  1. I'd give them 3 of our top 10 guys. Without hesitation. Archer is worth it. I'd offer Brinson/Ortiz/Erceg plus a lower-rated guy of their choice, say, Medeiros or someone of that ilk. I don't think that gets it done, but that's what I'd offer.
  2. I'm expecting big years from Clark and Ray. Not sure I should be, but that's what I'm expecting. Getting out of Carolina will hopefully do wonders for both. Breakout: Clark Bounce Back: Ray Bust: Erceg-I just don't see it with him. Hope to be wrong Sleeper: Herrera. That Lind trade has potential to be a Godsend.
  3. And Ozzie Smith I guess. Trammell was better in his prime, but his prime was pretty short. Smith was the better player career-wise. At least in my opinion. I'm not sure either should be a HOFer but here we are. Morris also doesn't belong at all. Edit: after looking at it, I think those shortstops are worthy. Good for Trammell.
  4. I know I'd be jacked as a Marlin fan to replace Stanton and Gordon with Starlin Castro.
  5. If you don't believe that 2017 was the real Minor I guess you could say Reed is better. I don't think he was significantly better last year. I'd say better, but not by a whole lot. His ability to go multiple innings and be left-handed are the things I like about Minor. He went more than 1 inning 20 times last year to Reed's 9. That's a big deal for me, although that is only relevant if the manager takes advantage of it, and I believe Counsell would. I'd much rather have Minor on his deal than Reed at 4/40. Of course we don't even know that's what Reed will get.
  6. Actual amount is $38 million. Not that that's a big deal. Well, that's pretty much my top two targets gone. Yippee.
  7. Reed for $40,000,000 is gross. Pass. Easily. If he took a similar deal to Minor I'd be ok with it, but $40MM seems like a pretty hefty overpay even if it is 4 years.
  8. Not necessarily. Guys turn down single year offers for lesser multi year deals for the security all the time. I'm assuming he means the total contract is for more than $10MM, which it obviously wiil be. I'll be surprised if it's under $25MM total value. This was my #1 hope for the Brewers even though I think he'll end up being overpaid over the term of the contract.
  9. Franklin Stubbs leaps to mind. Serisously though, sure, why not? There's no risk here at all.
  10. What a strange comparison. I don't see that one at all. I'd deal Brinson in the right trade, but this isn't it. Phillips and/or Ray? Sure.
  11. Would like this outcome even if there's some moves here I could do without (mainly Darvish). The problem is I don't think it's realistic. C.C. is going to get more than that, both in salary and years. 2/$40m wouldn't shock me. Ray probably doesn't get you Hernandez, let alone Abreu, and you're overrating Thames on the trade market if you think he makes up the difference. Villar is not getting you anything of consequence until he has a good year again. Even Brinson straight-up for Yelich is a stretch. I'm not opposed to the idea of making the kind of dramatic improvements you suggest, but I think there are better ways to do it. Anything is possible, but I would be completely amazed if Sabathia for $20MM AAV. I also don't think he'll sign a one year deal, but he's simply not worth what you're projecting. I agree with much of your other analysis. For my part, I'm pretty much staying the course. Any FA contracts need to be 2 years max, 3 if it's a perfect fit guy. This team is going to start getting expensive in 2020.
  12. I wouldn't do much in FA. I'd like a reliever, preferably a lefty. Minor makes a ton of sense, but he'll be expensive. I'd also take a flyer on Chatwood if I can get him for like 3/21-24. Don't know how likely that is. I would explore consolidation trades to get some value for prospects. I wouldn't be averse to trading 2-3 position player prospects for a young mlb'er or other pitching prospects. Other than that, I'm good going into next season. Try Hader in the rotation no matter what for me.
  13. No question that Bellinger deserved it, but Manny didn't get a vote of any kind. Which is completely ridiculous, but it's obviously not a big deal.
  14. Blows my mind, but there ya go. I thought the people saying zero votes were crazy. They were right. I was wrong. He needed to finish stronger than he did. He wasn't good the last three months (low .600 OPS during that time) of the season. When you put that with his age and only playing about 100 games, he just wasn't a real good candidate. I clearly pay way too much attention to war. And a lot of his value was tied to defense, which can be pretty arbitrary .
  15. Blows my mind, but there ya go. I thought the people saying zero votes were crazy. They were right. I was wrong.
  16. Yeah, he's a HOFer. Easily. Probably not first ballot, but he'd be on mine the first time around. Just a great all-around centerfielder.
  17. Marc Newfield is #1 with a bullet for me. Also, Tim Pyznarksi had ridiculous AAA numbers but never made it. He even had a Topps 1987 rookie card despite having 47 career PA in the majors. He was the PTBNL in the deal that sent Randy Ready to the Padres. I remember being so excited that we got him. Edit: In retrospect I have no idea why I thought Newfield was such a great prospect. He only had one good season and it was at Calgary, which I'm sure the elevation had something to do with.
  18. I really like Smoltz. And Jerry Augustine would have to be the last announcer alive to not be the worst announcer alive. Wait, I guess he'd be the worst then too.
  19. My Phillips jersey. It's the first one ever made, it was made about an hour after the trade (I had been tailgating and thought it was a good idea at the time). Had the number put on in August of this year.
  20. It's 2/11.75 with 8.5 and 9.5 options. That is pretty damn good for us.
  21. Looks like 4 year contract. No details yet. Buys out arby and one year of FA. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/ Edit: I read that wrong. 2 years, with 2 team options. Depending on the money sounds like a pretty great deal.
  22. The off would have to be huge. And if he was on the market, we'd be outbid, I think, because we don't have the premium pitching prospects. Hader/Brinson/Ortiz & a 4th prospect would be a start, but I think that that wouldn't be enough.
  23. I agree 100%. I hope the Dodgers do the same, although that's obviously a different set of circumstances. But if the Rockies were playing, say, the Giants, I would hope and expect Bochy to do his best to beat them.
  24. At the time of the trade, I felt like Phillips was a highly touted version of Logan Schafer. He's proven to be a bit more impactful in just about every way(while striking out more), I hope he gets a chance to hit regularly at this level. It's going to be tough to earn that opportunity consider our options. Odd comparison. Phillips had a lot higher slugging percentage than Schafer ever thought about. Stole more bases too, albeit on lower percentages. Phillips was represented as a power-hitting centerfielder with the arm of a rightfielder by my recollection.
  25. This is it for me. I loved PNC, but I admit I've only been to like 8 stadiums. Wrigley is the world's biggest outdoor sewer.
