  1. I see you changed your original post but even this one, umm... of course he’s better than Drake. It’s an upgrade. Why wouldn’t people be happy about that? So if a guy puts up better stats, isn’t that a good thing? And upside? Drake is 31 years old. These guys are what they are. Jennings has just made a career at the MLB level at getting guys out pretty consistently. Original post was accurate as well. Guy isn't any good. I don't think it's all that clear that he's better than Drake either, but whatever. It's the 8th guy in the bullpen. Hopefully ousted by a young guy by Memorial day.
  2. The team is dumpster diving the day before the opener to backfill its LOOGY spot (due to injury) with another team's castoff. What the heck are you looking for? Jennings has been a useful role player in his career, and is going to come cheap. I don't think anyone is implying that they just picked up Andrew Miller. I'm not looking for anything. Simply pointing out that he really was quite bad last year and nothing special before that.
  3. Wow, I'm surprised at the reaction. Pretty 'meh' guy to me. He's better than Drake I guess?
  4. Don't need to trade him but they really don't need him either. Phillips could probably match or outproduce Keon. Or since Keon is basically just going to be a defensive replacement/pinch runner Kyle Wren could probably fit that role. And I'm not so sure Keon has another option. I thought they used his last one last year. And if he does that should increase his trade value a little. He definitely has another option. It's on this site somewhere. I'll attempt to link it. Edit: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2018/01/keon-broxton-has-minor-league-option-remaining.html
  5. Ummmm.......No. This is not even remotely true.
  6. All in all, that is a pretty thin set of hopes and maybe's. I would say the truth is somewhere in the middle. For instance, it would be almost impossible for the defense to be worse. Yes, it's possible, but it's so unlikely that it's not even worth discussing. I also don't see Arcia becoming an All Star any time soon. Certainly not this year. Also, as you said, losing Nelson is huge.
  7. Yes, it mattered so much when Corey Knebel took the role last year. It's 3 outs in a baseball game and a very overused cliche. The pressure or fact that guys face the best pinch hitters does mean something at times, but not nearly that much. And I can list a whole mess of setup men who couldn't handle it. It matters. And yes, as I said, I think Edwards will take that role and is very good.
  8. I don't see anyone in that pen scaring anyone in the 8th and 9th. They have no closer experience. That matters. Bunch of decent arms and not much else there. Stable? Ok, I guess I can buy that, except the 9th is a huge question mark. Stable doesn't equal good. I do like Edwards quite a bit, but he's only done it for one year. I'd guess he'll be their closer at some point.
  9. The Cubs had very little interest in bringing back Arrieta. They wanted to do something like Cobb/Chatwood early, but Cobb was pricing himself too high and Darvish price was coming down, so the Cubs pivoted to Darvish. (Note: I find it funny that some Brewers fans--not sure if it is this board or not--are talking themselves into believing the Cubs bullpen will be bad.) It will be. Watch. Hanging your hat on Brandon Morrow and Justin Wilson is bad business. No ones talking themselves into it. Edit: And to be clear, I'm not saying the Brewers will finish ahead of the Cubs, the Cubs aren't the better team, etc., but the Cubs bullpen will be a problem this year in my opinion.
  10. You never want a guy wrho, if he repeats his last season, is non-tendered. Edit: he probably wouldn't be non-tendered anyway because his actual e.r.a. doesn't look that bad even though he was actually terrible.
  11. Good. Odorizzi was terrible last year. Glad we avoided him.
  12. I'll say it again-the Cubs bullpen is not good. Watch. Anyway, I agree they're clearly better than the Brewers with or without Cobb. I think they're a 90-95 win team. Wouldn't surprise me at all if it was less. Can the Brewers get to those win totals? That's why they play em.
  13. Just to point out how ridiculous 110 wins is, they'd have to go over .500 against the other 8 "good teams" to win 110. Assuming, of course, that they went 58-0 against those 6.
  14. They have ridiculous talent in their primes or just hitting their primes. Anytime you talk about that kind of win total, obviously it's an extreme long-shot. I'm not sure if people aren't reading the post or if they just love being dramatic, but "could" only means it isn't outside the realm of possibility. There are probably about 10-12 squads this century who were outside threats to win that many games, and they're one of them - especially since the NL is mediocre as heck this year. You mention a team winning 110 games and I'm being dramatic?
  15. Nothing wrong with that. I still think the future is the priority for them, as it should be. I won't be too mad if they struggle a bit and have some regression. They can trade the guys approaching 30 or beyond for more prospects and continue to stockpile for the future. They're not touching the Cubs or Dodgers anyway. I think the Cubs could win 110+ this year. A lot of things went wrong for them last year and they were still a top-7 team in MLB. The wild card is in reach and I hope they get one, but it's a win-win either way. I know people overrate the Cubs in general, but Holy God. Their bullpen could be quite bad. They don't have an experienced closer. It could be disastrous for them. 110 wins?
  16. I read the article and I still don't understand how him being an outlier when looking at two random stats shows anything. I think there's is correlation between hitting the ball to center field and high BABIP. But not in this case which is weird. As for Clark, I love him as a prospect. Can't teach those OBP skills at that age. Obvious swing-and-miss problems, but I'm optimistic he'll turn the corner there.
  17. Those numbers are fool's gold. Gimme Chacin any day on the same deal.
  18. Now go get Peavy & Lincecum and our 2012 rotation is set. Seriously though, if he ever sees Milwaukee I'll be disappointed.
  19. Yeah, Ray was always a guy who was going to have to develop in the minors despite being a high pick college guy. This is a make-or-break year for him. Need to see some improvement.
  20. Why would a person do that? If you could get $500 each for $100 seats you'd sell them for $100? I also haven't been to a Cubs/Brewers game in close to 10 years and have no interest in changing that.
  21. 4/65 is way more than I'd be comfortable with. I'd offer him 3/45 knowing that won't do it.
  22. Minimal money, sure. But it's still not a need in my opinion. If Lucroy batted Left-handed I'd be more in favor it, because I really don't like Vogt at all.
  23. That post is 7 months old. good catch... Yeah that confused me for a bit too.
  24. The only thing that scares me about Cain is his injury history. He's had a lot of leg/groin injuries which will get tougher to deal with as he gets older. He's missed 164 games the last 5 years. That's not insignificant. And from a quick & dirty google search, they all seem to be lower body issues.
  25. Yeah, that seems like too good of a fit to not happen. Maybe not that deal specifically, but Santana to Cleveland makes a ton of sense. I'd keep him, personally. I don't really care how Braun feels about it. Maybe he'll OK a trade elsewhere then, which would be great with me.
