  1. I used to work one weekend per month and could usually just go home to watch the football game. Now I'll be working 3-4 weekends per month and don't have the option of going home. I remember there was some sort of streaming package you could buy where you could watch the game after it's been completed with no spoilers on the page that would show the scores before you started the stream. But I can't remember what that was. Anybody happen to know?
  2. Normally wouldn't have, but he was trying to raise some money for a plane ticket to visit a dying father-in-law. It'd be sketchy with anyone else, I realize, but he wasn't lying.
  3. I don't actually want a cat. I can be negligent in cleaning the snake poop out of the tank (a small snake) as it is, so I've hit my maximum as far as animal care goes. Pest control guys probably wouldn't do anything that I wouldn't otherwise do myself, but they're better at it, more thorough, and my parents are arriving on Sunday. And 50% of my new house is still in boxes, so I've got enough to do in a short amount of time. Although now I'm about out of food with no time this week to get more because of my work schedule, because I threw out any food that had spent time on the kitchen counter un-supervised.
  4. Crap, my new place has a carpenter ant problem and now when I investigated the sound of a silverware dinging on a plate in the kitchen it would appear I also have a mouse problem. I thought roaches were the grossest things possible, but maybe its actually mice. Maybe because they're bigger. My house is in the woods and has been empty for four months, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. I feel like a pest control guy isn't going to be able to do much through putting down some spray, but I'll be finding out. Do I need to get a cat? Do cats work on mice?
  5. I pre-paid an acquaintance to help me move. I've paid him for the drive to my place and six hours' work at a decent wage. Except I've moved and he wasn't able to help me. The pay means I can ask him to do something difficult and not just vacuuming the floor ($25/hr). He's back from his trip and hasn't contacted me, which I find odd. But I'm at a bit of a loss on what to ask him to do. I've got three ideas so far: 1. Rent a tiller and have him till a small garden and put a deer fence around it. Though I don't have much of an interest in growing anything but peppers and tomatoes. 2. Get the fire bricks and mortar mix and he builds an outdoor grill for me. I'm thinking a long, thin, rectangular one. It would be a good shape to put kebabs on and get a square grill grate for normal stuff. 3. There's youtube videos out there on building a simple-enough wood-fired oven. I don't really bake bread, but I'd use it for pizzas now and again.
  6. And with the Packers going to 2 TE sets, how much need is there really for a third quality receiver? The Packers have built a system where there is a huge need to find star players in the draft and let them develop. But when you've got a receiving corps made of three established stars, there's really no room to fit in that breakout receiver. A breakout star stuck as a #4 doesn't really add a huge amount of value. If Davis were suddenly a star, he'd still probably only have the opportunity to catch 30 passes, and that doesn't really amount to more wins. It's like if TT saw the next "Oh my goodness I can't believe he fell that far he's going to be a superstar" WR in the draft, there's still no real reason to pick him up because that position is full. Teams don't go to Superbowls on highly-paid stars, but through really good players being paid nothing. Maybe the value in cutting Cobb isn't so much that he's not playing to his pay, but because it creates room in the WR position for that really good rookie to emerge and have a bigger role on the team.
  7. I don't want to say exactly since I'm in a law enforcement position, but I'm in the Southeast, moving from a flat park to a mountain park. There's some things I miss about my old job already. It sounds lazy because it is, but you were either 100 mph or 0, and the 0 meant long lunch breaks when it's slow, parking it at home if it was raining, or four-hour "lunch breaks" in the off-season. Not too much law enforcement here, which means everyone gets busy with projects year-round and is pretty hard-core about it. I no longer have the option of leaving late because I neglected to make coffee. There can be a lot of good to no real supervision or training, or anyone looking over your shoulder. But that does make professional growth a lot slower, which is ultimately why I moved.
  8. I did the Coors Brewery tour some years ago. When I got there they said they were booked up, and so they sent me through their short display/history museum and then right to the tasting room. That was the only part of the tour I really wanted to attend, anyway.
  9. I work in the law enforcement field and occasionally get to read anti-cop facebook posts from friends and family. I do still like facebook for the baby/young child pictures. It's a good way to look at the pictures when you want to instead of having someone shove them in your face in person. Otherwise I get the sense that most people still have an account only as a way of managing a contact list of friends and not so much to post on. Maybe it was when parents started getting hip to facebook that it started to become unpopular. I'm of the understanding that the thing now is to have two separate Instagram accounts. One to post positive things, notes about college and whatnot, and for when parents say "I insist on being able to see what you post on Instagram." And then another private account only for close friends to share stuff you wouldn't want made public.
  10. Kyrie wants to be the main man on his team. I get that, but he's not going to get that unless he heads to a bad team and they build around him. He'd only be the #2 in Milwaukee. As far as fit goes, a spot-up jumper like Middleton is the perfect fit already. Same for Brogdon who seems to be more about good opportunities and going 5/7 than being the highlight-maker every night. And really, why trade people who fit the team for someone who may fit the team? Fit seems to be more what Milwaukee needs, not as much lack of another superstar.
  11. There's a cog railway up Pike's Peak, so you don't have to drive. But if you do make frequent stops because your breaks will be overheating. A drive west on I-70 will run you into a lot of little touristy mountain towns. I tended to stop before I hit the tunnel only because the weather can get monstrous on the other side in an instant. I've done the rafting trip down Royal Gorge and it was fine. Your standard rafting trip, not much for rapids or anything but the cliffs are pretty if you don't mind the rafting guide making you do that stupid paddle-clap thing. The bridge is fun to walk across. Just west of Denver is a drag race strip which is cheap to go to and a really fun time. If you're thinking of heading to Boulder and its Pearl Street, your reaction is guaranteed to be "Oh, this reminds me of State Street in Madison." Not exactly in that "Oh, cool!" way but in the "Eh, I've seen this same thing before" way. Don't know why, but I absolutely loved walking around Golden. Can't beat a day in Rocky Mountain National Wildlife Refuge. Garden of the Gods is pretty nice.
  12. Dogs are a scourge. Dogs off leash is a constant in my park and it's a law we enforce very seriously. So many problems with them, but of course the owners don't know that--they only know that their dog is friendly, so it's ok for them to break the law. Worse is oftentimes the owners. If we're to get any sort of "I'm gonna call the real cops" response, it's guaranteed to be from a dog-off-leash owner. There's kind of a joke in the office where we all kinda hope that someone finally does call 911 to get the "real cops," in which case dispatch would call back directly to us as we're standing right in front of them. "See, real police!" Last week was the first time I chose to deploy my baton, for a dog that was slowly approaching me (no, I didn't have to hit the dog). Last month it was a dog off leash that ran into another guy's camper. Last year we had a small dog off-leash run and attack a big dog on-leash. It got tore up! Small-dog owner-lady calls us all mad because now her dog is half-dead. We kindly let her know that since it was her dog off the leash it was entirely her fault, and make sure the big dog had no problems because the lady would have had to pay for that, too.
  13. There is an article floating somewhere around the internet that takes a look at Lucroy's catching stance. The article notes that at one point Lucroy's stance was pretty much lower than anybody's, which helped both pitch framing and throwing people out. But looking at it this year he's standing a LOT taller behind the plate and therefore isn't near as effective as he used to be. Changed him from probably the best pitch framer in baseball to one of the worst.
  14. "My girlfriend and her hubby" Wait....what???
  15. Chick Fil-A brines their chicken with pickle juice.
  16. I got my transfer. Looks like I'll be moving. This is actually a demotion, but I believe having an additional supervisor will help me in the long run, at least professionally. This park is heavier on search and rescue than law enforcement, such as looking for lost hikers until 2am. More maintenance work, which I like, though more teaching classes, which I won't like. But a lot of hiking trails around me, which suits me. Currently the best trails are 45 minutes away. And I'm now 3 hours away from a good friend of mine, as opposed to 6 hours, which should hopefully mean a lot more visits. Pretty happy. I think this is a good move for me.
  17. Only mildly related, but I'm starting to do research on making sausages and curing meats at home. I think it would be a fun hobby. Building a curing chamber seems easy enough, though finding a cool place for long-term storage will be a challenge.
  18. The Jimmy Show Sexy Beast Dummy
  19. Well, if Giannis wasn't here we'd also be talking about how great Fulz looks in a Bucks uniform. We'd have had a lot higher draft picks. Vaughn is young, but you could expect to see flashes of talent now and again. Maybe he shows promise during practice. I kinda figure he's still here only because nobody else is banging on the door to take his spot on the roster.
  20. I've been debating a next investment in a couple good-quality knives and a couple good saucepans. A sharpening whetstone, too. I like to cook and I'm currently using $10 items. Half my pots and pans were garnered from a garbage can. Who throws away unused pots and pans? Although I don't have any real complaints with the stuff I have now. My knives cut and my pans heat up just fine. I was thinking a Wusthof 8.5" knife and one of those Japanese vegetable knives. Then one general saucepan. It's shorter than it should be, but I already have one cast-iron stew pot.
  21. .....and there's no real point in dumping Mirza/Delly/Henson along with draft picks unless there were somebody the team was targeting in free agency. And Rose sure shouldn't be it. I'm not much invested in late-round draft picks, but there's no point in trading away bad money to add on a bad contract. You just don't gain anything.
  22. If the Brewers can leave it at 3 runs that'd be awesome considering the way Nelson was pitching. It seemed like he was all over and on the verge of giving up a big inning.
  23. The Lakers pick would be nice to have in hindsight, but MCW was supposed to be that last needed piece for a developing team, plus we would have ended up waiting three years for that Lakers pick to come to fruition. And at the time there was a reasonable thought that the Lakers would have been signing a lot of big-time FAs turning the pick into a mid- to late-1st variety.
  24. I have to get a mousepad for my ticket booth at work. I could just do a plain one, but I was thinking of a custom one with a picture on it. I've been joking about getting one with my face on it, but it would just have knives sticking out of it by the time summer is over. It'd be nice if it could be something particularly ridiculous or annoying. Anyone have an idea?
