision they make effects the outcome of a game. Yeah and none of them get them all right. It's a 1 or 2 game difference I very the course of the season imo. It matters. Just not much.
  9. He's playing against lefties though. He's .268/.352/.530 career and .315/.415/.630 last year. Not huge samples, but still impressive. I wasn't able to find career minor league splits, but: 1.208 ops vs lhp in 2013 (AAA) .793 ops vs lhp in 2012 (weird reversal that year, 1.042 vs rhp) (AAA) 1.143 ops vs lhp in 2011 (AA) Seems like a really really good hitter to me and can handle a corner outfield spot if necessary. I'd love to get him and I would do the deal SRB proposed easily.
  10. Maldonado has nowhere near the value that Conger has so no. What the Brewers could get for Maldonado is more along the lines of a AAAA player. Maybe I'm overrating him because of familiarity, but I wouldn't trade Maldonado for Conger straight up. I would. In an instant.
  11. Agree on Van Slyke. Wrt Lind playing outfield......yikes.
  12. That's fine if you believe that. There's no way the Brewers only face 27 lefties next year though (1/6 games). Just to be clear, I don't think it's a huge deal, but it matters some. It bothers me that the Brewers continue to waste a bench spot on a 1B platoon.
  13. Well, if it's Lucroy (and I'm fine with that in theory), you probably need a 3rd catcher, which is a huge waste of a roster spot. I imagine they could get away wihout it, but I'm not sure they would. I can honestly say that I don't know if Rogers can play 3rd. This is the first I've heard that he can. If it's possible to keep Jimenez as the platoon mate/utility guy, then I like the move more. Seems unlikely to me, but I'm not saying your wrong. Platooning a spot that is as easy to fill as 1B hurts in the NL.
  14. Good move. Not great. Lind Is Going To Be A Really Bad Defensive player. It also sucks that we're going to have to waste a roster spot on a platoon 1bman again. I'm still happy to see Overbay walking out the door.
  15. Yost was, is and will likely always be an idiot. Having said that, I don't think managers matter much.
  16. I would've happily given them all 3 of those guys. Morneau would've been such a perfect fit. Oh well.
  17. Drew Smyly is pretty good. So is Franklin. Pretty good haul for Tampa.
  18. Well said. I am a fan of the move. It definitely makes us better. Here are some good tweets: McCalvy - Gerardo has no idea where he'll fit into #Brewers OF mix, but he knows this: "The play hard and they play happy. I love that." Vassallo - Parra has 62 assists since 2009, trailing only Bautista (63) among OF. Jim Callis - With 96 minutes to go, OF Mitch Haniger leads the Best Prospect traded on deadline day race Wrt Callis: world's tallest midget situation.
  19. Over his career though, this is Parra vs righties .286 .335 .425 .760 Probably won't be a strict platoon in LF, but more of playing Parra vs righthanded starterS who are especially tough vs RH batters. Plus , he's a top notch defender as a corner OF. Not a major trade of any kind, but i don't care much about losing Haniger. This. Brewers should have pretty incredible outfield defense late in games with a lead. And it's not as if Parra is a stiff at the plate. I don't like losing Haniger but I won't lose any sleep over it.
