  1. He has been right every time. Hechevarria didn't go. Not really up for debate.
  2. As far as the MLB roster, he did a great job fleecing Dombrowsk to be sure. Other than that he has been more lucky than good living off hot streaks of guys who aren't very good. The starting rotation, CC, and Knebel are Melvin's guys. Picking Villar AND doubling down by wanting to give him an extension over Scooter is insane and one he won't soon live down. This has been an unexpected but fun season But no one is going to get excited for our future because we have Sogard, Thames, Broxton, and Pina, et al. Like any GM hire during a rebuild, we will know more when his prospects make their way to the majors and only then will we know what we really have in Stearns. I appreciate the response. You and I aren't going to agree on Stearns, but I thank you for explaining your position.
  3. Villar saved Stearns from himself. Just to be clear, do you think Stearns has done a good job?
  4. Pina has a pretty good chance to be a 4 WAR player. That's pretty damn good. Obviously Bellinger wins, but I think Pina has a good case for a top 3 or 4 finisher, which given his expectations is awesome. I personally believe he deserves a lot of the credit for the pitching staff exceeding their expectations.
  5. I understand what you're saying, but at this point he really doesn't command any of his pitches. Take some velocity away by asking him to throw 100 pitches instead of 30 and I could see him getting hit hard. He certainly can still do it, but improved command is a must. He may not be a starter but he needs to prove he can't is my main post. I mean we run Garza, Guerra, Suter, etc out there so we can probably afford to give Hader some run (next year not this) Agree pretty much. Garza and Suter have been pretty good though.
  6. They may not. And I'm OK with that. Although, really, it's time to face reality in Detroit. They're going to be very bad for a while unless they just put the plow down and light more money on fire. I would be hoping for a fire sale this offseason if I were a Tiger fan.
  7. Pretty much exactly what I was going to say.
  8. No idea why I thought of this just now, but he's been really, really good. It's obvious he won't win, but he could finish top 5 I'd think. Really fantastic season for a guy that's going to catch 80% of our games frome here on out. Significantly better than Lucroy this year, which is fun.
  9. If only we had a LH bat who could play both 2B and LF we'd be set! Hopefully one that only makes $2M a year or so. A 900 OPS guy would be just what this offensive starved team could use now. Oh wait..... Jesus. Are you still banging this drum? The guy has had a fluky season. And he's been his old terrible self recently. .253/.282/.400 since the break.
  10. Well, I'd say it's 100% clear that they can't get anything for him unless they pay some of his contract. So, what do you want to sell Dubon, Erceg or Ray for? $10,000,000? $20,000,000? I'm seriously asking. Not trying to be a jerk. For me, I'm just a fan, it's not my money. I don't want any of those guys being traded for Verlander just so our owner can save money in a season where payroll is down fairly significantly.

  12. I asked this question aloud last night. My wife wasn't sure what or who "Cal Eldred" was.
  13. I'd bet heavily on this. I'd also bet heavily that he will be a consensus top 3 Brewer prospect at this time next year.
  14. Just like Chris Sale. And I am 100% certain that the Hader story will continue exactly like Sale's has.
  15. He pitched his way out of trouble. It was no fluke. All 7 hits he allowed were singles against a lineup that included 4 guys with 20+ HR. In today's game if you don't get extra base hits, you have trouble scoring. Some of those were dinkers that fell in. He was in complete command after the 2nd. The trouble in the 3rd was due to error by Shaw. He couldn't have been more impressive. His "misses" inside were nasty and unhittable. But his stuff (fastball was 93-95 all night) is good enough that he doesn't need to be pinpoint all the time. He flashed a good slider and a nasty changeup as well. I had the Rays' telecast on in the first. They were raving that for a rookie in his first major league start that he had tremendous mound presence and didn't look like a rookie usually looks in his first start. He didn't seem rattled at all with men on base. Couldn't agree more. Former Rays pitcher Doug Waechter also raved about him in their postgame show. I don't agree with you on a lot of stuff but this post is 100% spot on. The first two innings told me all I need to know about his makeup. He's tough mentally. And as And That said, that changeup was just nasty. He's going to be a good one if he stays healthy. Could be a really good one if he can refine the slider and keep it down.
  16. Yeah Hader needs a change up. Might be too late. I love what I saw from Woodruff.
  17. I agree. And I assume that last question is rhetorical.
  18. You're crazy if you think that option isn't getting picked up.

  20. Clark is a strange case. So many things point to him becoming a great hitter, not just good, but then you see 110k and a .235 average. He's very young for his league though. Very interested in seeing what happens with him next year. I wonder if he'll start in Biloxi or not.
  21. Yeah, he's painful on TV, must get nervous or something.
  22. I agree. It would be hilarious. How that guy ever got a job in TV is way beyond my comprehension. I heard Jerry speak at a conference for about 30 minutes straight a couple years ago. He was nowhere near as bad as he is on TV. Yeah, my father-in-law said the same thing. He's in insurance right?
  23. I agree. It would be hilarious. How that guy ever got a job in TV is way beyond my comprehension.
  24. 95% sure he moved. Drew Olson is buddies with him and talks about him occasionally. I noticed those guys on Saturday night as well. They seemed like they were a little over the top as you said. But in my case I find that to be fantastic. Screw the Cubs.
  25. "He’s not averse to trying marriage again someday. He doesn’t want to grow old alone. For now, though, and for the foreseeable future, he knows his unique relationship with baseball makes such a prospect all but impossible." Yeah, I think you can take the 'all but' out of that quote. This is fairly incredible to me. Evey home game for 35 years. Yowza. Edit: after reading the entire article, I think the whole thing is pretty weird.
