  1. Cameron had essentially even home/away power numbers last year, so I don't see the move to MP affecting him too much. looking at his splits from last year, he hit 0 HRs with a runner on 1st and 9 HRs with RISP, so I would definitely expect a change in his approach if he hits in the 2 vs. 7 next year, moving Weeks to 2nd base vs. RBI opportunities.
  2. i see a per-at-bat HR dropoff from Cameron this year. wasn't he hitting deeper in the SD lineup last year? batting 2nd for us i see him far more focused on getting to first base than hitting for power.
  3. eh, i'd venture to guess butter is still way healthier then those flavour packs. you could always go with olive oil instead of butter, then a little parmesan. a good, healthy lunch for less than 20 cents.
  4. nothing tastier than fresh pea pods. and asparagus pretty much needs no maintenance. rhubarb is also an easy one to grow.
  5. i just jumped on this thread again to see if anybody had asked that yet. i've done it, but it was out of necessity (out of cooking fuel), but it's hard to see why anyone would do that voluntarily. come to think of it, it's hard to see why anyone would eat cooked Ramen voluntarily.
  6. the most perfect summary of Ramen noodles right there. or maybe if that extra $0.08 was just a bit too much, you buy the multi-pack and only pay a dime per. think of the savings!
  7. same as last year. Hooooooo!!!!!!
  8. I ate a ton of Ramen when I was hiking. the lightest hiker food you could buy, plus usually the only option if you needed to pack out a week's worth of food from a gas station. usually ate the shrimp flavour. jealous of the hikers who had dehydrated vegetables to add in there. for dessert: Nutella or peanut butter mixed with the noodles. unflavoured Ramen, broccoli and hot sauce. just so many options.
  9. "Hi concession-man, I'd like a High Life and a brat hot dog hamburger ... " i don't even have the vocabulary to start doing what Prince is doing. "Those poor vegetables are always over-looked, they need someone to speak for them." --well, sure. and just think of how viciously they're cut down in the prime of their lives by farmers. Another poster mentioned the Foxworthy quote, so I could very well be saving the lives of vegetables by eating animals.
  10. long as it's not the Ricky Williams version of hippie, i think it's pretty cool.
  11. Amen! the way it finished last year, it's really going to be neck and neck the entire way through the season. this is going to be a lot of fun.
  12. what i can't really figure out is what Barry wants at this point, what his motivation could really be to coming back another year. love of the game really doesn't strike me as a reason. money, either, for that matter. i've heard the Japan thing before and at first kind of laughed it off. i don't think he'd go there, but in a way it also makes sense. i mean, that's why he allegedly took juice in the first place, right, to be exalted as a legend? so if the Japanese fans do indeed think he's a god and cheer him in every park, that might be the end he wants most of all, because he's sure not going to get it from us. but PR nightmare or not, i think Bonds would still be great revenue. i think he'd pack the seats with people coming to the stadium just to boo.
  13. i've just always considered "Jerk" to be a more antiquated definition of the word, not associated with rudeness.
  14. you know it's the offseason when.... when I was hiking I'd always say I was going to go "drop a few pounds"
  15. it's almost 2:30 am and I should certainly be in bed, yet I don't quit want to go. yet i have absolutely no reason to be staying up. i spent a good portion of tonight squishing tiny snails in my fishtank with a spatula. so how bored am I? I'm busy enough to be resisting sleep, yet bored enough that I actually find it important enough to tell you all that I've been squishing snails. I actually dusted my place today. who dusts?
  16. it's hard to find good beer in North Carolina, so when I saw Leines at the grocery store I was pretty excited. Unfortunately all that's available is Summer Wheat, and i'm not a big fan. I've heard rumour that Honey Weiss is available somewhere, so i may have filled my entire day tomorrow going from grocery store to grocery store across the city.
  17. people have often commented to me "what? you actually like John Denver???" uh, yeah, John Denver is cool, to the point that I can't understand why nobody else seems to like John Denver. that girl who won the first American Idle show, i like her singing. Roy Orbison was an awesome songwriter. I like Bonnie Raitt.
  18. apparently it's 2 am ET, but i only thought it was 10:30. dang. so I met a girl on the internet today and admitted I smoked but wanted to quit. I hope she's not the type to go "ugh, I won't date a smoker, ever!!"
  19. wow, i actually had this discussion with a friend a month ago. kind of High Fidelity-esque. just going TV shows here: 1. The Jeffersons 2. WKRP in Cincinnati 3. Cheers 4. Perfect Strangers 5. All in the Family honorable mention: mr. Belvedere, Who's the Boss, Night Court
  20. maybe it's the definition of "talent" that needs to be addressed. no question Nickleback has the talent that record companies are looking for--radio-catchy music (variation on one song or not), lyrics that any 14-year-old can relate to and they're just completely harmless. so sure, they've got talent, but i think they suck because they haven't done a single thing that's musically unique and their lyrics are the poetic equivalent of an Andrew Dice Clay limerick. so clearly some people like their stuff right now, but in five years when they're doing the State Fair circuit, nobody's going to remember a single thing they did. they're totally forgettable. "Kim's the first girl I kissed/I was so nervous that I nearly missed." hilarious. stay tuned for their next album titled "I hope we can be friends", with the tracks "Alcohol is a drug, too" and "In bed by 10".
  21. aren't there certain rules about cutting a player or something like that once you've offered him arbitration, or am I just mistaken? though i think Vargas would be the obvious choice if one player had to simply be cut, it seems the obvious solution is for DM to trade somebody, and I think Villy or Bush would be more logical, just so that we can get a worthwhile prospect in return. The only think Vargas would net us is getting his salary off the books. if it was anyone I'd be shopping Dave Bush.
  22. a road-trip movie about baseball?? i can't think of two better things to want to watch. wasn't Noonan married to Bonnie Raitt for a brief period of time?
  23. much much thanks to everyone here for all the help. well, the three months i've been working out regularly, the protein and creatine has made a visible difference, so there's a good part of me that wants to stick with what's worked so far. The creatine has helped a lot with energy working out, and i'd kinda like to keep the bulk through the summer (all water or not), but i figure on cutting it out completely in the wintertime (though keep working for strength so it doesn't all turn into pudge). I will start giving my mucles more time off to recover now, though, as suggested, so I don't plateau. I don't think I'm allowing the muscles enough recovery time, anyway. A day/week of no creatine and all cardio-no weights is likely in order. I'm starting to think the best idea of all since i'm trying to balance out fat loss and muscle gain is not to rely on tape measuring but to just go out and get a bodyfat% calipers like And That suggests. Then from there adjust my routine to whether or not I'm over 10-12% bodyfat, to whether I amp up protein and heavier weights for bulk, or if I should focus on strength and cardio--hopefully with that I'll be able to maintain the proper balance of weightloss and muscle gain--still eat healthy, though, of course. Thanks again, this is great stuff.
  24. I've been lifting and doing cardio for three months now with the goal of flattening the stomach (smallish beer belly) and building upper-body bulk when there was none before. I know it's kind of contradictory to both lose fat and gain muscle, so i thought maybe you all might have some suggestions. I've been going to the gym every day (the need to maintain routine and not stop going). With each exercise I do 3x7 and 1x12 (:45-1:00 in total) and then :30 of cardio. I just started a 3-day cycle instead of a 2-day one (prevent muscle fatigue), with just one of those days on compound exercises like pullups and dips and such at high-rep, low weight. The other two days it's heavy weight to build muscle. Should I be concentrating on more compound exercises instead of isolated ones? Should I forget mass-building alltogether and concentrate on losing the gut first or vice-versa? I'm kind of at a loss if what I'm doing is going to be achieving optimum results or even if this isn't effective. Plus I don't have a lot of muscle bulk to begin with, so i don't want to get just outright skinny with no muscle just to lose the gut. For the past two months my weight has remained fairly steady. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Diet: good foods 80% of the time, taking creatine and 175 g of protein (was previously taking 120 g, but I weigh 200), and roughly 2,000 calories per day.
