  1. Wow. I don't know what you've seen in Beckham that I haven't, but I completely disagree. Ramirez is a plus plus defender (at shortstop no less) and a better hitter. I agree with you on most stuff, but Ramirez is a much more valuable player than Beckham. If all you're going off of are past results, there is very little need for most people in baseball. I honestly don't know what this means. This discussion is moot anyways, I guess.
  2. I can't speak for everyone, but I've been saying both of those things for quite a while. Winning streak notwithstanding.
  3. I doubt it. He'll probably miss 2/3 of their remaining games. It's definitely a swing-for-the-fences type move, but I'm guessing it'll be a whiff.
  4. I think it's great the Cardinals got him. I have no faith in his (in)ability to stay healthy.
  5. Haudricort tweeting that Melvin told him it won't be Counsell.......sigh..........
  6. UZR/150 says bad the last few years, but that's in 84 innings. Earlier in his career he was quite good in CF.
  7. I agree. Komatsu is no big loss. I'm just glad it wasn't a higher-upside guy. Komatsu tops out as a 4th OF IMO.
  8. http://www.mlbtraderumors...e-jerry-hairston-jr.html He's actually been decent this year. I like the move, depending, of course, upon what we gave up. Stats: http://www.baseball-refer...layers/h/hairsje02.shtml Looks like he was pretty darn good defensively at every position he played last year and this year too: http://www.fangraphs.com/...;position=2B/OF#fielding
  9. Ed Wade spreading his own special brand of love around. Probably not a coincidence.
  10. Boston's offense is still better. I'd take the Red Sox over the Phillies easily. They're like 60-28 (!) in the last 88............pretty good.
  11. So last season's .300/.366/.460 line in ~400 at-bats didn't do anything for you?Doesn't do much for me. He had a good year last year, but the other part of the sentence is the problem. Once again, he missed 65 games. He's missed 65 games this year. He missed 125 games in 2008. 2009 is his only full season in the last 4 and his .269/.335/.375 slash line looks a lot like Clint Barmes' .254/.319/.399 from this year. Barmes has some injury issues as well, but not as bad as Furcal's recent history. Plus, Barmes is a much better shortstop.
  12. They might as well get Furcal, Carroll, and Barmes, then add Ryan just for additional depth. That would be significantly better than doing nothing.
  13. Good God, Jeter played with Mariano Duncan? He is ooooold.
  14. How often do you watch Beckham play? The talent is still absolutely there. I think you tend to look at stat lines and little else. Beckham still has star written all over him. He was rushed to the big leagues, but he has great bat speed, and he has a tenacity to him, ala, Rickie Weeks. Just a hard nosed guy. I love Beckham and believe he can be a .300/.375/.500 type player. And he's still what, 25 years old? I'd take Beckham everyday over Ramirez. Wow. I don't know what you've seen in Beckham that I haven't, but I completely disagree. Ramirez is a plus plus defender (at shortstop no less) and a better hitter. I agree with you on most stuff, but Ramirez is a much more valuable player than Beckham.
  15. Farris fitting right into our middle infield.
  16. Blech to Furcal. The guy was ready to retire after his last injury. That doesn't strike me as someone who's too dedicated. Maybe I'm all wet. I hope if we do get him he proves me wrong.
  17. Does anybody else think that Melvin's kind of a knob for revealing that? I mean, what's the point? It just makes Nieves look bad. There was no reveal. Witrado was trying to make a joke. It likely was the amount of a waiver claim ($50,000). The Brewers just want an opportunity for someone to give him a job and save them some money.OK, then I'm a dunce. Nothing to see here.......... My guess was the 50K too.

  19. It's not that people don't think McGehee CAN do it, they just find it unlikely. For reference, here are their rest of season ZiPS projections: Weeks: .255 / .349 / .451McGehee: .257 / .311 / .387 McGehee could do much better than that projection and still not approach Weeks' so I am not very optimistic. And even then, the Brewers have been outscored on the year, so there's reason to believe that even matching Weeks' production might not be enough. Sadly, I'd be thrilled if McGehee did that.
  20. He's been awful 3 of the last 4 years. And hurt this year. I wouldn't touch him with a 10 foot pole.
  21. Dear God I hope not.
  22. DFA'd 15 minutes ago.....I hope to god Melvin doesn't get any stupid ideas. http://www.mlbtraderumors...hall-for-assignment.html Edit: too slow on the draw..........
  23. Carroll's versatility makes him a much better target than Furcal IMO. Carroll has played a ton of 2b while Furcal has played none. Carroll can also play 3rd. I also think Furcal is done.
