  1. I like him and Ben Paulsen from Clemson, prefer Davidson to both of them though
  2. nice call x...I wanted Mitchell or Davidson, so if he falls to us with our sandwich pick ill be thrilled with our first 2 picks
  3. I agree with Endaround, I think Buccholz helps the staff now but I think he helps less than the offensive hit from Hardy to Escobar. With that said I'm a huge Escobar guy and I'd do that trade because even if we take a slight hit overall this year I think the next 3 years were looking good with Yo and Clay and with Gamel and Escobar settled in.
  4. I'm talking about taking on salary this year too, you have to wonder how much higher we can go realistically on one pitcher while still feeling comfortable that we have a little breathing room to take on more later in case of emergency.
  5. Swap Dillard and Parra for a few starts?
  6. Not a team with Bengie Molina batting cleanup
  7. Gamel and Gerut would be my choice.
  8. It's not an assumption. Why do any players work their tails off in the off-season then? Every body is different and you are right, some guys in great shape get hurt and some injuries are fluke injuries. But, when you're paid that much money it is your responsibility to be in top condition to give yourself the best chance of avoiding those injuries, that's why guys work out, that's why pitchers run so much.
  9. Not sure if this was mentioned already here or elsewhere, but I heard TH say they are going to use McGehee to lead off when Counsell doesn't, so probably against lefties for now. I'm ok with this and would rather give him a shot before Hart. Maybe if he holds his own they can be used against righties some as I really can't see Counsell playing everyday against righties the rest of the year.
  10. Good stuff Bob, thanks for sharing. Any idea on if the teams are close or agreed in terms of compensation? If they want him they might as well throw an offer on the table and if the Pads accept it and get to talking with Axelrod and if they are firm on guaranteeing that option then we can stop wasting our time.
  11. If Prince is in I want Lars Buccholz, Lars Anderson, Delcarmen for Prince and Hardy We get Prince's replacement and two top end starters for giving up a year of Hardy and two of the big fella. They get a top SS that they can actually afford to re-sign and Ortiz's replacement that they can probably also afford to extend.
  12. It became RJ vs those 3 guys when we decided to keep RJ at the deadline instead of trading him for expirings to Portland or Cleveland.
  13. Would love for Corey to turn it around and prove me way off my rocker. Huge bomb tonight.
  14. I've thought about this. I guess they would have to feel Escobar is ready or feel comfortable sliding Hall over for the rest of the year and taking a hit at short. Would lower our chances this year but would be awfully nice having Buccholz to pair with Yo going forward.
  15. The whole team needs to be dismantled for youth and draft picks. What do you call those 3 guys? Looks like 3 young, talented guys at affordable numbers. Those 3 > Jefferson all day. Even if you think they are role players, at least they are young enough where they COULD improve. Sessions even COULD be a star, not saying he will be but at least you have that chance, you can't say that about Jefferson at this stage. Also, those smaller deals are easier to move down the road.
  16. Have to agree with fortheloveofweeks. I love Sheets and rooted for him, but he got paid a lot of money to pitch, I don't know exactly what it is that he did the for team above and beyond that? He also seemed to have a reputation of a guy that didn't work as hard in the off-season. If that's true, and that made him more injury prone then I can even justify booing him. I personally didn't and wouldn't boo him, but if the reason is for him not giving his all to being a better pitcher and being in better shape then I can see that.
  17. Contract wise, both years and figures(6.5 this year, 8.5 next), he's just about perfect. Any cheaper and they wouldn't consider trading him, any higher gives us more risk taking him on.
  18. I'd think a guy never going past 6 innings is one way to lead to an overused bullpen. I don't agree that it's safe to assume they can take on a heavier load and still be as effective. The more innings the pen has to soak up, the more the weaker guys have to be used.
  19. I heard the same thing TheCrew about them making Webb available when he comes back. But I think I agree with Nate, not sure why they would move him, his team option for next year is very fair at 8.5. If Webb comes back healthy and they dangle him(which I doubt) I'd love to know what it would take to get both of them.
  20. Same here, if the feel the best guy available is a high school hitter, I take him, regardless of position. With that said, it would be nice if the BPA is a college arm.
  21. I heard something on the radio the other day saying Arizona was going to make Webb available when he's healthy. His contract is very reasonable. Team option for 8.5 next year, I wonder what it would take to get him, assuming there's any validity to AZ dangling him.
  22. You'd rather have Joe Alexander over Brook Lopez? Or Bayless? Or Augustin? Or....anyone else from the first round? Alexander was a terrible pick.
  23. I don't care how you dissect it, if the end result is a guy getting on 30% of the time for an entire year(600+ ABs), then that's bad. I just don't get why its ok to erase a few weeks from last year and say look he was ok otherwise, but it's not ok to look at the last 150+ games because it's plucking the bad? Bill Hall 2006 = Corey Hart 2007
  24. I'd be all for him playing everyday.
