  1. hard to think anyone would really want Hoffman except San Diego. but heck, maybe we trade Hoffman to SD and get TGJ back! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  2. i almost expect something different in every bar; just some kind of specialty. i was surprised at one dive bar that had a rail whiskey and a rail bourbon (i've rarely seen that). one had an extensive scotch selection; another had a good beer selection from across the country. at another bar i would say "oh, just make me something," and in all the years i never had the same drink twice. one great touch at a bar i went to in Platteville was they'd serve little cups of M&Ms with the Guinness.
  3. next time Brewerfan interviews a major league pitcher or a catcher, i'd really really be interested to hear what he'd have to say about pitching to a good hitter with a mediocre hitter behind him. there would be a lot variables to account for in any purely statistical study. not just a batter's OPS but do they tend to get more fastballs, etc... there's really a lot to have to account for. pure numbers aside, a pitcher or catcher would certainly know if pitch selection or just approach would be different. but heck, maybe with nobody behind Braun, he ends up adjusting to become more of the disciplined hitter that Fielder has certainly become. i think if i had the choice, i'd take McGehee at bat after Braun takes a walk than Braun at bat with nobody on.
  4. is a brandy in there? i'd think that'd be required for a WI bar. probably need Crown Royal in there, only because it's a popular brand name. could dump the Maker's Mark in its place since you have Jameson. Segrem's? need something to make a 7 and 7. could replace the Jim Beam with it.
  5. heck, i think if we could get a guy like Sanchez from SF for Hart, we'd have an even stronger team for a playoff push than if we stood pat.
  6. i tend to agree, but it wanders into the open yard at night when we're often outside. i assume i'll end up startling it one of these days. it'd almost be funny if i landed a job interview a day or two after i got sprayed. but yeah, more than likely nothing will end up happening. i don't personally mind a skunk here or there apart from it digging holes in the yard.
  7. well, so far i'm 0-25 on even getting an interview out of state. it seems that's a large enough sample to say that there's some sort of problem, and the best answer might really be my distance from the job. i don't do it for every job, but select ones i've started listing an Austin address. i figure maybe if i land an interview, maybe i stay in Austin a week to look for some get-me-by jobs. it's a decent risk to spend the money to get down there and interview against 15 or so other people, but something has to change.
  8. think i missed this note before. did you land a job somewhere? I just moved from the Winston/Greensboro area and would be happy to offer up any advice on especially Winston-Salem. especially as a Wisconsinite who moved there, maybe my experiences would be the same as somebody else who arrives there.
  9. i've now spotted a skunk at my parents' house every day this week. lives in the woods, so i don't know where it's den is. it's not taking the poison, so added peanut butter to it, but that isn't working, either. have to pick up the poison in the early morning so that the birds don't eat it. no shooting allowed here, but maybe a pellet gun would help some. doubt it, though.
  10. why would a GM be so enamored with Wins? is that the best there is to say about him? maybe we could have given him Braden Looper last year, then.
  11. but Saunders is hitting his Arbitration years and will make something like $6M--if you're trying to free the books, then why get an arby guy back? would it have been that much harder to find a guy with a year or two less service time? seems like Arizona is really resting a lot of faith on a 19-year-old.
  12. So, if Axford gets traded......who closes? wow. gave me a chuckle that we're a decent ways into this thread and i think that's the first time somebody's asked that question. if Axford leaves, i'd love to give the chance to Braddock. i mean, if he can handle it, it'd sure be awesome to have a young closer who is cheap and under team control for a lot more years:)
  13. seems like it'd be hard to just pick a team and start rooting when you don't have a particular event/experience to make you keep cheering for them. i smell a good Christmas Break road trip with the kid to a few arenas. then the team he decides to like the best by default becomes your favourite team, too. or maybe Fantasy Hockey can decide it. you tend to end up with one player you really like, or two or three players from one team where you just end up rooting for that team.
  14. i think i'll change my folks' subscription to A La Carte. too bad i've never heard of wireless speakers, or else i'd just introduce them to Pandora.
  15. i think of it the other way, of the Brewers trying to trade a prospect for a rookie with only 37 innings behind him. i don't think you'd get many people who'd like giving up a Gamel or Odorizzi for that. the Brewers have been paying out $10M on even just a gamble that a closer will be decent (I see Gagne and Hoffmann's first year as gambles), so I doubt I'd shop Axford even in his arbitration years. contending teams need good closers and mid-market teams can't afford expensive ones. we have a win-win with Axford, so his value to the Brewers is far more than any other team would offer us in a trade for him.
  16. It is kind of sad to see him in such a helpless situation makes me wonder if that general 'sorta sad' attitude would be different if Suppan were a batter at the struggling end of his career. a hitter at the tail-end can be benched or platooned, but a pitcher ends up costing the whole team games.
  17. the Nationals always seem to ask too much for their stars they way they messed up with Soriano. if Fielder moves at all, i bet it will be in the last hour of the deadline. no reason for Melvin not to ask for the world and make other teams sweat. if nobody bites on Fielder now, then just move him in the offseason. plus maybe in the offseason, Melvin will have some room to add in cash to a Fielder trade. don't know why the White Sox would trade something for Dunn when Dye is at least 70% the player that Dunn is and wouldn't cost prospects.
  18. maybe the Brewers send Hart+Bush to the Giants for Bumgarner/Sanchez, and the Brewers send Bumgarner/Sanchez + Rivas to Arizona for Haren. so Hart+Bush+Rivas for Haren? maybe that's not quite enough. i like the idea, though. i could swallow losing some of our prospects if we can assume we'll be getting some back if/when Fielder is traded.
  19. am really surprised he didn't end up leading the Cubs to bigger things. read one article that question whether Ryne Sandberg could be the next manager.
  20. but isn't the huge algae growth due in part to all the nitrogen in the water from the sewage and fertilizer runoff?
  21. when i canceled my XM subscription they tried to give me a new reciever (mine didn't work well) and a free three-month subscription. in my opinion, when Sirius and XM merged, the quality of the music channels hugely declined. Channel 175 (baseball talk radio) was almost worth keeping the subscription, but their increased charges just doesn't make it worth it anymore. it got to be that 175 was the only channel i listened to, and that isn't worth $15 a month. for that, i'd be better off getting mlb.tv and watching the Brewers that way.
  22. maybe it was on MLBTradeRumors, but i'd read that only somewhat recently did Moore's velocity increase by 1-2 mph. if that's true, that could be why Melvin prefers him a little more. and if he were to actually be able to maintain that increase for a full season, his K rate could get even better and he could potentially zoom through the minors, despite not being a young guy in A ball.
  23. i like the idea of throwing in Gamel if it meant landing Bumgarner or Hellickson. then maybe we'd have a little more flexibility when it comes to trading Fielder that we could get a corner OF to replace Hart. i certainly wouldn't be averse to bringing back Overbay on a two-year deal to replace Fielder at 1b.
  24. i'd read a small bit about why the Brewers might possibly prefer Moore over Davis. one was service time, that Moore projects a little better, and because Moore would also end up being called up with the rest of Milwaukee's great crop of pitching prospects in two/three years. but i like Davis better even if he doesn't project as high because he'd be so much more polished in two years to command a higher spot in the rotation when the younger kids come up.
  25. even still, so what? he made a ton of money and he spent a ton of money. there's also a lot of teams like Milwaukee that can thank him for the luxury tax revenue. should he have increased his payroll to $300 million?
