  1. Long live the King!!
  2. If Bellinger provides a high OPS stick period they aren't going to spend $70mil on a mid 30s outfielder. Sure they want to hit LHP better, but I doubt they replace a good hitter for that reason alone. They will replace someone who is terrible overall to help that or not at all. The money, prospects, and all the risk involved with trading for Braun all for 120 ABs against LHP as your improvement? Seems like a poor investment if Bellinger can hit. It's not about 120 ABs vs LHP. It's about 10-20 ABs vs LHP during the playoffs. The Dodgers will almost certainly make it to the post-season with or without Braun. But adding Braun's bat to the line-up for the playoffs would have a significant impact on their chance to win a WS. Ditto for 2018, and then a chance he can contribute for the two years beyond that.
  3. Yea, it's a bit like saying the Brewers already have starting pitchers, why would they want Syndergaard !?! I doubt the Dodgers are sitting around saying "we couldn't possibly use a huge bat to kill LH pitching." Same question remains from 723 pages ago. Are the Dodgers willing to give up what it takes to get him. How badly do they want/need him?
  4. Kane County throwing no hitter vs Rattlers
  5. Just keep it up guys. Keep complaining and you'll get Coshun and Auggie tomorrow. Is that what you want?
  6. I wouldn't take "every day" too literally. But yea, if the big 3 OFs sit any more than once a week it will be too often.
  7. What's the rush? No, this team won't compete in 2018. Rotation will not be a good enough yet, unless you expect two rookies to be #1 and #2 starters on a championship level team. Santana actually had a good start, then went horrible the last week or two. It is still APRIL. I have no horse in this race. Doesn't matter to me who emerges as the best three OF, but no reason not to give Broxton and Santana more time. At least the All Star break, if not longer. Give up too soon and trade them, they become stars, and then we never hear the end of it. Personally, and I've said it before, I think Santana needs to move to 1B even if he does hit. Too many better defensive OF on the way. Especially if Braun is still around.
  8. If you have problems with Thames, I suggest you start working on Oluwademilade Oluwadamilola Orimoloye now. Give yourself a 3 year headstart.
  9. HAs anyone heard anything on Taylor Williams yet? I know some believe pitches per inning is an even bigger deal than overall pitches in a game. 45 in two innings is a ton for a guy just coming back from TJ. Hoping they were being careful, and he didn't have a set-back.
  10. Depends how much of the $3MM is signing bonus. Signing bonuses are guaranteed.
  11. Like it or not, it's part of the game now. Whenever a player comes out of nowhere with monster numbers it will come up. From fans, from media, and yes even other players and coaches. But if you're a player, better be ready for the consequences of throwing around hints without backing it up with any evidence.
  12. Darn, I wasn't aware one of the stands still had sausages/ hot dogs basting in SSS. If memory serves, I didn't even think County Stadium did that anymore the last few years.
  13. Wren isn't even on the 40 man. I agree with Jericho, every MLB team has a Reed or Wren, no need to trade for one.
  14. I also dismiss the common wisdom that you're somehow giving up on Broxton if/when Brinson comes up. Broxton can still get plenty of ABs as the 4th OF, or Santana could as well for that matter. Most players aren't automatically handed a full time job indefinitely to prove themselves. Broxton can still get 15-20 ABs a week starting 3 games and PH in the other 4. That's plenty ABs for him to prove he belongs. This won't be the last tough call to make in the OF. Cordell is on fire, Phillips has shown signs recently of breaking through, then you still have Ray and others behind them. When All Star break hits, that will be a year and a half of Broxton, how much longer does he need? I mean, he's not 22. But Greg makes an obvious, yet great point. This is all about getting these decisions right. Not about punishing player, rewarding one, or player 'X" deserves more time, or player "Y" deserves a shot. No, it's all about trying to determine who belongs.
  15. well that is due to picking at the end of the 1st round every season just about. I think Watt has been as consensus of a mock draft selection as there has been in recent years. Clinton-Dix probably the only consensus pick the past 10 years that they actually drafted. Watt, I wouldn't say he's a consensus pick. A few people have him in their mocks, but you see lots of other names too. Like you said, hard to have consensus pick at the bottom of the round. But Watt didn't play for a Pac 12 school, so he's probably out.
  16. But there is something to be said for the loyalty of fans to particular players. For example, I predict Thames very quickly will become an immense, Prince-like favorite, and I think it's right to consider that when factoring in whether to trade him or any guy. The fan's connection, young or old, should be respected. Not to the extent of really hurting the team, but if they start dealing favorites and guys that are super-important to the team while they're still in contention, that can and should be a problem. I would argue that that's the human factor beyond sheer numbers. I don't think there's anything to be said for fan loyalty. Fielder, Hart, Sabathia, Scooter, lots of fan favorites have moved on and attendance hasn't suffered. When Stearns is evaluating how to rebuild this team, I'm hoping 0% of his decisions are based on fan loyalty. Fans like winning, and will find new favorites.
  17. Since the Packers seem to love defensive players with no position, this pick sounds like a lock.
  18. Exactly! All these guys can be traded for the right offer.
  19. He's had enough development time. Also, he can still get at least 3 starts a week plus PHing the other games. Broxton has his chance right now, if he can't get it going by the break, it's time to give Brinson a chance anyhow.
  20. Bring Brinson up when he's ready, (almost) as simple as that. I mean, it means waiting a few weeks due to Super 2, that just makes sense. Beyond that, bring him up on or before the break this year if he's still hitting at this pace. I get the notion of "why bring him up if they're not competing." But he, and the other prospects, have to start sometime. It's not like you can declare "Ok, THIS year we're going to be good" and bring up Brinson, Hader, Woodruff, etc. These guys will likely have their ups and downs the first year or two, so may as well get that out of the way now. That's how I look at it. Also, may as well find out if any of these guys can't hang. When Brinson comes up, put him in CF. Broxton can be 4th OF and still get a ton of ABs in that role. I think you can speed up the rebuild a bit by not holding guys back when they're ready.
  21. See, that's .82 runs a game less.
  22. Then there never has been a rebuilding team in the history of MLB. Because no team has had a run differential of 810+ runs.[/quote I mean really? Read that line again, and see how terribly off you are. Guess were playing 300games in the season to arrive to your number. Wow, I was really off on my math. I used the full 162 games, instead of just the losses. But the Phillies had the worst run differential last year, at 1.1. So there's no way they were close to losing by 5 runs in their losses.
  23. Thought Maker was at least a year away from playing like this. I mean, just how good is he going to be in two years?
