  1. Great stab by JV, nice hit by Arcia, now a 2 out rbi. Those are like the top 3 IGT complaints this year!! Edit. Braun says this is what you're missing Dodgers!
  2. No, but Susac is back tonight, for those who care.
  3. Peralta is living off FB command, and probably a little higher velo (hard to tell with new way of capturing pitch speed.) That's great if he can keep that up, but I have my doubts. His slider doesn't usually break much, almost looks more like a "get me over curve." I've seen him get lucky a few times hanging that pitch, but speed was enough to fool batters. On another night, they're HRs. I have more confidence in Nelson. He added a change-up, but more importantly he actually threw it 9% of his pitches the first start. Doesn't sound like a lot, but that will really work for him. Very common for a pitcher to work on a new pitch in ST, but quickly abandon it once the season starts. So it was good to see that he looked comfortable throwing it. If he can command that pitch, my stock in Jimmy Nelson goes up 50%. Davies has been the victim of getting squeezed, and he's a guy that simply can't function with a small and/or inconsistent strike zone. So how good he is will all depend on the ump each start. Over-simplifying, but not much. Anderson, I missed both his starts- only heard parts on the radio so no real thoughts on him yet. So that's what I'll be watching. Peralta's slider and Nelson's change, because I think their future depends on commanding those pitches.
  4. He's missed one and playing DH in the AL is pretty common over his career. You also aren't going to match his production with just anyone. He's a special player and when he actually is gone, people will see that just like we did when Prince left town. Oh and if it's a buyers market, who cares? You don't just make a move to make one. It has to make sense on both sides. Stearns knows this. Ok, you're right. He didn't MISS two games, but one of those all he had was a PH appearance, and Brewers reported he didn't play because of back tightness that day. Nobody is disputing Braun is a special player. And no, you don't replace his production with just anyone. But with guys like Brinson, Phillips, Ray, etc. coming up odds are in favor someone will. Remember, we're not replacing Braun's production from the last 4 years, we're talking about the next four. And I don't think even you believes Braun will be hitting over .900 4 years from now, playing the majority of games.
  5. Really good starting pitcher (Prefer MLB/AAA level, but would accept any level at this point) and lottery ticket guy or two gets it done for me at this point. They have tried to get more, couldn't, and now it's definitely a buyer's market for Braun. If there are still serious talks with the Dodgers, don't get greedy. Those last two years are going to be rough. He has already missed two games this year with a tight back, played DH in another. Can you imagine 3-4 years from now? Let's get this done. Free up the salary, free up LF for a younger, faster, more athletic player who can also match Braun's offensive production over this 4 year period.
  6. Not to mention blunders on the base paths, which is not a small sample either. Happened all of last year, and no sign he has improved at all there.
  7. Toronto series, first game he was trying to go to RF, fouled off a lot of pitches. Last night, listened to radio off and on, and heard one AB where he drove the ball hard to RF. So there is hope. Obviously if he's hitting .100 in July, need to send him down. Not sure when that point is, but you know it when you see it. He's a very young, very confident guy. No proof of this at all, but it's possible suggestions have been made about his hands, stance, approach that he has dismissed. This baptism by fire may help get his attention, so he'll listen to advice. Disclaimer again, not saying he hasn't been open to advice.
  8. He has struggled, but at least fouled off a ton of pitches tonight. He doesn't look completely lost. Just needs a little more discipline, maybe tweak his hands or stance. But if there w a s ever a year to keep trotting him out there, this is it. I don't see any lack of confidence, at least not yet. Hardy, Escobar, Segues, and others went through it. Maybe he just needs to get a terrible first year out of the way, and we will see a big improvement in year 2. No reason not to just let him try to figure it out this year.
  9. My 5,000 post, so I wanted to use it as a thank you. I joined around 14 years ago, I think, during the last time we had a wave of prospects like this. I was hearing about guys like Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, etc. but found very little about them until I stumbled upon bf.net. Since then, I have learned so much about the draft, how options work, arbitration, etc. I was exposed to the wonderment that is WHOAA SOLVD. I have seen xxxPrinceFielder state his record at home games was 496-2, or whatever it was. But what makes this site really special is the time and effort Mass and all you other contributors put in every day with Daily Link Report and other resources on the Minor league board. Also, a thank you to the Mods for keeping the attitude in check. I don't visit any other sports related boards anymore, just too much bickering. Sure, we have our disagreements, but the great majority of times it is healthy debate without snide comments. And when that DOES happen, Mods shut it down very quickly. So, thanks again to all those who contribute to the site. It is a must read every day, and I know lots of others feel the same way. Salute!
  10. I don't see them moving any of Davies, Peralta, Anderson or Nelson out of the rotation unless one is just awful. Davies started like this last year too so I think it's just a matter of time when he'll settle it. That doesn't mean that Garza can't win a spot or force them to a 6 man rotation with a strong 5-6 starts, but it's going to take more than he's shown the last couple years. Mediocre won't cut it. When Garza comes back, it won't be a 6 man rotation. He will replace Millone.
  11. Ventura gave up ELEVEN runs in 2 innings. Want crazier? None earned due to SIX Shucker errors.
  12. Also, we're talking about 2-3 starts here right? I mean once Garza is back there's no room for Hader or anyone. Then Guerra comes back, and you're back to 6. Sure, Garza can be DFA'd at some point, but then you still have 5. I don't get the rush to bring these guys up. This is a process, and still need to know what we have in Peralta, Nelson, Davies, and Anderson. Either as pieces for the future or trade bait come July. That's my left brain. My right brain says I'm sick of some of these guys, and excited about the prospects. So just screw it and bring up Hader, Woodruff, and Lopez now. I think we're all going through that to some extent. My guess is that if Hader is really dealing, they'll bring him up at some point this season. For lots of reasons.
  13. Lost in the shuffle, looks like Wang has been moved to a reliever's role?
  14. Plus, he's not a MLB. He should be, but it's not going to happen. Even MM is delusional about it, I heard him say in a PC after the season that Matthews played a lot of MLB last year," he moves around all over the field." No, not really. They are paying him a ton of money, and nobody is willing to say "Clay, putting you close to full time at MLB is best for the team." Last time this defense was any good, that's where he played. As far as the Sherman thing goes, of course he's worth a 1st round pick- especially a low 1st round pick. He wouldn't solve all the problems, but having a lock-down corner on one side of the field makes it a whole lot easier to defend the other side. Not that a trade will ever happen, just saying.
  15. .661 last year, and wasn't young for low A ball. He has a shot, but doesn't dream prospect to me. ? Since when is 20 not young for MWL? He has has moments in Helena & last year were he has been fantastic. His number one issue has always been contact & lack of walks. Approach & long swing have been an issue. He has all the potential. He has been considered very boom or bust since drafted due to how raw he is. A lot of guys like him take little longer to develop. If this spring & start is really due to changes he's made to approach & swing & he can sustain walks and making contact.... he could bounce back as a prospect. He will be 21 all season in A+.... that's not bad at all prospect status. Agreed, it's not like he's old for his level last yr, or this year. He's about right at avg. My point being, it's not like he was 18 in low A ball, which would have been a legit reason for hitting .661. At 20, not real encouraging. Yea, he has tools, they all do. There were games I saw where he was the best player on the field that day. It's just usually the Aviles, Reed, Allemond, etc. types usually never quite make it. But none of these guys are locked to make it or not, that's what makes it fun and interesting.
  16. .661 last year, and wasn't young for low A ball. He has a shot, but doesn't dream prospect to me.
  17. Santana, Broxton, Collar, Perez all off to brutal starts
  18. Suter was sent down after the game last night, Goforth up. Why Goforth, no idea.
  19. That is funny, tragic, and true all at the same time.
  20. Yea, nice outing for Taylor Williams too in his first appearance since TJ.
