  1. Actually, Nottingham was added, so we're up to 5. Susac must have compromising pictures of Stearns's wife or something. Ha, that's right. Not the best use of the 40 man in my opinion. I'm guessing it won't stay that way, but yowza.
  2. Excellent Devine. Good for Matt. I take it all back.
  3. I guess. 4 catchers on the 40 man seems really dumb to me. Especially since 2 of them aren't really any good.
  4. No, it was said many times that he was a leader in the clubhouse especially with the young guys last year and was one of the biggest pranksters/practical jokers in all of MLB. He did a lot to keep a loose clubhouse. Whenever they interviewed guys on TV in the dugout and you saw sunflower seeds, Double Bubble, etc., being tossed on them, it was Garza. I don't know how I didn't know this. Garza was fairly well-known for being a jerk at previous stops. There weren't any incidents here? I feel like there was.
  5. Matt Garza had a WAR of -0.8 in Milwaukee, He had a good first season and not much there after. Riske was a much worse signing. Its just that he never really played his last 2 years here and its not as recent. But its not close. I'd argue Soup was a worse FA signing over Garza. This is why I didn't want the brewers to sign Arietta, because he would end up in the Soup / Lohse / Garza category. Chacin, no matter what he does here will not. Riske was definitely horrible, but he cost nothing. Garza was 50 flippin million dollars. Edit: I just looked at Suppan. He's probably worse actually. Very similar contract and was somehow worse than Garza.
  6. Really hate this. Drake or Susac/Bandy seems much better. First move this off season that I really don't like.
  7. It's Garza. He was a terrible player and probably terrible in the clubhouse. $50,000,000. Not sure how it could be anyone else.
  8. We have a good catcher. I like Realmuto, but it's not worth what it would cost .
  9. What would a trade for Duffy, Merrifield and Herrera look like? I know it's unrealistic, but that would plug some holes.
  10. No chance I could have said it better. I agree 100%. They go so far beyond WAR. There is no site I've learned more from than Fangraphs.
  11. I don't think I've ever read anything on this site that I disagreed with more.
  12. The Cubs have signed two very risky bullpen arms. I'm a little surprised by who they've gone after. There isn't really a guy in that bullpen that is rock-solid by any stretch. That bullpen could be either very good or very bad. I liked the Chatwood signing for them though. Why is cishek risky? Guys had 7 years without 1 over 3.6. 60 ip on average career era at 2.73. Dudes one of the more stable mid level rhps on the market. This is one of the guys i REALLY wanted. At swarzak price that's a good addition. I'd rather believe he'll repeat his success an 8 and 9th time than swarzak not regress his a 2nd time. Id rather the cubs swing big at the best available than eat up a fiscally responsible pen arm like this. Big market buying up all the guys in our market doesn't do us any favors. Yeah, he's not as volatile as I had remembered. He was not very good in 14-15, but his last 2 years have been pretty darn good. I think I was just going off memory. I knew he was having trouble with walks for a while there, but that doesn't appear to have been the case the last 2 years. Better signing than I originally gave credit for.
  13. They also signed Drew Smyly and are probably looking into another deal. Smyly won't pitch in 2018 most likely.
  14. Aria moves to second before Manny does. Machado has been filling in at SS for the past few seasons in Baltimore with Hardy getting hurt. Machado is the better SS (of he/ Hardy/ Arcia) and if playing SS full time, he is easily in top 5 of all baseball (if not higher). Glove/ Bat/ Range. Machado has it all. If thats the case... and I had no idea machado was that level of defender at SS (3b yes) then that's the type of middle IF stearns would PAY! If we traded for him and locked him up as he's crazy young I'd be all for this. Machado ss diaz or huira 2b is what titles are built on. If any of our OF prospects can defend cf well and hit well I trust platoons and thames types to fill out the rest. You load up at SS 2B and CF and the rest of the offense is easy. Thats the only way I want Machado and yes I know hes looking at 25+/7 minimum. Scary part is that if he has a good year I'd be betting on more like 30+/10.
  15. He had a really good year in 2014 iso-wise (41 doubles, including 28 at AAA), 2015 seemed to be a lost season all-around, I'm not sure why. Seems to have some Kipnis in him. Edit: His season last year is almost a carbon copy of Kipnis' 2012-2013 seasons minus a few walks.
  16. Yep. Merrifield would be a great get. And I have no idea why they'd trade him.
  17. salty... I mean, he's right...........
  18. The Cubs have signed two very risky bullpen arms. I'm a little surprised by who they've gone after. There isn't really a guy in that bullpen that is rock-solid by any stretch. That bullpen could be either very good or very bad. I liked the Chatwood signing for them though.
  19. No reason to overpay for a player that isn't some huge upgrade, at least in their eyes. They made him what they thought was a fair offer. I, for one, am glad they didn't cave. It's a good indicator. Assuming that's what happened as reported.
  20. Nope. Stay the course. I wouldn't mind consolidating some of the prospect depth, but I understand that that may be extremely difficult. And I'd only do it for the right player. In Stearns I trust. Completely, until he gives me a reason to do otherwise.
  21. I guess if you believe last year was the real Ozuna, or that it was his break out season, this sucks. I don't really buy it, but it's possible that last year is the new him. If that is in fact the case, yes, this sucks.
  22. A lot of hand wringing over Anthony Swarzak. I'm not really worried about our bullpen yet. If this is our bullpen in February, I'll jump on the bandwagon. There are plenty of good relievers still available via free agency and trade. He may also be planning a big splash somewhere else on the diamond. I'll wait and see.
  23. .824/1.571/2.395 Yes, that is destruction haha.
  24. You'd think the Rays would want guys will all of their control left. Never know though I guess.
  25. Honestly, I think I do this. I won't blink losing Ortiz and Erceg for Archer. I have serious concerns about Ortiz' weight and Erceg, whom I like, is expendable for a controllable arm like Archer. Brinson is painful, but Phillips/Broxton with Harrison HOPEFULLY coming could ease the pain. This is pretty much my line of thinking. It's risky for sure, but I think Archer is ace quality. His 2016 is a little disconcerting, but I'd take the chance. The Brewers have a lot of non-elite prospects, but good ones all the same. I'd attempt to consolidate them if possible (as long as it's for a guy with 3+ years of affordable control).
