  1. Please don't feed the trolls. Let's just all agree. Most teams are looking at many, many players. 99% of these talks result in no deal being done. But every other GM is smart, Stearns in the other hand is stupid and cheap. Makes sense to me.
  2. Actually, that's precisely what someone was saying. As for your first paragraph, that's exactly why you don't trade prospects right now. You don't know which ones will pan out, so you need as many of them as possible. Holding on them promises nothing, but promises more than trading them this year for a 1% chance to win the WS. I have no problem trading prospects for a controllable player. (To me, controllable would be at least 4 years.) And I have no problem with a Gray type trade when the time is right, I just don't think that time is this year.
  3. That's a good way of putting it Greenleaf. I think at the same time it's a way of proving to him how badly he needs to command his other pitches to consistently get MLB hitters out. I mean you can harp on that in AA, but when you're blowing guys out, it's really hard to envision how different it will be in MLB. So yea, this is a great ay to expose him to MLB hitters so he can make the adjustments he needs to make. In the meantime, he can' help but....help the BP. Would be hard for him to do much worse than Scahilldrakemillonetorres. That guy is no bueno.
  4. They never were out of first place, but I'll take it
  5. So, to summarize, you want to give up a package that includes two top prospects (plus others) for Gray, then another 1-2 top prospects for a reliever and then you say the offense still needs to improve. Does that mean trading the rest of our top prospects for a couple bats? Great, now they still may/ may not be as good as the Dodgers, Cubs, or Nationals and the best prospect left in the system is Dillard. So, to be fair, completely agree with you on this. I don't believe Gray is a number 5 starter on a WS team. I mean, it's possible, but I think that's over-stated. You could definitely win a WS with Gray as your #3 starter, certainly as the #4.
  6. Nice plan until Gray is injured or just not very good when it comes time to flip him again.
  7. Yea, Garza is one. Knebel is another. If the package is close to the same as it was for Thornburg, I would make that trade yesterday. Others are Sogard, Hughes, Thames, Aguilar, Pina if the price is right. Villar and Broxton, of course, but that would be selling low.
  8. I think the phrase you're looking for is "Don't trade potential 5 tool stud OF with 6 years of control for a #3 starter controlled for 2 years/ 2 months."
  9. Well there is also Broxton. I imagine they don't want to just give up on him now. And while Cordell can be sent to the minors that doesn't really do anyone any good. I imagine we didn't select him as the PTBNL just so he could be minor league depth. No matter how you look at it the Brewers have a logjam in the outfield. Now is the time to do something about it before the prospects start to lose their value. It also helps that we are still in contention for a playoff spot. It's always a gamble. Is value for guys like Brinson, Phillips, Ray, Clark, etc. at their peak? We don't know. Chances are, for some yes, others no. That's why there's always a risk of holding onto a guy too long, but also a risk of trading away the guy that turns out to be the stud. That's why I would prefer to have both Phillips and Brinson up to see what we have. Just me, but I want to know. Broxton has had plenty of opportunity, so he can wait in the wings again in AA or be traded. He still has some value. Ditto for Cordell, I like him but the world won't end if he goes back to AA. Nothing wrong with having a little depth there if you run into a long term injury or someone just not performing. But back to my original point, no, I don't think Broxton and Cordell in AAA is a logjam.
  10. Why is there not room for Braun, Santana, Brinson, and Phillips? Plenty of ABs to go around, especially with Braun missing so many games. Plus PH every day, DH at times, etc. I don't buy the argument one has to be traded because there's no room. Cordell is fine staying in AAA, and Coulter would never stick for a year with anyone if he was a Rule 5 pick.
  11. I understand the point. But doesn't basing the decision on only the past few games seem a little shortsighted? We shouldnt trade for Gray and his two plus seasons of control because of offense has been uncharacteristicly bad these last three series? Oh, I agree with that. Seems a lot of people have gone from buy mode to sell mode after two bad series. So I agree, if anyone thought they should be buyers at the break, they should still feel that way. I have never thought they should be buyers, so my position hasn't changed. They are not as good as the top teams in any area (Starting pitching, bullpen, hitting) so getting Gray really won't help much. I would have no problem "going for it" if they were closer to the best teams. Instead, I rather have Anderson and Woodruff added to the rotation at some point in August when they're ready.
  12. He's not that young. It's not impossible he figures it out and lowers his K rate, but not very likely. One thing I've been wondering, has he had his vision tested? Who know, maybe he's in the same situation as Gatewood. Even if vision is tested, is he the type of guy that just doesn't want glasses or contacts? You would think they check for this every year, but I don't know that for a fact, or how in depth the exam is. Broxton does appear to be squinting at times. A long shot I know, just throwing it out there.
  13. Stearns is afraid to make a deal? The same guy who's made like 9,000 transactions already in his short time here? Just wow. By the way I don't believe Grays bat would have been good enough to prevent losing all these games.
  14. Be high on a guy, and call your shot, great. No problem with that. But putting him at #1 skews the list. Not a big deal really, I like different views.
  15. Human who wants some water, you really believe you were the first and only one to suggest Brinson should be brought up? There were about 1,312 people who wanted that long before you came trolling. Interesting, a friend of mine who's a Princeton grad and works for a Fortune 438 company told my uncle's friend that Ned Yost said Human that likes drinking water always pats himself on the back for nothing.
  16. Honest question. What does Auggie think a breckabawl is? Seems literally any pitch other than a 4 seam FB? Change, slider, curve, vutter...Ive heard him call of them breckabawl.
  17. I have complete faith in an anonymous source cited in something called fanrag.
  18. Have this feeling I'm paying so much attention to MLB trade deadline, the Bucks will slip one past that I don't hear about. Like I'll wake up one morning and find out they signed Vlade Divac to a 4 year/ $56MM contract or something.
  19. Wilson isn't a rental. He's under control through next season. Right, a rental.
  20. I don't think it's helpful to talk down to us, like we don't understand sometimes you have to "go for it" regardless of the long term plan. I think we all get that, some of us just don't agree it's worth going for it for this year. If Gray or any other SP put us over the top, or even similar to the Cubs, Dodgers, and Astros- absolutely, pull the trigger. But the Brewers aren't as good as those teams in any aspect of the roster- starting pitching, bullpen, or hitting. Gray isn't going to change that, just make rotation marginally better.
  21. Top prospect(s) for a rental BP arm, fabulous.
  22. FB/Slider is plenty if FB can be located and slider is nasty enough. Agreed it's tough, and not ideal, but plenty of quality SP use that combo. In my perfect world, every pitcher would have an effective change or curve to go along with the heat.
  23. I have a question. Will it be a challenge competing against the Cubs? Just not sure, since I haven't seen it discussed at all.
  24. This is so obvious, yet we all fall into the trap at times of not remembering this. Over two whole months of baseball to play. 5 game losing streaks happen all the time, this one is just more noticeable because the Cubs happened to have a winning streak at exactly the same time. Not to mention, we should have expected a run by the Cubs whether the pundits thought they were a lost cause or not. I guess I don't understand if anyone was optimistic about the Brewers before, not sure what a 5 game stretch has to do with anything. Especially since this stretch has had far more to do with lack of hitting than anything else, and we know this team can hit.
